This ex-mining town made a name for itself through the slate it produced and it has been said that this was 'the town that roofed the world'. Remnants of this past are still evident across the town; from two, still functioning, mines to the Llechwedd Slate Caverns where you can see what life of a quarryman is like. There are plenty of paths allowing you to explore the area by foot, and of course, there are plenty of activities on offer in Snowdonia.

The Ffestiniog and West Highlands Railway offers a chance to step back in time on a 40 mile journey through Snowdonia. These well maintained steam trains hark back to a time gone by and offer a relaxing journey as well as a chance to learn a little more about Snowdonia's past. The rest of Snowdonia's unspoilt countryside is filled with winding footpaths and lush rolling hills. It's a breath of fresh air from the hubbub of daily life.
