What our customers say about their holidays

Overall, we found the cottage very adequate.
However the following was noted or would be appreciated: - the beds were a little tired - a handle on the wall to assist climbing in and out of the bath to get a shower would be safer - a smart TV would be appreciated - few bin liners would have been handy instead of just the one in the bin - a suggestion to exchange the tiny fridge freezer to a normal height fridge with no freezer - a suggestion to exchange the newish smallest fridge for a same sized freezer On 3 days/nights entering the kitchen, we saw some very large slugs, one in a cupboard and one getting into a drawer and others on the floor, these didnt get in via an open door etc as it was closed, we believe they got in via the rear of one or more of the kitchen units, we temporarily solved this by sprinkling some salt on them to kill them and onto various spots in the kitchen, we didnt see any again as of the salt but it didnt leave a nice feeling because of food being around, items in drawers and cupboards and kitchen surfaces, we felt we had to wash everything before using etc as slugs carry, if infected, rat lungworms that can be passed onto humans so with this in mind, the slug problem should be looked into by the owner even if it means pulling out the units as we believe there will be holes or badly sealed pipework/wiring etc where they are getting in especially with it being an old cottage, though this can be solved despite the age of the property. We do not believe they were getting in via the door open or closed. On the plus side, it is a lovely cottage and relaxing, we didnt find the traffic a nuisance at all, due to the thick walls. The garden was a lovely private sunny treat. There were lots of plug sockets throughout the property and it was nice and warm in the cooler nights. The parking was also adequate.

Although the cottage was generally well presented, there were a few issues we came across during our stay.
The rug in the dining room needs cleaning or replacing as there are quite a few marks on it. There is also a large stain on the landing carpet and spots in the main bedroom. The front garden needs a complete overhaul as it is currently so overgrown, the front door is inaccessible. You can only get wifi in the dining room where the router is, the signal is lost as soon as you leave that room. I agree with a previous reviewer, the fridge/freezer is totally inadequate for two people let alone four and should be replaced with a full size larder fridge and the fridge above the oven replaced with a small freezer. We did mention a couple of other things (microwave, baking trays, kettle) to the owner as we discovered a wasps nest being established next to the bathroom window. This was sorted the next day though and assurance the other things would be ordered. Although it seems picky, little things like a set of plastic/melamine chopping boards in addition to the wooden ones, a casserole dish with lid, slotted spoon and a spaghetti server would be very useful. We tried to use the gas fire but it wouldn't stay lit (I believe other guests had the same problem). Luckily the temperature went up and we didn't need to use it. However, none of these things ruined our holiday, we thoroughly enjoyed the location and the off street parking behind the cottage was a great bonus, along with the sun trap of a patio. These shouldn't be taken as criticism but helpful observations as maybe the owners don't have time to examine everything when it is being rented out fully.

A beautiful well kept cottage ideal for a Christmas getaway.
We were very impressed with just how nice the property was, the pictures donât do it justice. The cottage was nice and toasty for our arrival, the owner was extremely helpful and excellent at communicating with us. There was a nice selection of bits in the kitchen for our arrival, including a very tasty Yule Log.. a nice touch! The property on a whole was well furnished and certainly big enough for our family of 3, 2 bedrooms upstairs are spacious (1 double and 2 singles that can be zip linked together). Bathroom was always nice and warm with a generous sized bath. The living room again was spacious enough, the reclining leather sofa and the large swivel chair offer plenty of comfort. The dining area again was of good size with a nice big enough table that helped serve our Christmas dinner. The kitchen is a little small but not a problem for us, same with the garden patio but again not a problem, the fact it is well enclosed is a big plus. Location wise is pretty perfect, less than 10 minutes and youâre in Scarborough, plenty of walks nearby plus east driving distance to places like Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Dalby Forest. Overall we had an amazing break, so much so that we have already told the owner that we are thinking of re-booking for later in the year.

Fantastic property.
We adored our stay at 11 Church Street. Beautiful listed period house and had maximum comfort and everything we could possibly need. Beds and sofa very comfortable and house warm and great shower. The location is fabulous being right on the marina. No noise or annoyance from boatyard in fact it was an additional joy to watch what was happening. Double glazed bedroom windows and son delighted that he could see Whitby Museum. 5- 8 minutes walk from everything and no need to bring a car as the train arrivals and coach arrivals into whitby are very scenic and very easy to jump on a bus to anywhere. We did Staiths and RobinsHood Bay £2 ride every 30 minutes upto late at night. Supermarket also within 10 minutes walk. Hope we will return and will book 11 Church Street for sure. Loved it. The standard of house actually surpassed our expectations and attention to detail in kitchenware and textiles was appreciated.

The cottage is just off the square, so amenities are very close by.
The fixtures and fittings are of high quality and it's beautifully decorated, but there is a lack of manuals for most of appliances so it was guess work, especially the microwave. The main problem we had was heating, or lack of it. The property has 3 electric radiators, 1 in each of the upstairs bedrooms and 1 downstairs. All of them were in the frost state of 7c, so effectively off. There is a wood burner and 1 bag of logs which we used up that evening trying to get the place warm. During the week we used a further 6 bags as the radiator is only 1kw, so is just background heat. The property should have adequate heating included and the wood burner is optional and not as it is with the stove being the primary source of heat with the customer having to buy most of the fuel. The other option would be to include fuel in the rental. So if you come in winter be prepared to spend £50 on fuel.
