What our customers say about their holidays
Julian - Verified booking
In my long experience, it is a truism that customers often know more about products than the producer.
Producers frequently are reluctant to accept this. Our expectations are based on many holiday rentals. Parsimonious provision of toilet rolls. We had to take paper from another roll and then wind it round the cardboard inner of another roll. The dishwasher was not working. This was not advised beforehand but on arrival the information was on laminated cards. In other words this must have been the situation for a considerable time so why were we not advised and why has a repair not been carried out? A tiny scouring spoge was provided. The instructions for kitchen waste were ambiguous - we never did work out what the 'white bag' was. The biggest issue is car parking. This is a 4 bed property so a need for 3 or 4 cars is indicated. It is informative that a previous owner hived off a piece of land, built an adjacent property and then moved into it and sold what is now Ings House. The gravel is front of his new house is supposed to be shared with Ings House. However he clearly thinks he still owns the land. There are two 'semidetached' garages attached to Ings House, but it transpires one is rented out to the old owner. This is not made clear. A sign states we could park 'in front of the garage'. Which garage? Which way? This neighbour parked in the middle of the gravel leaving a tiny sliver of space which we could just get our car into. Having done this, another neighbour asked us to move our car as the owner would be returning with a camper van. He duly did and then he parked his car sideways with a trailer attached so the supposed space for us to park was never available. I guess he was sending some sort of message. THIS NEEDS SORTING AND THE RIGHT TO PARK FOR VISITORS MADE ABSOLUTELY CLEAR !!!!! We picked this house for its spaciousness and proximity to the town. I could not in conscience advocate visitors with three cars should stay here.

This is a great traditional stone bulit cottage in the heart of Hawes.
It is on a quiet back street and is peaceful, especially at night - no unwanted noises to disturb sleep. We found the whole house to be spotlessley clean, and it is well furnished. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. The bathroom is modern, with full bath and additional electic-powered walk-in shower with large cubicle. The kitchen is not 'state-of-the art' modern, but has a good efficient fridge, washing machine, electric cooker, small microwave oven and small appliances. There is ample crockery, utensils etc to prepare simple meals with, though you may struggle a bit if you want to cook Christmas dinner or prepare a wedding reception! However, holidays aren't for spending in the kitchen; go out and boost the local economy by eating in the locals pubs & cafes, and enjoy yourself :) In the sideboard there is a huge amount of up-to-date tourist information leaflets which cover the area, plus a folder, which are useful . If you have mobilty issues you may find this property isn't for you. The internal stairs are quite steep, and the steps up into the patio area from the kitchen door could be difficult for anybody who has knee or hip problems. I'm in my mid-70s and struggled a bit with these, but managed, and it's easy to go out of the front door and up to the patio via the garage access slope. The cottage is not suitable for a wheelchair user. The garage behind the property is up a steepish slope and is larger than many of the ones built today - we had no problem parking in it, leaving the patio free to enjoy. The property owner is very friendly, appraochable and helpful, a very nice person. We would reccommend this property without hesitation.

We have just returned from a week at Rockville in Hawes.
We were blessed with sunny weather all week and a fantastic cottage to stay in. Rockville is a traditional cottage but has all the modern touches to give a very comfortable holiday. It is tucked just behind the main street in Hawes, but no traffic noise gets through, ensuring a very quiet night's sleep. The house is double fronted, very spacious, immaculately clean with lovely carpets and furnishings. Everything you could possibly need is available. The bedrooms have very comfortable beds with good quality bedding. The bathroom is large and newly fitted with a super shower and separate bath. Mrs Alderson the owner, is very friendly and approachable and lives near to the cottage and is on hand if anything is required. There is plenty of parking and the views behind the cottage are wonderful, as are all the superb walks around Hawes. I can see why this cottage has lots of return bookings. It is a jewel indeed. Well done Mrs Alderson!

We had a wonderful stay at Rockville and will certainly look to book again.
Positives: - Location - never had better from a Hawes cottage and was literally a few seconds' walk to get into the centre of everything - Heating - toasty warm at all times - Big bed - sooooo comfortable resulting in great sleeps under that fab duvet - TV signal - spot on...many cottages have dodgy TVs Negatives: - Parking in a big car is tight on the patio and in the garage, especially doing it for the first time in the dark - Didn't get things that other cottage owners provide as standard, eg. board games, playing cards, information folder and a small welcome pack (teabags, coffee, biscuits, pint of milk) - The shower went from freezing to scalding in a repeating 20 second cycle....maybe the toilet cistern was re-filling and affected supply to the shower. Could be really dangerous for children and older people. Overall, was a really lovely break and the cottage certainly contributed to that! Thank you.
