What our customers say about their holidays

The Spinneys is a large, comfortable space for 4 adults.
Itâs well located for easy access to town and has good recycling facilities (which seems to be rare with Lakelovers properties). The kitchen has a good level of utensils. It really does need updating though⦠I slept terribly on an awful 50-60mm layer of foam mattress protection, with an awful plastic topper. I removed it in the end, to sleep on the actual mattress. The bathrooms all need updating - thereâs only one decent shower, the other two are electric, which donât work if they are in use at the same time. The kitchen only has a small under-counter fridge⦠too small for food and booze, and the same size freezer that we didnât used. The kitchen is covered in little âwarningâ labels from the owner that are really irritating⦠one little box has 3 labels on it saying âdo not turn offâ⦠the washing machine must have 10+ labels on it!! Requesting âquick washes onlyâ⦠itâs not welcoming. Two good quality ovens are great, and the electric hob is fine. Kitchen would benefit from a few trays, for TV dinners and some new chopping boards. A new kitchen is really needed, as well as the bathrooms - so some serious cashes needs to be dropped for 4/5 stars. Thereâs no outside space thatâs really useable, just a front and back balcony area thatâs in the shade all day - and the steps up to the property are very slippy in the wet on account of mould growth. We donât regret staying at the Spinneys, we had a pleasant stay but probably wonât stay again - there are just far superior options.

Well appointed n configuration of property for our group of 4oaps , a young couple n 3 year old.
Kitchen has everything you may need to prepare meals but we ate out 4 times in the evening. The mattress in the en-suite room could be more comfy if was replaced with a firmer n non roll off type? A non slip mat for the bath tub could be helpful as a rail bar to assist oap in n out of the bath safely?? The carbon monoxide alarm broke one night at 1am but duly replaced next day. Extractor fan in en-suite did not work but reported. Icing on the cake would be if you could divide a welcome pack of T n a carton of milk for us to use on arrival after a long journey? Some of us travelled from Berkshire. We could not get the fire in the front room to work one night when we felt chilly.. we had exceptional sunny n warm weather in the whole week if stay. In September or more inclement weather we would need the fire?? But we loved our stay n hope to return. Btw., some of the natives who live in the big house called Beech retreat were very rude n threatened to clamp our second car â¦we parked it in the space which appeared as roadside but they claimed as their private?? He followed me to theSpinney to harangue me!! It was difficult to arrive at the Spinney in one car when there was 7 of us??

I recently spent the weekend at the cottage with 6 close friends and my husband to celebrate his 60th birthday.
We were all very excited and the cottage was al we expected. However after being told on a couple of occasions that we could not access the property till 3pm imagine our reaction to arriving there at exactly that time and the cleaners still in and working! We had been told earlier approximately 1pm that they had not arrived. This caused us alarm as I know how long it takes to do a deep clean having managed a cleaning company many years ago. We accessed the property as per the contract at 3pm and it was chaos. We couldnât access common areas as they were will being cleaned. The lady cleaning the kitchen said this was normal as they were always busy at the weekends. I did confirm to her this was not my business and she had a duty to have the property ready. They did not exit the building till 4pm and this caused a problem with our guests. This is not acceptable. The cottage itself was perfect and we had a lovely weekend. The beds were so comfortable and all amenities provided for a luxurious stay. The earlier problem is being addressed with the managing company Sykes.

Just spent a brilliant week at Shepherds Crook.
The cottage is beautifully decorated, airy and light and we loved the little touches like the nightlights and the games cupboard. Having parking included and being across the road from the bus stop made it easy to travel around the area. The location is great for everything in the village and thereâs always a bit of a buzz in the street outside. The bedrooms are all doubles and with 3 bathrooms and 4 toilets in total so there are no queues in the morning. The property was well equipped â dishwasher, washer/drier, iron/ironing table, boot drier in the separate boot room, smart TV and smart speaker. Jamie and Cheryl, the owners have clearly given a lot of thought to their guestsâ needs and experience and created a very welcoming environment. We had a couple of minor issues but these were dealt with promptly, efficiently and courteously â in fact the communication and customer service from Jamie was always above and beyond. I would thoroughly recommend Shepherds Crook to anyone thinking of a holiday in The Lakes as a family or group of friends

A lovely house, beautifully furnished and presented and very comfortable.
Great sized rooms and plenty of bathrooms and loos and hot water. The downsides were the lack of parking near the house. Although the site said parking for 1 car, I hadnât appreciated that it was free parking for 1 car within the local car park. This made unloading the car difficult. We were catering for 8 people, so had a lot of food boxes. Also checkout time is extremely early at 9:30am. We felt this was probably a hangover from Covid regulations, but given those regulations no longer apply, and we had checked and the house wasnât booked for the next day, this seems excessive. We felt the guidance still in the house regarding completely stripping the beds was also excessive, given the bags for putting the bedding in were nowhere to be found and also given the costs of the house, we felt it was a bit much to ask us to strip the beds and be out by 9:30. One other niggle was that the dishwasher was full of dirty crockery and cutlery when we arrived.
