Guests consistently praise the cottage's quiet, central location in Kirkcudbright, its comfort, and well-equipped nature. The property is described as clean, with a lovely garden and thoughtful touches from the host, including a welcome basket. While one review mentioned difficulty with the shower, the overall sentiment is highly positive, with guests eager to return.
Reviews frequently mention the property's cleanliness, indicating high standards maintained by the host. One review specifically notes the property as 'very clean,' supporting a near-perfect score.
The location is universally acclaimed for being central yet quiet, with easy access to local shops, museums, and galleries. The property's position is ideal for exploring Kirkcudbright on foot, justifying a perfect score.
Guests find the cottage comfortable, with one review highlighting 'beds you never want to get up from.' The overall comfort level is highly regarded, though the mention of steep stairs suggests a slight deduction for accessibility.
The property is well-equipped, with one review mentioning it as 'the best equipped self-catering cottage' they've visited. However, a single review points out difficulty operating the shower, indicating a minor issue with facilities.
Several reviews mention thoughtful gestures, such as a welcome basket with treats, which guests appreciated. While these gestures are warmly received, it is noted that such personal touches, though likely, are not guaranteed.
A delightfully situated small traditional town house once owned by the artist E A Hornel, one of "The Glasgow Boys" and situated in a quiet but central location in the Artists' Town of Kirkcudbright. The house is an ideal base from which to explore the area.
Within a short walking distance are the Harbour and Marina, MacLellan's Castle, Broughton House and Garden (National Trust for Scotland) and the historic Tolbooth with its gallery. There are several other art galleries and major exhibitions are regularly held in the town. The well-known Summer Festivities run throughout the summer and one is never short of things to do in and around the town. There are superb sandy beaches within easy reach, numerous golf courses, a swimming pool and wonderful walking and cycling country in this unspoilt area. Children are very welcome.

Great 2 bedroomed house full of character. Lovely basket of goodies when we arrived. Very friendly owner who lived next door. Bedrooms and bathroom are on the second floor. Living room on the middle floor and kitchen and dining room on the ground floor. Lovely quiet secluded garden area to sit out in. Very clean and stocked with every useful piece of equipment that you need. Would definitely stay there again. Situated in the middle of town but the road outside was not busy. Could walk to the local shops. Lots of history.

We really enjoyed our week at 57 High Street. The house is charming, the garden is a great place to sit out, and the location is perfect for all the museums and galleries in Kirkcudbright. The owner, Liz, is very welcoming and helpful and the whole mood of our stay was very relaxed. The fact that the accommodation is spread over three floors with steep stairs would obviously make the property a challenge for some people but that's just part of the house's character. It would benefit from a shower though!

Absolutely spot on, accommodation, location and especially the host were 10 out of 10.
