  Our recent stay at Aspen Lodge in Whitby was nothing short of extraordinary.

  Nestled in a serene location near The Stables at Cross Butts, the lodge offers the perfect blend of tranquility and charm. Thoughtfully designed, it boasted cosy interiors that made it feel like a home away from home. Waking up each morning to the soft glow of the sunrise filtering through the windows was a daily delight, making it hard to leave the comfort of the bed. Location-wise, Aspen Lodge is unbeatable. The proximity to The Stables was a unique and enchanting aspect of the stay. This location offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The surrounding area is a treasure trove of natural beauty, with scenic trails and coastal views just a short distance away. Now, let’s talk about the food and drink at The Stables – absolutely top-notch! Every meal was a culinary delight, showcasing the best of local produce. Breakfasts were hearty and wholesome, perfect for setting you up for a day of exploration. Dinners were a gourmet experience, with dishes that could easily rival those of a high-end restaurant. Paired with a carefully curated selection of wines, each meal was an indulgence that left me looking forward to the next.   The accommodation as lovely as it is and in a great setting often felt like you were on a building site.

  It is not made clear that the site is not yet completed and ongoing development continues to include tarmac surfacing to the main entrance, drilling and ongoing construction work. I had to request coat hangers as only 2 were in the wardrobe- the owner was prompt at providing lots more the following day. The seal in the shower was faulty so we were not able to use this, again I informed the owner of this. Lighting on the site is poor at night and the current lighting doesn’t seem adequate, we arrived at night and really struggled navigating the lodge in the dark. It would also have been helpful to have bins closer to the lodges - the current arrangements are at the entrance gate. This site was great for accessing the park and ride service which is a 5 minute walk away. The lodges are well equipped and clean and it is nice that dogs are welcome. I would like to revisit when the site is fully complete - the views and scenery are stunning and from our lodge we could see Whitby Abbey a good base for a break near Whitby.

  We’ve had a lovely 2 night break in Willow lodge.

  The lodge itself has everything you could need and is immaculately clean. The beds were very comfortable and the water pressure and temperature in the showers was great. Fresh towels and crisp bedding provided. The location is fantastic, a couple of miles from the centre of Whitby and a short walk to a great pub. There is a park and ride and petrol station close by. We really enjoyed the hot tub, which again was immaculately clean and set to a great temperature for arrival. A clothes horse or retracing line to hang wet towels would be useful, also additional hot tub towels. We brought our own so not an issue for us. Not a negative, just some feedback which may help the owners keep the lodge in its best condition. We will definitely return…this place is a real gem!!

  What a hidden gem. Stunning location on a quiet and welcoming complex. Right under the Larpool Viaduct. The cottage had everything you needed to make it a real home from home. Hot shower. Really comfy mattress. Cosy as. Watched the ducks and squirrels as we ate our meals. The swimming pool was an added bonus and swam there every day. You do have to pay £20 a week but it was worth every penny as at times it was just us two. And I'm sure it costs lots to heat. Easy access to all beauty spots. Whitby (Try the Magpie cafe), Whitby Abbey and brewery, Scarborough, the Cinder track, the steam trains, Staithes and Robin Hoods Bay. Just fabulous. A large Sainsburys is a 5 min drive. Aldi too. We highly recommend staying in this beautiful cosy cottage.

  We had the best stay at Stag Lodge, from a bottle of Prosecco waiting for us to Caroline answering any questions promptly.

  The lodge was beautifully decorated, warm and cosy! We loved the luxury of a hot tub, with a secluded area making it private as well as the use of the door to stop our dog from going too far out of sight! Our only feedback was that some chicken wire be added to the fences so smaller dogs can’t escape. Our dog didn’t attempt this which was good, but to fully relax, it would be an easy solution (which Caroline has already messaged to say she is going to do.) We will definitely be rebooking here. The location was brilliant and the fact our lodge wasn’t surrounded by others made it so peaceful - just what we needed! Thank you for letting us stay!
