What our customers say about their holidays

We absolutely loved our stay at The Retreat.
The accommodation was modern, clean, and cosy. The location was quiet and secluded which was ideal for relaxing expecially with the wonderful hot tub outside. The bed was so comfortable it was like being in a 5 star hotel. The shower was perfect after a day walking and exploring the countryside. We thought the bread, milk and the little jar of dog treats were a thoughful little touch. The electric fire soon warmed up and made the room cosy and warm. Locally the village of Bangor on Dee is a short walk away which has a village shop and 2 pubs (The Buck and The Royal Oak) We visited both pubs during our stay but it is worth mentioning that The Buck does not serve food on Mondays or Tuesdays and The Royal Oak doesnt open at all on Mondays or Tuesdays. Both pubs are very welcominging and dog friendly. Overall we had a fantastic time at The Retreat and we would definately recommend a stay here. Would we return?....absolutely and we will be booking again sometime soon.

Arrived at the shephards hut , parking space at the rear with a gate to the yard where the hot tub is .
The yard is not suitable due to size for dog exercise and the field shown in the photos is out of bounds (slightly deceiving photos) Hot tub was great nice and warm the shelter next to it is not suitable to leave clothes as it rains in when the wind blows also the cushion is mouldy. The steps and area leading to the door are dangerous when wet, it's decking so when it rains which it did its like walking on ice Beware! Inside was warm and well equiped, tv with netflix ect we couldn't find a WiFi password for our phones . Bedroom was also nice and warm with a big bath and a noisy wobbly bed but everything was clean . Down sides to this short break was the dangerous decking when wet! And the toilet! Never have I ever come across such a small toilet room you literally could not be in there with the door closed, I stood up from the toilet and bashed my head on the towel rail!

The place is nice, a bit small but that was expected.
Totally unbearable with the heat though. The size of the place together with the construction of it (tin roof, metal walls and ,large windows without propper blinds and facing the sun most of the day) meant that inside the cabin was a good 7°c hotter than it was outside. I understand it was hot weather when we went but it was 40°c inside (that is from the reading on the thermometer provided) when we arrived. We had to leave on the first night as both of us were unwell in this level of heat. My partner was sick and i had to sit under a cold shower at one point so that i wouldnt pass out. Fans were provided for the cabin but in 40°c heat this didn't help at all. There really needs to be something else in place for warm/summer weather as in its current condition it is dangerous in that kind of weather.

Me and my partner had a lovely couple of nights here.
Such a cute little cabin, even got a complimentary bottle of Prosecco in the fridge which I found a lovely add!! The hot tub is absolutely amazing at the end of the day!! The view is amazing to wake up to in the morning too! We live in a city so it was lovely to get away from all the business. We loved that we could bring our puppy with us although We didnât know there was chickens from the listing but thankfully our dog wasnât too bad. The only thing I could even say is it stopped us having a lie which would have been nice as we had a couple nights off being woke up by a toddler however it definitely did not ruin our weekend, would definitely recommend staying here, my daughter would have loved it also :)

We absolutely loved our stay at the shepards hut with our dog and baby.
The small space was very practical and well designed and thought out. My little boy loved watching the chickens out of the huge windows in the morning. The bed was slightly uncomfortable in comparison to our bed at home but we did sleep OK. The only thing was it was very very cold during the night and first thing in the morning, but apart from this everything else was spot on. The hot tub was a fantastic way to relax and end the day and the complimentary prosecco was a brilliant touch. Everything was so clean and it felt very homely. The location is prime if you want to go out and explore nothing is too far away. Brilliant stay. Will definitely recommend and will be back for sure!!
