What our customers say about their holidays

This is both the best holiday accommodation and most dog friendly accommodation we have stayed in.
The property was beautifully appointed and had so many great dog friendly facilities. As owners of a large dog, we were delighted that the garden was properly secure (high fences) and spacious. There were also a selection of dog bowls, a hamper of dog towels and a hamper of dog blankets for the furniture, if you have a sofa dwelling dog. The kitchen was very well equipped, with excellent quality kitchen ware. A great bonus is the upstairs entertainment room, with a massive TV, XBox, DVDs,CDs, books and a computer desk with monitors. The beds were comfortable, the showers were large with good water pressure, the towels were soft and there were even slippers and robes. Having stayed out of season, we were glad it was nice and warm in the house. I can imagine, it would be lovely to sit out in the garden in the summer. It is also in a great location; Wigton, nearby has good facilities, Carlisle is only 20 minutes or so up the road, or head south for the Lakes, north for Hadrianâs Wall, or west for the coast.

The pictures do not do the lovely cottage justice.
Located in a beautiful tranquil location with lovely views of the Lake District countryside. Inside the cottage is clean, well maintained and quite luxurious. The bedroom is a real treat, large airy and a really nice bathroom too. The one downside of the stay was the sofa, itâs not the most comfortable and really could do with being replaced, but that didnât detract from an otherwise lovely stay and as we had amazing weather I preferred sitting outside on the little patio in the sun having breakfast, lunch and dinner or just a cup of tea! The outside space is lovely and our dog loved the paddock where she could run around freely and have a lovely time sniffing. There is also a nice walk to Cartmel where you can get some yummy sticky toffee pudding or easily find somewhere for lunch or dinner. Itâs a short drive to Windermere or grange over sands. In summary a perfect little place to stay.

Great, quirky little cottage, loved the layout and the modern fixtures and fittings with an olde worlde twist.
Nice and clean. Within quick walking distance to the centre of Ambleside. Don't forget to pop over the road to enjoy the private garden. You can bat watch at sunset. The cottage is right next to a busy main road which can be noisy if you have the door open but that didn't spoil our stay. Also, aside from a tiny cleaning pack that contained a miniature washing up liquid and pad, 2 binbags and a cleaning cloth, there are no cleaning products in the cottage so may be worth packing a few. I had already packed bleach and antibac wipes so was ok. There are no supplies of tea, coffee and sugar either which we normally find available at cottages stayed at in the past, but there's a co-op, Spar and Tesco local in Ambleside so we just sorted ourselves out from there. I would be happy to stay here again. The kitchen tap drips constantly so that needs fixing

The property was private and cozy even though it's on the site of a working family farm.
That was actually one of our favorite parts, it felt like we were part of the countryside/community for a couple days. And we loved saying hello to the dogs and alpacas/llamas. We visited on a chilly weekend, so definitely use the space heaters provided if you get cold easily. We only used the wood stove (on purpose) and though that heats the living area so well and was extremely cozy, it was a little chilly in the bedroom without the heater on. Again, we did that on purpose, but not all like that. Our hosts were lovely the couple times we saw them and they were super responsive to texts - for example when we needed more kindling or teabags. The surrounding countryside was gorgeous and the inn/restaurant just down the road (The Crossings Inn) was great and so close by. It's also in Hadrian's Wall country. We loved it.

After many years of happily staying in a Heart of the Lakes property this cottage was a very big disappointment.
We arrived after a 5 hour drive to find no hot water and a TV with no sound, we rang HOTL but ended up with a Sykes call centre. The girl seemed surprised that there was no welcome pack in fact there were no instructions for anything in the property. The problems were eventually solved by a maintenance man from HOTL. The property was on a main road and the next door property had rooms above our cottage so we often heard footsteps, doors banging and barking dogs. The kitchen crockery and cutlery was very poor in quantity especially for 4 guests, the lack of sink plug or washing up bowl did not help. The lounge had a strong underlying smell of dog and the dining table would have been very small for 4 adults. We certainly will not use this property again.
