What our customers say about their holidays
Lynne - Verified booking
We stayed here between Xmas & New Year.
The Cottage is nice & quaint. It was cosy and was always nice & warm. Unfortunately we did have a few issues which was disappointing. We had travelled a long way , so thought that we would buy our food from the supermarket when we got here. Our journey was not good due to terrible fog and traffic which put another 2 hours onto our journey. We have stayed at lots of cottages previously and have always been left a nice welcome pack with tea , coffee , a pint of milk in the fridge and sometimes a few other bits & pieces which is always nice after a long journey so that you can just have a cuppa & a rest when you arrive. When we arrived here there was nothing!!! We had to unpack our luggage and then go back out to Northallerton around 7 miles away along Country lanes in the fog and the dark to buy some. Admittedly we needed to buy shopping anyway but it would have been really nice to have had a bit of a break first after our long journey and a nice cuppa. We also found later that there was also no salt & pepper , no tinfoil , no kitchen towel, no bin bags , really no basic amenities that we have always been left before at other properties. Items that would improve someone's stay that just cost a few pounds. We had been left 1 washing up sponge , 1 dishcloth and the tiniest amount of washing up liquid and 2 toilet Rolls!! We was also told that we would be left a bag of logs for the log burner. We was left 2 logs!! Luckily we had taken 3 bags of logs of our own. When we went to light it though , the lighter did not work so we had to go to a nearby garage on New Year's Day to buy a lighter. Also the outside lights did not work in the courtyard at the back, so when letting our dog out before bedtime at night it was pitch black. Also the clock in the kitchen did not work. The sofa & chair was not the same in the living room as in the pictures advertised and was not as nice. We also found in the file left by the owners that they had asked if you had any remaining food left when you was leaving and that you was going to throw out could you leave it as they might be able to feed their chickens with it. That's all very well and I have no problem with that if the food is to be thrown out anyway , but it would be nice if they had even left you a couple of eggs!! All in all the cottage was nice and we enjoyed the surrounding area. The pub next door was lovely and welcoming and we had a lovely meal there on New Year's Eve. The village is lovely too. I just found that a few more touches to actually welcome people to the cottage wouldn't go a miss. A few nice gestures go a long way and because of this I'm afraid we would not stay at this cottage again.

As a group of 6 ladies, we have just returned from a weekend in Carvin Tor.
A very pleasant stay overall. 10/10 for cleanliness! Not a spec of dust to be seen! Bedding was beautiful and fresh. The bathroom is lovely and spacious. The hottub was worth it's weight in gold as we had sunshine all weekend and it sits in the sun all day, so we made good use of this. The owner comes every day to check the pH level and it was beautifully hot and ready to use on arrival. This was fantastic for a weekend away with friends, but I think we would have felt quite cramped if we had stayed any longer, as we maxed out the capacity with 6 people. Low beams in the kitchen and bedrooms can be dangerous if you forget they're there! No dishwasher, although not to say there won't be in the future as there were tablets in the cupboard and a space next to the fridge where one may have been previously. Smart TV, tv's in bedrooms, microwave, toaster, oven & hobs, washing machine but no detergent so be sure to take your own if you plan to use it. Hand soap, tea towels, washing up liquid and sponge/scourer. Large fridge and freezer so plenty of room for all our food and drink. Excellent supply of glasses and plastic beakers, which is important to use outside, as glass not allowed in hottub. Not suitable for wheelchair access or to anyone unable to climb steps.

Just back from a fantastic 6 day stay at Carvin Tor.
What a wonderful little hideaway this property is. Kevin, the owner is such a helpful bloke, full of knowledge of the local area and nothing is too much trouble for him. The property was spotless throughout, kitchen well stocked with every utensil/pots/pans you could ever need, real home from home. Beds were extremely comfortable, we slept like logs ! Great , strong WiFi signal, comfortable sofas in the lounge area and TVs in every room with Freeview and as itâs October it was a little chilly in the evenings so we cranked the heating up a little bit, made it even cozier with the rain lashing against the windows and the wind howling! The hot tub was lovely too. Ok, itâs not the newest model but it does what itâs supposed to do, hot, bubbly and very relaxing. We will definitely be back for another visit. The location is perfect for getting out to either the North Yorkshire moors or The Dales, thereâs so much to see and do within a short drive and spectacular scenery everywhere. My wife and I would highly recommend Carvin Tor, weâll be back as soon as we can.

This property is well below Sykes standards.
The property had many issues the beds were very poor quality & uncomfortable, the kitchen had a integral washing machine dumped under the worktop, also F/Freezer was integral used as a free standing one, no handles, cupboards were old & sad looking, worktops & hob marked. Kettle had to be filled from the spout, there was no cupboard space to put food so had to be left on worktop. Glazed window in the kitchen was blown, chair in living room had feet removed, one bedroom was unfinished painted. Hot tub area in desperate need of some tlc certainly wasnât a patio garden area. The list is endless. The view must have been taken elsewhere, we stayed in a Sykes cottage in May this year for less than the £800+ we paid for this one. I was pleased to leave & return home to comfort and high standards.

Pollard Cottage is in a lovely location and a few minor improvements would have lifted our star rating.
On arrival we found the toilet flush to be broken (we took the cistern lid off to operate the flush when we were there and reported to the owner). The heated towel rail didnât work so the shower room was chilly (this has previously been mentioned in a 2021 review!). The porch light didnât work although it did flash a couple of times and the outside lights at the back were not working. The sofa in the living room is not as shown in the photos and is a little tired. The recliner armchair is better. The online photos need to be updated. The kitchen is modern and well equipped but a couple of little extras that would be useful are a small milk pan (the two pans in the cupboard are very large) and a baking tray for the oven. Despite these comments we did enjoy our week in Yorkshire.
