What our customers say about their holidays
John - Verified booking
The bungalow is as described and met our expectations.
It was very cold weather and initially we felt a bit chilled until we realised we needed to increase the temperature on the control unit in the hall. On a few occasions during the day when the central heating was timed to be off, we made use of the electric fire which was effective. The kitchen is modern, smart and well equipped and it was good to have a large fridge and plenty of cupboard space. The lounge is spacious and comfortable. The bedroom too is large and has a massive amount of drawer and wardrobe space. We found the bed comfortable. A TV in the bedroom would be a nice addition. The WiFi worked well most of the time. The only minor criticism is that we didnât find any information on recycling and ended up taking it all home. The location of the bungalow is very practical, it being only a 7 minute walk to the main shopping street. Aldi, Morrisons and Waitrose are all within easy walking distance, as is the railway station. We had a nice Sunday lunch at the Old Sun Inn and an excellent dinner at the St Moritz Italian restaurant, where the service was very efficient and pleasant. We had an interesting day visiting Ashbourne, Matlock, Chesterfield and Bakewell by service bus, using the exceptionally good value Derbyshire Wayfarer ticket (senior @ £6.70, available from the Tourist Office). We had only 1 fine day but made good use of it by walking 11 miles on the scenic Monsal Trail. So despite awful weather we did enjoy our week and would certainly recommend the accommodation.

Firstly, cannot wait to go back!
Secondly, apologies to owners for early arrival and unloading our cases but we let owner know and owner was gracious about it. What a property?!? Quaint and olde worlde stone cottage. Beautifully decorated and fitted out. Everything you need in the kitchen with quality utensils. Bedrooms with lovely, tasteful decor and comfort. Nice bathroom and modern shower - hubby thrilled with the massage option on his feet lol! Tv has Firestick-style option so can get YouTube and Netflix etc. The situation of the property is spectacular! Overlooking a beautiful 17th century church where we can walk the dogs around and a couple minutes walk to a dog park and lovely walks. Short walk to the town for shopping. I have a bad back so the easy access to amenities was perfect. Loads of cafes, restaurants, butchers, thereâs an Iceland and Co-op, gift and charity shops. At the property as we spent a bit of time in the courtyard garden for a smoke and let the dogs out for a sniff - got to know some of the locals which were lovely. Oh and donât get me started on the Duke William pub two mins away. Get a Sunday lunch there and you will not regret it. All food home cooked, chef and landlord are lovely, and had to take half the beef home which made me and dogs happy for a couple of days lol! Went back in the week for lunch and never had such a yummy mushroom soup! Make sure you are really hungry as portions are generous. Thirdly, which I may have mentioned, I cannot wait to go back :)

Lovely, well maintained property.
The only (minor) issue we experienced was a lack of drawer space in the twin room, which was definitely required by the two adults staying in there; I'm sure that this could be easily addressed. A comfortable, warm and cosy place which was most welcome during our stay as the majority of the week we experienced minus temperatures. Some other reviews, that we read beforehand, stated that the heating was difficult to set-up; we had no such issues (followed the instructions on the hallway thermostat). Location is good in a quiet cul-de-sac with nice neighbours. However, it is located in an elevated position in relation to the town high street. The fairly steep bank of Holker Road may prove difficult for those less able-bodied. However, taxis are readily available. A 10 minute, or so, walk along the main road (no banking/climbs) will take you to the market square where there are plentiful places to eat and drink. We took Sunday Lunch in the Cheshire Cheese, a definite 5 out of 10, but we think the Old Sun Inn may have been a better choice. My wife and I have visited and stayed in the Peak District for over twenty years and this property ranks very highly. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely book Silverlands again. Very highly recommended. Thanks to the owners for a lovely property.

Lovely large bedrooms and comfy beds.
Ideally placed for walks and places of interest. Picture of living room/dining room/kitchen was deceiving, it was a lot smaller in reality. Overall cleanliness left a lot to be desired. Glitter on the bedside table, very dusty around the stereo and unit it was sat on, crumbs under the dining table, mold in all the bathrooms, food and a toy car under the sofa seats and dog hair not removed from any of the cushions. Plus only 1 shelf in the oven making it difficult to cook for 6 adults. We did try to report these issues but there was no one available at reception, possibly due to it being new year. I would recommend it but it would need a proper clean first and the patio area would need to be finished and functioning, it's the only thing that let the property down really. Overall there's room for improvement but a nice property.

We had a lovely long weekend in Churchside house.
Matlock is lovely, there is so much to see and do in the area, and the local amenities are excellent. The house was comfortable and well equipped. I would say, as mentioned in the listing, that neither the house nor the location are really suitable for anyone with mobility issues. The stairs are steep, the walk down to town is very steep, and there is no allocated car parking so you may need to park away from the house. None of that was an issue for us, but I could imagine it being a bit tricky. One other thing to mention is the church bells. They peal the time every quarter hour day and night - the kids found it disturbed them a little bit but ear plugs sorted this so, if like me you are sensitive to noise when sleeping, bring a supply!
