What our customers say about their holidays

Rayside looked appealing in photograph and we were not disappointed once inside.
It had a really welcoming homely feel and and it was easy to relax from the outset. The little welcoming touches were very much appreciated including a surprise Easter egg, litre of milk, and tea / coffee tray. I was delighted to find the kitchen so well stocked with cleaning products, accessories and so on, and was able to cook our Easter Sunday dinner easily. The decor upstairs was also welcoming and homely. We all slept really well, as the location is so peaceful and the beds very comfortable. The bedlinen and towels were clean, soft and of high quality and the bathroom was ideal for us all (good shower and lovely warm floor!) The back yard was a great space to allow our dog to roam and keep her feeding / water bowls and we made good use of the freezer. The instruction guide you left was extremely helpful and we literally did not need for anything further during our stay. The location of the cottage is really well sited for accessing so many areas of the lakes easily. We spent our days walking around Grasmere then Ullswater and were blessed with fantastic weather throughout. In summary, we couldnât have asked for a nicer break.

Lovely cottage and lovely hosts.
Very compact living area with large bedrooms, each with own en-suite. Dining table and chairs are available and folded. It is possible to make space for them by moving furniture but most adult groups probably wont bother. Kitchen is tiny but very well thought out. we found it easy to prepare food in kitchen, but having a crate to store bulk food elsewhere turned out to be useful. We brought our little dog who felt welcome there and got on well with the hosts' dog. There was lots of space for her for constitutional walks although no enclosed garden. The area is absolutely lovely for walking and cycling: much quieter than the central Lakes. There is a pleasant pub in the village which serves food as well as a selection of real ales. We did not go in during our week as the vegetarian options were not terribly appealing and we were off drinking following Covid. There is also a great little cafe that serves nice lunches and proper teapot tea. Overall, a nice cosy place to stay with very friendly and helpful hosts. Overall, would highly recommend

A lovely cottage in a quiet location.
The villagers were very friendly and helpful. The cottage was very well equipped and the kitchen had everything that could be needed. The supply of tea, coffee and sachets of milk were appreciated as the Post Office/store closes at 2.00pm. Groceries can be ordered for collection the next day. The owner took the trouble to contact me to make sure that I knew where to find the electric fan as the weather was so hot. We travelled by train so it was important to us that the buses stopped near by. The buses run hourly but because the route is from Penrith to Workington, they are sometimes delayed. Dogs are allowed in the area outside the pub but not inside. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the hotel did allow us to take the dog inside, for which we were grateful as the heavens opened while we were enjoying our meal. Overall, the cottage had a homely feel and had everything that we needed for an enjoyable holiday.

Just back from a lovely peaceful week at Swallows Nest with our 2 dogs.
I can't think of anywhere better to be at this time, surrounded by nature, animals, fields and beautiful little villages. An easy drive to the Lake District, and a nice walk into the local village which has a good shop, 2 pubs and a lovely river walk. For us having 2 dogs the totally enclosed garden was a huge benefit as we could open the patio doors and not have to worry about them escaping! (one is a husky.....say no more). Just up a path on the farm grounds, through the lovely serene pet cemetery we had access to several large fenced in paddocks for the dogs to play in the morning and evening. We were out all day exploring so it was good to have somewhere close for them before we went and when we got back. The cottage itself is a charm, lovely open space downstairs with everything we needed and 2 good bedrooms and large bathroom upstairs. I would recommend this cottage to anybody wanting to get away from it all.

We have just come back from a long weekend break at the swallows nest.
The first thing that stuck us as we walk into the cottage was the damp smell. It wasnât the cows that live next door but a damp, mould type smell. We dreaded it every time we walked back into the cottage. There at 2 small leather sofas to watch the tv on at the end of a tiring day. They are very uncomfortable. Iâve seen other people write this and laugh but itâs so true. The pillows are awfulâ¦take your own!! Hereâs the best partâ¦the hot tubâ¦donât waste your money. You have to light the fires hours before to keep the water hot, then keep stirring the tub with a huge paddle to keep the warmth moving about, then place 2 heavy covers over it until itâs time to stir it again. Itâs not a hot tubâ¦itâs a couldron!!! Other than that..thereâs 2 great pubs and some lovely walks nearby!!!
