What our customers say about their holidays
David - Verified booking
Immaculately maintained, tiny characterful property.
The Old Stable had everything we needed for a comfortable week away, although I would not think a longer stay would be practicable owing to the basic cooking facilities (a portable two ring electric hob and microwave) and just a tumble drier meaning handwashing lighter items of clothing, finding a laundrette or bringing lots of stuff. We appreciated the good quality tea, coffee bags and biscuits which are the hallmark of a thoughtful and welcoming host. Towels and tea towels are provided but bring your own beach towels. The bed on its little gallery is comfortable but we found moving the rolling steps to and fro in order to cook then wash up a bit of a faff, be aware they are quite heavy with steel handrails and glass panels. We knew about this arrangement, and it wouldn't put us off staying here again. No outside space of course, which we also knew about, but the quiet beach is adjacent and is one of our favourites on the Lizard. The Five Pilchards pub, which in the past has done good pub food, has closed down and is for sale but we had a great meal at the beach café next door. I know people rave about the Fat Apples café just up the lane but every time we went past we had just missed it being open. It shuts promptly at 5 pm. Our dog enjoyed staying here and we were glad she couldn't get up the steep steps and attempt to climb onto the bed to find us, which she sometimes does in an unfamiliar house. She had to stay in her own dog bed. She knew where we were and could see us so she was content. This was a definite plus for us.

A lovely place to stay in Cornwall.
Situated in very rural countryside and close to both coasts (approx 15 mins). The layout of the property is nice; all on one level (apart from a couple of separate small steps) so very accessible. Cosy lounge and log burner (could do with clarity on log supply - is it limited or as needed?) - we had one refill of logs but were left without on our last night. Lovely kitchen diner which was well equipped. Outside is enclosed once the gates are shut which meant we could let the dogs out without any worry. The wire on the gates could do with replacing as thereâs quite a few rusty ends sticking out at the latch end. The review has only three stars solely because the double bedroom is damp (the rest of the property is really nice). When we arrived the room smelled damp and musty and the smell didnât really dissipate during our stay. We found that anything in contact with the walls at the back of the room got wet (suitcase and dog crate / dog bedding) and the bed itself felt slightly damp. This was only evident in this one room but obviously impacts on your stay being one of the main rooms you use. The bathroom needs a bit of tlc - some cracked and / or missing tiles but everything works well. The information pack could also do with a bit of an update / tidy up. Would we stay here again? Yes if we knew the bedroom damp had been resolved.

The water in the bath was very slow to run out when you took a shower due to the mechanical plug hardly opening, so that you were standing in a couple of inches of water by the time you finished.
The handle on the shower screen was also loose. My only other criticism is that the bath towels were far too small. You should be able to comfortably wrap a bath towel around your waist (Iâm 38 inch). These were child sizes. Some may think Iâm picky; just my opinion! Other than these minor points, the cottage was fine, with a good view from the sun room, was centrally heated, had a log burner (which we didnât use), had a comfortable bed and a well equipped kitchen. TV and Wi-Fi internet were ok, and TV in the bedroom was a bonus. We were able to park right outside which was great. We were informed by Sykes cottages that the owners would meet us on arrival at 5pm to give us the keys. This wasnât the case. On arrival the key was just left in the outside door lock, for us to let ourselves in. As we left at 4.30am on our last day, we never met or had any dealings with the owners. The cost of the cottage for the week was good value for the time of year (mid Feb), and it is well placed for visiting Hayle, Helston, St Ives, Penzance and the surrounding areas. If asked would I stay there again, the answer would be âyesâ.

We discovered Coverack the previous year and were keen to return to this quaint part of Cornwall. The house is situated on the coastal path with stunning views of the sea and surrounded by lush vegetation. The private decking area in front of the house is an absolute gem: a riot of flowers, the sound of waves lapping and seagulls swooping above and below, a wonderful place to soak up the sun or have a lively family meal. The house itself is extremely comfortable and imaginatively furnished with every amenity a guest could possibly want whilst the views from almost every window are stunning. The village shop has absolutely everything and the Paris Inn served an excellent birthday meal for our eldest son. The paddle boarding was great and the park not only perfect for little ones but with the most amazing vista. If you want a sandy beach keep an eye on low tide times and parking isn't a problem if you arrive early or late. I cannot recommend both the house and Cornwall Hideaways highly enough.

The cottage was really lovely, in a great area, really cosy and it felt very homely to us. The terrace, although it only had a slight view of the sea, was lovely to sit at in the morning and was a real sun trap. The bedroom was cosy, and the kitchen was relatively well equipped. The showers were very small, but in such a small place it is the best available option. Unfortunately, despite general cleanliness, there were heaps of dog hairs around the whole cottage, especially in the bedroom. Although this was a slight annoyance to us, it would be far from ideal for somebody with an allergy. The cottage was very close to the harbour, with a maximum 5 minute walk to the furthest pub. Overall, we had a really lovely stay, and we would definitely return.
