What our customers say about their holidays
John - Verified booking
The house is in a beautiful location and was extremely clean and well presented.
The owner had gone to a lot of trouble to tell us where to find the keys, which was useful, and had left us some milk and a bottle of wine (thank you, that was appreciated!) However we encountered some significant problems, given that we were occupying four double bedrooms and therefore had 8 adults to accommodate and feed. 1) Firstly, there were no spare loo rolls. One loo only had a tiny quantity of paper remaining on the one roll. 2) The washing up liquid was two thirds empty and what was there seemed to have been diluted with water. 3) There was no hair dryer anywhere in the house. When asked, the owner simply told us there wasn't one. There would normally be a hair dryer in a B&B or a hotel. 4) The biggest problem was the fridge, which was small and below counter level. Not remotely big enough for food for 8. In addition, the bottom shelf inside the door was missing, meaning there was nowhere to store upright any of our bottles of milk, beer or white wine. The separate freezer was also too small. 5) The kitchen is very small for 6-8 people to occupy. The sink has one draining board on the right and nothing at all on the left (doorway). This makes washing up very awkward. They seem not to have thought about how to maximise the efficiency of the layout. The dish washer was difficult to stack and the lid kept shutting and would not stay open. 6) The saucepans and frying pan were all of very cheap and poor quality. 7) The door into the main double bedroom did not shut. So no privacy. Yes, the doorway was old and warped, (character) but the problem could easily have been solved by shaving down one corner of the door, to make it fit. 8) There was no information about WiFi. Eventually I found the router and the passcode on the back of it. 9) The TV in the main sitting room was tiny. Impossible for 8 people to sit there and watch TV together - and this was World Cup weekend. The setting of this property is idyllic. But our impression was that the owner (who had left a card advertising skiing apartments in the Alps, so is presumably is a professional landlord) has decided to spend as little as possible on facilities. On the positive side, the beds were very comfortable with good quality bedding and sheets. In conclusion, we would not rent this property again unless the facilities are improved. It is a pity, because the house is in a stunning location, which we otherwise enjoyed very much. Overall not good value for nearly £900 for two nights' stay

We were 8 adults, one child and one big Labrador staying for Christmas and furthermore our first Christmas together for 3 years!
From the moment we stepped into the Station House we knew that we had made a good choice. The house was decorated extensively outside and in with lovely touches such as seasonal cushions, fireguard, table centrepiece and other ornaments and a huge (real) Christmas tree. Chocolates and a bottle of bubbly were a real welcome treat! The big porch area serves as an idea place for coats and shoes, especially our walking boots. The house is very dog friendly and there are extra dog bowls and a few accessories in the utility room. A large games room gives extra space where there are plenty of board games, Lego bricks, wooden train and other toys as well as an air hockey table and a TV with Xbox. The large and well equipped kitchen was perfect for preparing our Christmas dinner and the dining room big enough for comfortably accommodate us all. Upstairs the bedrooms where comfortable and spacious and included 2 en-suite rooms. Our 4 year old grandson was very happy with the toddler bed and there were 2 additional cots in other rooms along with extra stair gates. Although we did not need them it indicates the consideration the owners have made when equipping the house, offering plenty of choice for those with young children and babies. We note from previous comments that the adjacent train track can be a disturbance, especially at night. As we were staying over Christmas (and there were train strikes) we have to say there was no problem apart for the occasional rapidly passing commuter train. If we were to note any issues it was was the lack of a good carving knife among the cutlery, also the family bathroom lock did not work properly. We had a lovely time at the Station House and it has long been known to our Grandson as the âChristmas Houseâ it truly lived up to expectations and provided a magical Christmas for all âchildrenâ young and old!

Lovely property with everything we needed for the stay provided, but looking a little tired and needed a good clean in some places with plenty of cobwebs!
Entrance hall is very welcoming, especially when sunny, and useful for stripping off wet clothes after rain before moving into the inner hall, but loose cables could do with pinning to the wall. Living room was nice but the couches were too soft and difficult to stand up from, the entrance door was sticking, and the room could benefit from some table lamps. The main TV was only connected to wi-fi so main channels could only be reached through catch-up. Bedrooms were clean and beds comfortable, but two of the shower trays were showing signs of age and use. Lovely large kitchen with plenty of utensils, cutlery, dishes, glasses, etc, and a good large fridge. One of the small units needs repair and spoilt the overall look, but otherwise the kitchen and utility are well stocked. It was very useful to know that Sainsburys (and maybe others) deliver direct to the door. The garden was a little overgrown and in need of some maintenance, but was fully enclosed, exactly what we needed for two dogs. However, the lights outside the back door appeared not to work which made it difficult when the dogs went out late at night. The noise from the trains was certainly no issue, especially as the line was closed from the second day! And the late night goods train only provided a background rumble. With a few minor tweaks and maintenance, Station House would be restored to perfection.

Nice touch with bottle of wine, Swiss roll and a packet of biscuits.
It wasnât clean in the kitchen. I had to wash dishes and cutlery and cooking implements, etc. before use. I wiped the sides with an antibacterial wipe and it was filthy. Some of the cupboards were dirty inside. The lid of the bin in the kitchen was filthy. The floors downstairs were dirty as was the stand with the toilet roll on in the downstairs toilet. The bathroom cabinet in the double room at the top of the stairs had hair in it. The kitchen chairs seats were filthy as were the sofas. This was the dirtiest cottage that weâve ever stayed in. The showers were clean on arrival. It was a beautiful cottage in a lovely setting. More attention needs to be paid to cleaning. Also checking on kitchen equipment as the grater was broken and several pieces of crockery were chipped which harbours germs. We also found it strange that the headboards werenât attached and any movement caused them to bang against the wall which woke every one else in the cottage up. I hope that this review will allow improvements to be made as it was a beautiful village to stay in and everyone was so friendly.

Myself and 8 other family members stayed here for 2 nights and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
House was beautiful, perfect size and we didnât feel cramped! Lovely large living room and large dining room table in the dining room, both of which seated all of us comfortably. Kitchen was very well equipped. Very dog friendly but at the same time didnât smell of dogs!! And no dog hair anywhere! Child gates were very useful - we had no children but used them to keep the dogs downstairs. Bedrooms were lovely, 2 of which had en- suites. And complimentary bottles of water at bedside were a lovely touch. Garden was beautiful with plenty of garden furniture and a BBQ. Also totally secure so dogs were free to run around safely! House right next to train track so you could see and hear the trains going past quite frequently which we loved! Beautiful views from the bedroom windows. I would definitely recommend staying here xx
