What our customers say about their holidays

Amazing house with everything you could possibly need and more to make your stay comfortable.
The kitchen is fully equipped in case you want to eat in. There are board games and lots of books for adults and children. Three extra large comfortable couches in the living room. TVâs in all bedrooms (but not everyone has a remote) and every room is en-suite which is ideal when you have a large group staying. There is parking for 3 cars at the rear of the garden behind a fence, 2 cars by the back door to the property and two spaces at the front. There is a handy boot room at the rear to leave muddy boots and wet coats, there is also a washing machine and drier in there. The house is opposite the River Greta and if you turn left out of the property you will come to a river walk which you can enter through the Crosthwaite Road Car Park, this walk takes you through lovely parkland to the town along the riverside. If you turn right from the property this takes you turn to High Hill and you can walk along this road into Keswick Town and the many shops, pubs and lake walks. The lovely market was on in the town on Saturday and there are many places to eat and drink however I would suggest you book a table if you can at peak times. Just a point to note, which wasnât a problem for us, however, the back garden is not gated and this property and neighbouring properties use the small road/pathway at the side of the property to access their parking spaces. This would be only be a problem if you had children or dogs left unsupervised. We had a wonderful stay with three generations of family to celebrate a special birthday.

We found Ashness House to be in an excellent location.
It is just 5 minutes to the shops at the top of the centre of Keswick. The views from some of the windows are stunning and when we were there there was snow too! The heating is excellent as well as the constant hot water which is great after a long, cold walk out! A small point was that we expected washing up liquid, spare bin liners and a washing up brush and this had been mentioned by previous people in the guest book.We had to buy all these and dishwasher tablets too.Perhaps it was a Covid thing....? The pillows are rather too bulky for a comfortable nightâs sleep...at least two of our party found that.We bought some more comfortable ones. Also the lounge is smaller in reality compared to the photo online. You cannot really comfortably fit 8 people in there for some time. The kitchen is well equipped mostly but our chef(who cooked every day) said the cooker was far from easy to manage. The kidsâ room up the top of the house was adored and our granddaughters were very happy. The beds are all very comfortable. I tripped over the little step up to the big toilet downstairs. Just watch out! The hallway is rather cold. All in all, we loved our stay and we enjoyed the family room downstairs. It is worth mentioning that it looks like the table can be extended to 8 places but there were only 5 adults and 2 children so we coped as it was. Thanks very much.

The cottage is absolutely gorgeous and was really comfortable for us during our stay.
It was really well equipped as well with little extras not all holiday cottages have, which were very much appreciated. The downstairs toilet seat was broken when we arrived and I told the lady who called to make sure we had got in to the property without problems, and she said it would be fixed on the day we left which was fine as there were plenty of other toilets for us to use! I note that others who have stayed in the cottage since say the seat was still broken. The other seats were a little wobbly as well, especially the one in the en suite. The only other little issue was that the website provided for details about the cottage didn't work so there was no information about the cottage or bin day etc. The bins were overflowing and I felt bad about leaving our rubbish by the side of the bins opposite the house but I totally appreciate that this was down to a strike by the refuse workers rather than anything else. I see someone else has said that the beck at the side of the house is a little noisy, but we loved the sound of the water and frequently sat outside to enjoy it. Those things aside, we really loved the cottage. So much so, we have booked again for next summer!

The cottage was lovely.
Clean, spacious, great location. A couple of caveats though: 1. There is no information in the cottage providing the essentials, such as what day to put bins out. A website was provided for cottage information, but it doesn't seem to exist! 2. The rushing sound of the beck next to the cottage takes a bit of getting used to - this may be a consideration if you like your bedroom window open at night and are a light sleeper. 3. Three of the toilet seats were very wobbly (in fact one was completely off when we arrived). We did report this to Sykes and were told someone would come to make repairs, but no-one ever did. 4. The bathroom locks are stiff. The one on the en suite to the master bedroom is particularly dangerous - please take care as one of us got locked in and it took us over an hour to rescue them - no end of tools failed to work. These locks require attention, but weren't sorted during our stay. 5. It would be good if one of the double beds could be converted to twins. Sorry if this all sounds negative, but I think it's important some of these issues are addressed. Despite the above, we DID love the cottage and greatly enjoyed our stay there.

We had a fabulous stay at Ladstock Cottage.
The position was perfect for a wonderful walking holiday. Everyone was very comfortable and the layout and setup of the cottage enabled a very relaxed stay. We were very grateful for previous feedback which gave us a âheads-upâ on the things that we needed to be alerted to - the sticky bathroom door, no ceiling lights over the lounge area, the outside security light and the heating system - these things had not been corrected by the time we arrived. Fortunately we werenât too bothered by the lights in the lounge (which would have been helpful) and the bathroom door, but the security light outside would have been useful as we arrived in the dark after a long journey beset by accidents and road closures. Fortunately we had experience of different heating systems. However, we loved Ladstock Cottage and would love to be able to return. We went with our son and his family - four adults, two children and two dogs. It must be hard for local people in the village with people coming and going but I have to say, the neighbours and people we met from the village were very friendly and welcoming.
