What our customers say about their holidays

Location Likes.
Amazing location away from main roads which was extremely quiet. Just 50 minutes drive to Scarborough snd very close to York. Lovely kitchen to a very high standard with well equipped utensils (lacking a pizza cutter was the only missing item) Bed is very comfortable and bigger than a super king size. Bathroom has a large walk-in shower with swirlflush toilet. The views are stunning looking out over a beautiful countryside with the enclosed garden being a god send for our Beagle who like to 'explore' so keeping him safe. The following are dislikes. Sofas are very small and uncomfortable spoiling the comfort when relaxing. Needs a corner sofa where you can relax properly. There is a driveway to the owners storage yard which is a few feet away from the window, wrecking privacy when vans drive past or delivery vehicles looking in (careful if sitting in your pants lol as you'll be seen). Hot tub in garden is over looked by owners property which really didn't make us feel comfortable using it. Kitchen has a great extraction for the hob with a metal outlet pipe going outside, sadly the outlet to this has a nonreturn flap which keeps flapping down on reverse wind causing a loud tapping like someone's tapping the windows which can disturb the dog or you if your a light sleeper like me. This was really annoying. The fridge freezer has a faulty solenoid which keeps making a loud click when the thermostat cycles on and off which again causes sleep issues. The fencing and or gate is loose in its housing and thus when there's a slight wind, there is a rattle back and forwards causing the iron mongery to rattle. There was a lovely welcoming hamper which was amazing, the wife got me to by a caffetier because the coffee was that nice. Overall, the property is new and has teething problems. No expense has been spared making this an amazing property. If the things above were to be fixed, I'd definitely return but as it stands I wouldn't return. We didn't meet the hosts, which is what I prefer being a person who like to go on holiday and just enjoy time away quietly. Some hosts can be quite intrusive, but these weren't. Thank you.

This cottage is absolutely beautiful, the pictures donât show this place off to its full potential.
We were absolutely delighted when we opened the front door & saw what was going to be our home for the week. ( owners left the most amazing welcome hamper too best we have ever had too so Thankyou to the owners for that.) Now for us personally there are 3 âmust havesâ that we need & look for when choosing a property to visit. First : log burner :- lavender cottage has a fantastic log burner, the owners even left some firewood to get us going which meant we could enjoy the fire immediately âï¸ Second : A secure garden ( as we have 2 little dogs ) the garden was bigger than I expected, it was 100% secure & is so even for the tiniest of dogs , there is no escaping from this garden at all.âï¸ Now last but not least on our must haves is WIFI. Yes I know most people try to switch off when they go away, but for us wifi is important as we have a fire stick & use this for watching films & tv. We also both have our own businesses so switching off completely is a no no. sometimes we have to work a little bit too & with remote locations wifi is needed. âï¸ Ok so our visit to Lavender Cottage was incredible & exactly what we wanted from our stay. Beds very comfy âï¸ Bath âï¸ Shower âï¸ Log burner âï¸ Secure garden âï¸ Wifi âï¸ Towels & bedlinen provided âï¸ Welcome hamper âï¸ & so much more. âï¸ Lavender Cottage is in a great location , we had some amazing dog walks & saw so many fabulous places. Although set in a remote location, the shops are only a ten min drive away where you can get absolutely everything you may need. Specific Feedback now for the Garden for dog owners:- where do we start here, well our two dogs Poppy & Daisy absolutely loved the garden, they spent many many hours morning noon & night running around the flower beds , in & out of the small trees, chasing each other like 2 super excited puppy dogs. We got lots of pics & videos of them playing it will be something I cherish forever.

This booking was one of those serendipitous finds where it turns out to be SO much better than you even expected!
And one you fear advertising it as such in case you cannot get booked in to return! Yes, it was THAT good. The location of the cottage is of the very highest order- right in the country but near enough to towns with full facilities. If peace, silence and tranquility are your bag then this is the place for you. To sit in that huge garden with literally only the noise of the birds and buzzing bees was such an escape from our suburban normailty. When you arrive each time after a visit out and open the car door to be greeted by that quiet and sense of sheer peace really drew a sigh of relief and contentment. In all my cottage visits I have never experienced one as peaceful as this..its like the real world is miles and miles away. So much so that we never even had the tv on, a radio on, or listened to the news! Why spoil this haven of calm? To cap it all, the weather was beautiful the whole week and our outside visits so enjoyable. In truth both of us were more than happy when we got back to the cottage though lol. The owner Nicki is SO nice to talk to...just so very considerate and concerned only for your enjoyment. But the cottage itself I cannot speak highly enough of- you just have to go to see what I mean, photos never do places like this any justice. So yes, I fully recommend it , and yes, we will surely be back. This should be the very template of excellence that a country cottage could aspire to. Thank you Nicky and Gary for an absolutely tremendous holiday- and to you Sykes for having this one on your list

The property is in such a peaceful location.
Set off a quiet country road with its own gated entrance with private parking right outside the property. The garden is huge, great for dogs to explore. The property is all on the ground floor and is immaculately clean and furnished to a high standard. The living room is a good size with a lovely log burner. Wifi worked well during our stay as we brought our firestick to stream Netflix. The living room has a lovely patio door with views of the beautiful garden. The bathroom was gorgeous with a powerful shower and stylish bath. The main bedroom was on the small side but had adequate storage. The second bedroom was a decent size though. Its all open plan ie. the kitchen/dining room and living room. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, the owners live next door and were so friendly and helpful but left you to your privacy. If you had any issues or requests they were quick to respond and were very accomodating. They were really welcoming and provided a beautiful hamper on arrival. I would not hesitate to stay at this beautiful cottage again and would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful break away in the Yorkshire Countryside. A car is essential here really as there didn't appear to be a supermarket in walking distance. The nearest being a short drive. Thank you for your hospitality Nicky, both you and your husband were excellent hosts and we had a memorable holiday at your beautiful cottage.

We had a lovely stay at Lavender Cottage.
The property felt so welcoming as soon as we walked in, such a luxury finish, warm and spotlessly clean, with a much appreciated welcome pack of wine, teabags and cake ! The bathroom is so lovely and relaxing we thoroughly enjoyed our bath and shower time after a day out walking. Kitchen area is fully equipped, spot on with a washing machine and dishwasher also if needed. TV with lots of channels and a cupboard full of dvd,s to choose from. Lighting the wood burner added a lovely touch for a cosy evening. The garden is huge , my goodness it goes on forever our dogs loved it so much. So many snowdrops, and spring flowers popping up everywhere, so beautiful. The variety of birds visiting the garden feed station constantly was a pleasure to see. The cottage is located in a very peaceful area , set back on a through road but we hardly noticed the odd vehicle passing. During our few days stay, we had a long walk along the The Hudson Way disused rail way track which runs along the back of the cottage. We also spent time in Market Weighton, Hornsea and the Humber Bridge Country park. Such a pleasure to stay here , Nicky has obviously put a great deal of thought and effort into providing the most amazing place for a holiday home. Thanks
