What our customers say about their holidays
Darren - Verified booking
Property was lovely and accommodated our large group really well.
Each room was spacious and we enjoyed the multiple large spaces both downstairs and in the dining area. Bedrooms were a good size and meant we could accommodate family groups in specific rooms, the annex or top floor which was also helpful. The hot tub had been prepared on arrival too, and whilst the weather wasnât great, the hot tub was as nice to relax inâ¦. Would have been better with some external lighting, and maybe a covered area for when it was raining? The annex was also a really good space for a family with small kids to retire to, when the rest anted to stop up later⦠Top floor rooms were a little cold compared to rest of house (top floor electric heaters on timers versus central heating elsewhere). Also, the range cooker was ok and double oven really helpful, but the electric hob took a while to heat up and so cooking a stir fry or large breakfasts / dinners for 16-18 was a challengeâ¦. Lots of storage space for food, a good sized freezer complemented the two fridges and lots of plates and cutlery, exactly what was needed for a big family gathering, and hokey the dishwasher was also out to good useâ¦.. Outside the front access to walk the fields was overgrown, which limited our dog walking to the narrow road behind the house, which was slightly frustrating as we had two active / young dogs with usâ¦.. being able to access the field in front of the house for a country walk would have been good (despite the wet weather)â¦. Overall a very good stay, with a few minor improvements

The Happy Union Stables is a great place to stay, tastefully decorated and comfortable.
Karen and John are lovely and the cake on our arrival was a welcome touch as we had a very long journey. The pub is welcoming, as are the locals - we bumped into a couple of them in Aberystwyth by chance and they stopped to say hello! Everything for our immediate needs was provided (milk, tea, coffee etc). It is a great base to use to visit other places and Karen and John were mines of useful information with recommendations for places to go. We would certainly recommend the waterfalls at Devil's Bridge (not for the faint-hearted), as well as the steam railway (stunning scenery), the Elan Valley Dams and Reservoirs (magnificent scenery) and, if you want to travel that far, Caernarfon Castle (fantastic and fascinating history) and its surrounding quaint streets are well worth a visit! We were unlucky enough to have bad weather for most of our trip, but it certainly did not spoil our holiday - far from it, it made us think outside the box for places to visit. We would certainly recommend it to others and if we go back to Wales, would certainly visit again.

We arrived together with a mix of ages from 8 to seventies to celebrate the New Year.
The facility to celebrate was great as the dinning area and lounge area was very accommodating for us all to be together. The showers were not very good in some of the rooms, even when we weren't trying to use them at same time. Maybe some hooks or shelves in the bathroom would be a good addition as they were lacking a few basics for towels and toiletries certainly in the room near dinning room. some of the decoration needs attention and including new curtain in our room as one was hanging down and needed new hooks. Kitchen was great to cook and enough of fridge and freezer room. Hot tub was really good some written info on how to use it would be good though, unless I missed that in the book. The views are amazing with lots of wildlife to see. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and above comments made wouldn't deter us from recommending this home to others to stay.

We enjoyed our stay at hillside, in fact this property has bags of room, the beds were comfortable and in general the house was clean.
We were disappointed with some of the outdoor areas and feel there is room for improvement. Some of the paving is loose or have big gaps, not ideal for children or the elderly. The patio furniture is in a shocking state, some of the chairs are broken causing one of our guests to fall to the ground when she sat on it. To look at it the chairs look OK but the really are in poor condition. All the gutters were overflowing when it rained and some of the down pipes are not even coupled together. Sad really we felt it just needs a bit of TLC on the maintenance side and new patio furniture to make the say a more enjoyable experience.

Beautiful barn conversion in a lovely little village in Powys.
The property was exceptionally clean and extremely well equipped, warm and comfortable. Much appreciated bara brith, tea, coffee sugar and milk on arrival. We were aware of slight remoteness so took enough provisions for a couple of days and there is a good sized Tesco and Aldi in Llandrindod Wells. Elan valley was lovely but trails are steep and narrow not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. We really enjoyed the red kite feeding at Gigrin farm (website still advising pre booking). All in all a perfect peaceful getaway. Thank you so much Karen and John for your hospitality.
