What our customers say about their holidays
Margot McMurdo - Verified booking
The cottage is in a superb location in Rockcliffe. 2 parts to the garden. The second area of garden accessed by a gate from the private road just opposite the house, goes right onto the beach. Our young dog just loved it and we always cleaned up after him, there are bins for dog poo bags located along the 'main' roadway inthe village. It is all very clean, people really care to keep the area beautiful. There are so many intersting walks from the house in all directions, with hiden places to tae a seat and watch the seabirds and rocks in the bay, and the Garden Cafe up the hill is just a 5 minute stroll and you can get delicious home made cakes to take back to the cottage if you do not want to sit out in their garden. under their apple tree.It is not a sit in cafe, but a must visit. The house is very spacious a large well equipped kitchen and utility room , even a freezer in the garage for ice creams etc.The consevatory is lovely as it looks over the front garden and onto the bay. It was a treat to sit in the lounge if the weather was a bit dodgy with the log burning stove on and it really keeps the place extra warm. There are books and hgames too to enjoy and maps of the arera to explore. The downstairs shower was the best we have ever experienced and we have stayed in many places all over Scotland. The bedrooms are spacious.Red squirrels and plenty wild birds visit the garden feeders, a joy to watch and there is a supply of bird foods in the garage to keep the feeders topped up and it adds to the homely experience of Calluna Cottage. We just wish we had the time to stay longer. An excellent home from home on the Scottish Riviera. Enjoy!

This property could be spectacular but there were far too many issues for us during our stay in September 2023.
Positives - The view from the property is absolutely spectacular, all the rooms are very spacious, the kitchen is reasonably well equipped. Negatives - On arrival the windows were open the property was very cold, the boiler was in an error state and it took a while to work out how to solve this, we eventually worked out it was due to no pressure in the boiler. There is no information in the property and we had to text the host for the WiFi password, there is also no information on the recycling procedure, how the Nest system works or what should be done on check out in relation to bed sheets etc. The kitchen is extremely tired with paint wearing off the units, the tap is loose, and in addition the bid lid was very dirty and we found a dirty tray in the oven covered in grease and food detritus. All the windows in the property were filthy. There is a leak in the lounge ceiling during heavy rain. The radiator in the bathroom leaks which pools on the bathroom floor. The curtains in the lounge come off the runner if you shut them as there is a gap in the curtain rail. The lamp in the lounge had a two pin plug so was useless. The paint on the walls are very stained in places. The rug in the lounge is a trip hazard as it has a permanent ruck in it. The parking is very compromised - we struggled to turn cars (we came in two) around at the top of the drive as the person in the downstairs flat didnât park considerately leaving extremely limited room - in addition the ground surrounding the parking area is unstable and one of our party nearly broke their ankle as the ground collapsed next to the log when they exited the car.

Calluna is a lovely property in Rockcliffe, situated off the main road but with easy access to the property by car or on foot. The private road whereon several houses are situated provides a pleasant and easy walking experience for those with mobility issues and is very accessible for those requiring wheelchair assistance out doors. The property has a lovely aura of peacefulness and nature; the garden being extremely well stocked with various trees and bushes. The kitchen is reasonably equipped with basic functional oven and affords a comfortable dining experience around the large table. Downstairs bathroom is well equipped for those with mobility issues, though the beds in the bedroom across from that bathroom are not particularly comfy . . . (in my opinion) more suited for children than adults with mobility issues. The beds in the upstairs twin room are similar but the double bed in the main bedroom is very comfortable. My elderly mum, who walks with a stick, chose to use this room rather than the downstairs bedroom. Thankfully mum was able to negotiate the stairs with the use of her stick and assistance of one person. The property is as described and I am happy to recommend it. The comments made in the 'guest book' indicate the satisfaction of other guests regarding their stay there.

We had a wonderful time at the Old Schoolhouse.
The house is spacious and well kitted out. The enclosed garden was great for the twins (2yrs old) and our dog. There were unexpected extras, like a generous welcome pack and garden toys in the shed. The location is great; the property is in a small hamlet only a couple of miles from the shops and facilities of Montrose, yet most days we stepped out of the front door and went on walks in the quiet country lanes or down to the estuary and the lighthouse. The local area has lots to do. We went to many good playparks and the beaches (Lunan and St Cyrus especially) are great. House of Dun is great for history buffs and the zoo at Camperdown Park in Dundee has some great animals (tip: we were there mid afternoon when the keepers were feeding the animals and they came forward). Most of all we enjoyed being in the country with open views, walks, tractors, and occasionally wildlife, like deer in the fields and bats flitting at twilight. The hosts Nick and Emma were friendly and helpful on the few occasions we saw them. They really wanted our feedback.

Four of us (two couples) had a lovely holiday at Bugaboo.
The cottage is well-presented with plenty cooking equipment and adequate dishes etc. The kitchen/dining/sitting room is spacious, with comfortable sofas and chairs to relax in after a dayâs walking or cycling. The entrance area is great for storing boots, jackets, etc. We used the second sitting room as a store for cool boxes, rucksacks and so on. Bedrooms are nice with comfortable beds. The laundry at the back was ideal for washing and drying clothes and would be a real bonus in bad weather. It was hot and sunny for the whole week we stayed and we enjoyed a cold drink round the picnic table in the garden when we came back each day. The area is beautiful with lots to do for people who enjoy the outdoors. The hotel about a quarter of a mile back towards Aberfeldy has a nice beer garden and offers good food. It can be accessed from a path so no need to walk along the road which can be quite busy. All in all, an excellent stay - we hope to return!
