What our customers say about their holidays

Could be lovely - but needs a lot of attention.
The worst was the VERY dangerous electric towel rail â this is hot to burning levels â I burned my hand twice hanging up towels and when I caught my elbow on it while getting out of the bath and it immediately blistered and burned through layers of skin casing a nasty burn which is still painful 5 days on. There are no rails in the bath or wall and it is quite a high bath - so nothing to get hold of when getting in and out and Iâm a fit adult. This would be really dangerous for children, anyone elderly or disabled â the rail is a real health and safety issue heating to the temperature of an iron and was not even labelled with a warning sign as dangerous as very hot. When we arrived at 4.30 (check in was from 4.00) the wooden floors and tiled entrance had recently been mopped and were very wet meaning that both humans and dogs were slipping a lot until they were eventually dried. We couldn't use the drive for parking as a large ATV was parked there for the duration of our stay so we had to park on the road â meaning we had to carry all the luggage and load dogs directly onto the road in the rain. Parking area was very overgrown so passenger had to get out into thorns. Dustbins are left out at the front of the cottage - adding to the general dilapidated appearance. The upstairs floor looked derelict â even worse state than downstairs. The photos must be old that were used in the advert as it didnât live up to expectations. Random clutter left in corners and behind the washer â which had been poorly fitted so that the doors didnât close. Needs a thorough update, decorate inside and out and a deep clean. Paint on windows cracked inside and out. Light switches, plug sockets, table mats, chopping board all needed cleaning. Curtains in sitting room and hall were grubby on the bottoms and dusty with cobwebs. Damp on bedroom wall. Fuse boxes all exposed â need boxing in. Only one loo roll for 4 nights and 3 dishwasher tablets seems rather mean. The garden is a jungle and not dog proof. Nettles and thorny roses everywhere, full of weeds and overgrown shrubs, junk and dying planters. Such a shame as it could be a lovely place to sit out. View from kitchen was onto a mass of nettles. So â whilst it was in a beautiful location with walks close by, I would not recommend it until plenty of TLC has been lavished on it. Photos available. Bit of a long list - but it wasn't cheap and we expected better.

We were in the area earlier than the 4pm check in and we called Danielle to see if we could arrive a little bit early, She checked with the cleaner and then called us back to say it was ready early for us, which was a nice start to our break.
When we arrived we were greeted by Danielle and her two lovely dogs and she told us about the hot tub, walks in the area and places to eat nearby, all extremely helpful. The cottage was spotless! You could see it had been deep cleaned ready for us, we found a lovely bottle of prosecco and some home made rocky road brownies waiting for us in the kitchen which was a nice touch by the owners. The cottage was warm, cosy and right next to the river Esk. The hot tub was huge and great to relax in on a night with a glass of bubbles ! We had a newly built viewing area down some steps over looking the river, this would be lovely on a warm morning/evening to sit and watch the wild life. Bed was very comfortable and plenty of wardrobe space, could have done with more hangers in the wardrobe and one of the roller blinds was broken, no pully to open/shut the blind. Bathroom was light and airy and has a very good shower, plenty of towels (even though we took our own too), the shower glass door is very loose and can open so water can go on the floor, this needs attention. Kitchen was a great size and had plenty of cupboards but few glasses, only 1 wine glass and no prosecco glasses. It has two plastic glasses for out side but not great to drink out of while chilling in the living room, and needs a blind at the front door window. Outside area was relaxing and plenty of wood and matches for the chimenea, it does have a small two seater wicker sofa but the cushions had been left out so they were wet and mouldy, not sure why these weren't brought into the cottage ? so we couldn't use that seating area. We are been a little picky with these issues but they are so small and could be easily remedied to make the cottage even better than it is, we will definitely be going back, such a relaxing spot away from everything, just what's needed if you want a chilled out break!

Our stay at Carwinley Mill House Cottage was absolutely wonderful, and we were greeted with a very warm welcome by the owners, then shown around as soon as we arrived.
The cottage had recently been refurbished and we were completely taken aback by how lovely it looked, by the work that had been done to it, and it's history. It was clean, roomy, and absolutely gorgeous! There was plenty of space for two, and outside, the cottage's position created a perfect sun trap at the top sitting area, which was great for relaxing, plus jacuzzi sessions were made even more enjoyable by the nature that was hiding in and around the trees, and the sound of the river. The second sitting area was a few steps below and opened up onto a lovely decked balcony, overhanging the river. It really couldn't get more tranquil. Longtown is perfect for travelling to Scotland, the Lakes, the border, or exploring further south, and my husband and I stayed at Carwinley Mill House Cottage for a week, which for us, wasn't enough, but we had to come home (although we honestly didn't want to leave!) We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and we will be booking to stay again. Danielle, Jed, Trevor and Danielle's mum were all so warm and friendly, it really topped off our stay. A huge thank you to you all! We'll be back.

What a fabulous property, spotlessly clean, fully equipped for our very rainy week in July.
Extremely helpful housekeeper Claire, and so much to do in the area. Book a visit to the Dark Sky Kielder Observatory for an evening of stargazing fun, Lovely walks in and around Kielder water and the little market town of Corbridge is well worth a visit for unusual independent shops. The wonderful Hadrians wall is on the doorstep at Housesteads, and a visit to the stunning grounds and Arts and Crafts beauty of Cragside within an hour. Its hard to think of any negatives with the Greysteads church, perhaps its worth saying that if you are staying with a dog there are no walks from the property ( that we could locate), the road is quite busy with logging lorries so not an option during our stay for dog walking along the road, and to get to the lovely little fenced off garden from the church you need to walk through the graveyard to let your dog off the lead or carry your coffee to the outside space. This was the only minor issue late at night in the rain ! . and something that makes total sense given the property is a church, but wasn't mentioned in the details.Overall one of the very best properties we've stayed in.

Lovely peaceful surroundings, hot tub was good when it worked properly.
WiFi was very poor and worked intermittently. Some maintenance required in the grounds as the trees and bushes are taken over with the banister not available for the full duration of the steep steps down to the decked area at waterside due to brambles and nettles over growing. I would recommend to the owner the installation of some netting at the doors with a magnetic closure in middle, this would allow the freedom of having the French doors open without the worry of allowing too many flies inside, as it is nice to allow the fresh air in. The couch in the livingroom lacks a little support so when you wish to relax inside in the evening it can be difficult without constantly moving cushions around to assist. Although there is room for improvement, this is a lovely place that is only a short drive from the motorway but far away enough away for peace and quiet.
