What our customers say about their holidays

Buzzards Breg is in a beautiful, but very remote location.
The cottage itself has been sensitively & creatively refurbished after the rebuild from barn to cosy cottage. It was very comfortable. But it was a shame the woodburner had not been cleared out of ash & subsequently relaid , ready for us. ( as promised in information ) We are both touching 80 years & had recent serious health issues & stress over many months related to this. The ow ners knew this. There is no freezer in the property & we would suggest this is a neccessity due to its location, much preferable to the dishwasher which we did not use. The lobby & utility area ( with large sink ) by front door was a most useful feature where one could leave wet boots , waterproofs etc & gather our belongings together, making arrival & departure much easier, rather than continually walking back inside with outside shoes on. The listing was not accurate as there WAS a shaving point & there WAS a hairdryer provided, the former not obvious. We had not expected to provide our own toilet rolls or to strip the bed on departure. Neither of these requisites have ever been required before in s/c accommodation & friends were amazed that this was expected. A welcome pack or even just milk would have been much appreciated . In the past owners had actually asked us if there were any food items they could provide for us on our arrival. We , of course, wished to pay for these but that offer was always refused !!! The most aggravating feature of Sykes is that one cannot reach the owners until 48 hours before departure. This has NEVER been our experience before & owners have consistently wanted to be as helpful as possible prior to the holiday, always going the extra mile, even to the extent of texting us while they have been on holiday abroad themselves ! Nothing has been too much trouble. My wife was made to feel an inconvenience by Steve when she contacted Sykes re delay in owners contacting us. She had many concerns to make the holiday as easy as possible due to the huge pressures we had been under since early 2022. We are 'easy ' folk, not the troublesome variety (!) & initial communications were definitely not helpful or particularly kind. That was a shame. She was told that consumable items like bin bags , loo rolls etc must be brought by us & that personal items like a hairdryer should be brought too !!! Extraordinary ! She was told we were renting the building & that was all. It was not a good introduction & she was rather shocked, as was I . However, we give thanks for the peace & beauty of the environment, once there. It is most appropriate for walkers who have little desire to venture further than the immediate landscape.

Located on the High Street, this place is a great location close to food, shops, the beach, the castle, and the train station.
The view from the back doors does offer the enchanting view of the castle, as advertised on the Sykes' site. The directions received on how to find the place were not super clear but we managed to find it without too much inconvenience thanks to Google's help. At first glance, the property looks fabulous but some things were not as perfect as they seem. The 2 high dining chairs were hard and uncomfortable to get in and out of and is the only place to eat with the chairs sitting mere inches from the washroom door. The wooden armrest covers are heavy and fall easily to the floor with a loud crash. It would also have been appreciated if there was a place to hang coats and a small doormat. It rained a little bit during our stay and there is nowhere near the door to hang gear to dry, the only doormat to wipe off footwear is located outside the room so the floor got a little dirty when we removed our outerwear. The bedding and pillows were simply lovely but the bed itself was too soft for our comfort. At times, the noise from the street was audible and would wake us briefly, but it was not really awful. The heavy curtains really helped to block light as well as noise. We really appreciated having the dishwasher as there are not many pieces of each plates, bowls, cutlery etc. Thank you for the Welsh cakes, instant coffee, sugar, and milk as well. We would stay again if we were in the area for a short stay. On a side note, the fish and chips we had on our last night from the shop below was FABULOUS!! One of the best cod we've ever had! (I believe the establishment is owned by the same owner as the apartment.)

Having had experience of other holiday cottages, I feel able to offer some constructive critique.
Firstly I would say that we had a wonderful week in Trearddur - itâs a lovely location and conducive to restorative rest and relaxation. The location of the cottage is ideal. The cottage itself is comfortable and fine for 2 people. It lacks natural light so if the weather is not fine it can be claustrophobic in the living area. The amenities are fine, apart perhaps from a fridge which is difficult to access (particularly the lower shelves) in its current location and the lack of a washing machine/airer/washing line. Wi-fi is not really as advertised as you need to move away from the cottage to a nearby central area which is accessed by a key which hangs in the kitchen and was not noticed by us until the day before our departure. In this regard a welcome folder of detailed information might be better than sheets of A4 posted in the kitchen. The garden is nice although the garden furniture is pretty worn and not in keeping with the otherwise good quality provision in the cottage. We took our own chairs and were able to relax in the garden; this would not have been as enjoyable had we had to use what is in place. Finally the welcome pack, including the bottle of Prosecco was a nice touch and was appreciated.

A lovely bijou cottage that catered for every need.
Very well equipped and a great base to explore from. We were grateful for the thoughtful welcome pack. Previous comments we had read suggested a problem with saucepans being old. This is no longer the case, they were virtually new. No complaints in the kitchen! Our only â criticism â would be that whilst we understand cost to be kept to minimum, it could benefit from updating some useable cushions to replace those already there, ( they are flat and offer no support on the sofa). The pillows in the bedroom were a tad lifeless too but we had brought our own anyhow just incase. Garden was lovely too, but the furniture again, neglected and some could do with being disposed of ax unusable. Itâs a shame there wasnât a small fence though to keep our dog from escaping, but obviously we stayed with him the whole time. These are only small things, and didnât spoil our stay, but intended only as positive feedback. Itâs a really well looked after property otherwise. Loved it ****

The cottage was well situated within the beautiful Welsh countryside, which is exactly what we wanted.
The amenities were good, but few things could be added/amended on the description. 1) The garden's picture didn't reflect the real size of the garden. When we arrived it had been fenced off, which was a much smaller place than advertised. 2) An external light at the back of the garden would be useful for the evening/night to check on the dog when he goes out. 3) A big gap in the fence leading onto the road MUST be fixed, as our dog escaped through it! Lucky no tractor was passing at the same time... 4) A fridge with a freezer compartment would be ideal, for storing food or ice cubes, as shops are quite a way away. 5) A door (or something else) would be very useful at the bottom of the stairs to stop dogs going upstairs. 6) The underfloor heating is great, but it takes a long while to warm the place up.... We had a very nice time though. The stillness of the environment, the views on the hills and the birds chirping were all fantastic.
