  What a stunning cottage!

  Thanks to the owners for a lovely stay in sunny Waingate Cottage. The garden is secure for children and curious dogs (although the calves in the next door field did push through the gate and explored the garden on one day!) Cottage is beautifully presented and very comfortable. There were 3 adults snd 1 child to feed and we did struggle with the half hob (there is a range but we didn't want to run the whole thing and heat the house given the glorious weather we had). A bread knife would be a welcome addition too! Such minor minor things though and neither would prevent us from booking again. Cottage is rural but accessible for amenities although finding a large supermarket locally completely stumped us. Lovely days out on the steam railway and Lake Windermere steamers. Plenty to do although no local sand beaches (all within 30 mins were just mudflats). Thanks again and for the lovely welcome pack - much appreciated. Last thing of note Cottage is very child friendly - cot (although no bedding) and stair gates were provided and accommodate for. Travelled with toddler and perfectly safe. Thank you for that!

  A fabulous property in a beautiful location.

  I have to say this is one of the best cottages I have stayed in. Plenty of room, each bedroom has a stunning view. The kitchen is fantastic, the rayburn is easy to use, although there is another oven and hob. Large dining table for everyone to gather around and chat whilst preparing food. Lovely living room too, that gets nice and toasty when you light the fire. Beautiful secluded garden (can imagine it being wonderful in summer sitting out there). Plenty of lovely walks on your doorstep. Just walk around the corner on you are on the shore, haven for bird life. What made our stay extra special, were all the little touches. Bread (nice crusty one), milk, Red wine as a welcome. Washing up liquid, handwash, sanitizers etc. We felt instantly at home. Julie, popped by soon after we arrived just ot make sure we were Ok and to run us through a few things. She was always on hand if we needed her, but no need, we had everything. One last thing the WIFI was excellent. This property is well worth a visit. I shall be going back next year.

  We had a fantastic stay at Caton house and would definitely come back!

  Very comfortable and super clean all round. All the dishes you could possibly need, would have been handy to keep a cupboard or two empty for us to use for food. Couldn’t figure out how to get the radiator in the kitchen on so it was quite cold in that room but we didn’t spend too long in there so wasn’t the biggest inconvenience. We used on street parking nearby, we were weary of the nearby carpark (by the children’s play park) as a sign on entrance states it’s for short stay (1hr) only. All in all we were incredibly impressed with the house especially at the rate we played which was very reasonable. Location was ideal for us, but 15mins to Newby bridge, 30mins to Windermere. Took advantage of the nearby steam train at haverthwaite and the aquarium at lakeside and did the boat ride up to Ambleside on another day too. Timings during the winter period weren’t ideal and made our time at Ambleside very limited

  Omg ,we're do we start.

  ..we arrived 3 ladies of a certain age to the beautiful cottage... There was a lovely bunch of lillies plus wine bread and milk,how thoughtful.thank you so much...there was loads of room and every were was spotless... The garden is beautiful ,a peaceful safe haven...trees flowers ,and a washing line,there is outdoor furniture for those lazy sunny days...the whole house is catered for every need you need ,Julie is on hand to help you with anything you need and is so kind... We made friends with the cows in the field who were so friendly... Would I go again ? In a flash... It's perfect for escaping ,relaxing and us 3 ladies loved it...my review is also for my 3 friends as well as they feel the same about waingates...thank you for allowing us your beautiful cottage for the week to the Wilson family xx

  The house is not suitable for parties of more than 8.

  There is a dining room table for 6 people 1 of the chairs are as broken and caused injury to my daughter. 2 sofas and an armchair so seating for 7 there was only 8 plates and items of crockery. A playroom which looked great i the pics was so damp the children’s clothes smelled damp. A dolls house with no furniture or dolls dartboard with no darts air hockey table with no pucks. So it was not useable for the children. The house floors were dirty and the vacuum cleaner was so full we had to empty layers of dirt before using. There was dirt and crumbs and sticky behind toaster and hair balls on the floor when we arrived. There was also nothing to clean with. 2 bin bags and 7 dishwasher tablets left if there are only 8 plates and 10 people in the house you need to do lots of dishwashing.
