What our customers say about their holidays

What an amazing property! The barn was spacious, immaculately clean and very very comfortable. Beds were divine with pillows and bedding to match the luxury. Crockery and cutlery were abundant and enough I think to cater for the whole village! This barn is great for a multi generational get together. We spent New Year there and were able to spread out in different areas of the barn to suit each family member. The weather was absolutely atrocious so didnât take much advantage of vast garden. It was however good to look out and watch the weather against the vineyards behind. Iâm sure in nicer weather it would have been fab for al fresco dining etc. Outside games room in the bad weather was a hit with everyone and a table tennis tournament was a regular evening activity! Sam and Phil were excellent hosts. Communication prior and during our stay was brilliant. There were a couple of requests and they were âon itâ immediately. They also gave us recommendations where to go! All in all a fantastic week away! Will definitely return!

I went on holiday with my two sisters because we wanted to visit Sissinghurst, Scotney Castle and Pashley Manor Gardens. The cottage is perfectly positioned for these three gardens. We chose Corner Cottage because it had 3 bedrooms. Sadly we couldn’t use the third bedroom after the first night as it was too dangerous to use the very steep staircase. It would be perfect for a couple or small family. The kitchen was well equipped and the modern bathroom light and bright with a big shower. The cottage was a combination of old and new which worked really well. Very comfortable beds. We really enjoyed our stay. The local pub was good and easy to walk to in about 15 mins along the road but there is a pavement. Lots of lovely villages to explore. One downside is the very busy road which we could hear from the bedrooms and the main garden. It didn’t spoil our stay though. My main overall comment is a really lovely cottage, but consider the 3rd bedroom and main road. Would recommend for up to four people.

The inaccuracy in the house description mainly lies in the fact the two double beds were actually small doubles (queen size) ans therefore unsuitable for 2 adults. Onw of our guests slept on an air bed. Other beds in the house were very soft, affecting our sleep. The house did not feel properly equipped as a holiday home. Many small details such as no hairdryer, a room with no light bulb so no source of light, nowhere to store clothes as drawers contained the families books, clothes etc. No bins in the annexe bedrooms or bathrooms. Pool maintenance was inadequate, therefore it turned green and very cloudy and was unusable for 2 days. Towels were very thin and barely possible to dry oneself but thankfully we'd brought our own pool towels so used these instead. But the house has a lot of potential as a holiday home and the grounds and tennis court were fantastic.

As a family group of 10, we have stayed at many Rural Retreat properties and everyone agreed that Bokes Barn was the best so far by a mile. This time we were accompanied by my 16 month old granddaughter and a dog, so a new experience for everyone. The layout of the converted farm barn was really well thought out, with the concrete beams remaining in situ as a novel feature. The provision of two dishwashers was a definite time saving benefit, as in other properties, normally only one dishwasher was provided. The outside patio area was well appointed and well used, with the outdoor games such as Boules and a large size Jenga being popular. The separate games room also proved popular for darts and pool. The owners Sam and Phil were extremely helpful, available for any question, yet not at all intrusive, in fact the ideal hosts.
