What our customers say about their holidays
Andrew - Verified booking
We stayed here for a week over the May half term and had a truly memorable holiday, blessed by the weather and with the best view anywhere on the British coast from our balcony - the castle even lit up at night to celebrate the birth of a new St Aubyn.
The beach is right by the house and perfect for kids, the sea being sheltered by the Mount, lots of clean sand for digging and rock pools to explore, full of fascinating wildlife - we even found a sea hare! The Mount itself is well worth a visit, both castle and gardens, which aren't visible from the house but are spectacular. You could easily spend a week just enjoying the seaside, but there's plenty to do within a few miles of Marazion - we also visited the seawater lido in Penzance, Land's End and the Eden Project, and took a wildlife spotting boat trip, and still managed plenty of time at the beach. Shame that the council have barred off what would have been the perfect backdoor route to the beach while repairing the quay - although we did crawl under it a couple of times! - but the next entrance is only around the corner, by the Godolphin Hotel. It's a beautiful house with character, incredibly spacious, spotlessly clean, comfortable beds, thoughtfully provided with everything you could possibly need - even a pair of binoculars by the balcony, which was great as we'd forgotten ours, lots of books, and some buckets and spades and a set of boules down in the entrance cubbyholes. We hardly used the living room and just stayed out on the balcony. The view from the middle floor bedroom is also fantastic, not that our computer obsessed teenager took much notice! Great fun to watch people attempting to cross the causeway before it was fully uncovered, boats, seabirds and dogs on the beach (which is dog friendly all months except Jul-Aug, but locals are scrupulous about picking up). The shops next door sell delicious pasties and boxed cream teas (we took one up to the Mount and had a picnic), ice cream and fudge and the gift shop under the house (run by Tamzin and Matt) has a lovely range of souvenirs by local artists. We managed to eat locally almost every night, including a chippy tea, but be warned the queues at the chip shop are tremendous, and you must book in advance at the Cutty Sark restaurant. Marazion is very small (and charming) but gets a high number of tourists because of the Mount. Closing times are also earlier than visitors from big cities might expect! However, the food everywhere was tasty and local with friendly service. If you do want to self-cater, the kitchen is fully applianced, and all the supermarkets are minutes away by car, this side of Penzance. Parking is a slight issue but the long-stay parking has plenty of room and is only 5 minutes' walk away, right by the beach. It costs £50 for a week. There are a couple of spaces in front of the shop for unloading, with a half hour max stay so we managed to nip in there when needed. In all, a perfect holiday, and we would definitely come back here or recommend it to others.

We enjoyed our stay, however some things to note - the garden is not secure with a low wall and no grass for fussy dogs, the two downstairs bedrooms smell damp, the only shower is in the en suite of a downstairs bedroom, the nice mezzanine bedroom is on the top floor and the toilets are both on the lower ground floor, two flights of stairs down, so not ideal for middle of the night toilet trips, no hairdryer, there are no curtains on some windows eg kitchen next to where neighbours park their car, so get dressed before breakfast! Biggest annoyance of all is that the car space is 5-10 min walk up the road and back on yourself down the hill again - it’s behind the property but you’re not allowed to walk down the path to the parking space as it goes through the neighbours garden - presumably the owners can go through as an access route but not guests. You also cannot use the back gate. Only the front door in and out (and back door to paved garden). Plenty of positives though - location is perfect, view is stunning, lots of birds in the garden which are a joy, free netflix was fab and coffee machine with pods supplied was very welcome, well equipped kitchen (apart from no weighing scales). I think they must have used to supply welcome baskets because some of the early guest book entries said thanks for the welcome gifts, however we got absolutely nothing other than a couple of toilet rolls and hand soap in the bathrooms and kitchen, which was fine for us. Interestingly on leaving we saw the cleaners bringing in a bunch of flowers, so maybe we didn’t get anything as we were a late-ish booking with a discount.

What a delightful holiday cottage, clean and comfortable with all mod cons and smoke/heat alarms/carbon monoxide sensors provided.
All you need for holiday convenience is there â wi-fi, usb charging sockets, heating, hot water, wonderful showers and a deep bath with a sea view, a dishwasher (so you donât have to, you are on holiday!), washing machine, and iron and ironing board (not for me on holiday!). After a busy day out, you can relax on the balcony watching the sun go down over the Gem in Cornwallâs crown, St Michaelâs Mount, perhaps chill out by the log burner listening to the Bluetooth speaker, or listening for the town clock chiming the hours, or maybe watch a film on the TV. And when the wine runs out, the shop is just next door! We cooked some delicious meals in the well utensiled kitchen but if thatâs too much effort you can stroll outside to the Kings Arms in 10 seconds or the Godolphin Hotel in 30 seconds and delicious fish and chips are only one minutesâ walk away if you want to eat out. Star House is both kid and dog friendly with large bright rooms, comfortable large beds and for the children, fantastic bunk beds â and if itâs raining outside, the house is ideal for a superb game of hide and seek. The extremely friendly owners, Matt and Tamsin are always available to help if necessary and we appreciated the welcoming bottle of wine and bunch of daffodils that welcomed us when we arrived. Thank you both for creating this high quality new holiday accommodation for us to enjoy and make some happy family memories in. The entire process of booking with Sykes was simple and efficient and we would definitely do so again.

Wow what can I say, I didn't want to do a good review as I am worried that when I come to book again I won't be able to get it!
Prior to arrival we were called by the owner telling us we could get in early which was good as the traffic was light so were arrived in the area sooner than expected. The owners were super friendly and offered to help where they could if we needed it. We picked this place due to the vicinity of the beach and the views and we were not disappointed. We took our dog and due to staying off season he was allowed on the beach. This is something to remember as there are restrictions in the summer time for dogs on the beach. The shop below was lovely and if you book this cottage you get a 10% discount, I can tell you we made the most of that! It is situated in the middle of the village and very close to amenities, I can recommend the Godolphin for food, we ate there Sunday afternoon and the roast was immense. This was a lovely property beautifully decorated and plenty of room we could have stayed there weeks. The bathroom's were lovely and clean my daughter enjoyed the bath and the showers were spacious. We used the woodburner most evenings to add atmosphere and it kicked out plenty of heat, it was easy to use and set up. The kitchen had all you could need to cook up a storm which we did most of the time we were there. I cannot fault this place it was fab and we will stay again! Thank you

This was our fourth visit back to Star House and as always we received a warm greeting from the owners, Tamsin and Matt.
Fresh flowers and a lovely bottle of wine also are a lovely touch! The house has everything you need for your holiday. We travelled with another couple this time but have had grandchildren with us in the past so it lends itself to all options. My husband and I always have the top room and as early risers there is nothing better than coffee on the balcony overlooking the amazing view of the Mount ( or a glass of wine in the evening of course!) Just about the best view in Marazion! Itâs a great base to explore the surrounding areas. Car parking is a short walk away but there is often a space outside the downstairs shop which is handy for unloading/ loading the car with a 30min parking time. Marazion itself is delightful! There are lots of little shops to browse and everyone is so friendly! Do go to the quiz night opposite on a Tuesday night at the Kings Arms, We had so much fun with the locals! Star House is definitely a winner every time and cannot recommend enough! and despite the intermittent rainy weather, when you
