What our customers say about their holidays

We had a wonderful weekend!
I was the 'chief booker' so I asked my friends and family to tell me what they thought so I could give an accurate review and this is what they had to say:- "What a fantastic venue for our friends and family weekend. A most beautiful house and garden with everything we needed for a brilliant weekend; from super kitchen and dining facilities making it easy to cater for the 12 of us. The super hot tub was a great bonus and was enjoyed by us all. A weekend to remember thank you." "What a lovely property- fabulous for friends / family get together- spacious bedrooms, large living area, lovely and clean with everything you could need. Beautiful spacious garden- would highly recommend for a get together." "A superb rental property, ideally suited for large groups. Lots of space for everyone, so we never got in each otherâs ways; extremely well equipped; delightful, extensive garden space. Cannot recommend highly enough." "Fabulous, large, well equipped house. The garden was simply amazing as was the hot tub." I booked this house because it was a central location for all of us and it looked to have plenty of room for 12 of us and it did not disappoint! There were plenty of bathrooms, plenty of little areas where people could go and chill out if they wanted to, and the big room at the back with the vaulted ceiling was fabulous - we spent most of our time in there. We loved the well-equipped kitchen - trying out cooking on the aga was great fun - we also enjoyed a takeaway that we had delivered on the Friday night. The garden was awesome. If you have got children and the weather is nice they will just LOVE it. As everyone else said, we also really enjoyed a dip in the hot tub - what a treat. Loads of space, lovely house and a great location just off the A1 but not that you would know it, it was so peaceful. Also very reassuring to know that the house manager was just across the road should we have needed him (which we didn't). There was plenty of parking for all of us, too. Highly recommended for a friends and family gathering."

Facilities inside the cottage were generally very good.
The furthest back bedroom lacked a bedside cabinet which was quite irksome as there was nowhere for me to put my glasses and phone at night. Even a small shelf would be useful here. Heating was good although I had to manually turn down the temperature before going to bed as it seemed otherwise to run all night with the associated noise from the expanding and contracting pipes/floorboards. The large fridge in the kitchen was excellent as was the milk and loaf - a nice touch and appreciated. The tumble dryer filter had apparently not been cleaned for a long time, and was completely filled with fluff, to the point of being a potential fire hazard. I cleaned it but we eventually did not use the washing facilities after all! But having both a washing machine and dryer available was excellent. We figured out how to use the TV/Sky Box in the downstairs lounge which was fine for the amount we used it. Parking is a huge issue - but probably not much you can do about it. If we wanted to return to the cottage during the day for more than 30 minutes we were stuck, as finding a parking space anywhere near the cottage was all but impossible. And we had to leave by 08:30am if parked outside or just hope the traffic warden hadn't been down that street yet. Twice I got a parking space over the road - luxury! Would we return? The lack of parking would be a deterrent, but the cottage was very good.

This is a well equipped cottage nicely kitted out inside with just about everything you need.
The house is like a tardis with plenty of space inside including a huge impressive bathroom with some quirky art work, and a good sized dining room. The near by Cresswell crags is a great place to visit. One of the reasons we picked this property was for the enclosed garden to let our dog into in the morning. Unfortunately we could not let the dog out off lead as there is an un-gated passageway leading straight onto the road. We ended up taking the dog a short way up the road every day to where there is a large grass verge and a pooh bin. The biggest problem with the property was the heating which is controlled with an app by the owner. The heating is set to 19 degrees and is on from 4pm to 10pm in the evening. I spent the whole week wearing 2 jumpers in the house and feeling progressively colder in the evenings after the heating had gone off. It was particularly cold in the bathroom. There is a large 6kw decorative gas fire in the lounge, however it is extremely inefficient allowing most of the heat to go up the chimney rather than into the room. I dread to think how much it costs to run, I am sure it would have been cheaper to turn up the central heating! We were there at the beginning of April when overnight temperatures were down to zero on a couple of days. If you go in the summer you should not have those problems and should enjoy a very pleasant stay.

Whilst the bathroom is really well appointed a few things would improve it to make it more user friendly.
When using the bath there is nowhere to put a tablet of soap, shampoo etc. so a dish or bath rack should be provided . In addition there were no handrails provided to assist in getting in or out of the bath. The walk in shower was nice but the glass side panel is too short and it was impossible to use the shower without soaking the floor. The floor was not designed to be a wet floor because there was no floor drain installed so some consideration should be given to better containment of the water from this shower. I would also point out that the shower base was completely flat with no anti-slip grooves or pimples in the surface which made it very slippery. Finally the towel rails were unheated and we therefore had to hang our towels out everyday to dry them off. Fortunately it was very hot and sunny so they dried perfectly but they definitely would not have dried had we left them in the bathroom without heating. On a couple of evenings, after a really hot day, the temperature dropped suddenly and it would have been nice to have had some means of heating in the lounge. All in all we enjoyed our stay but I'm not sure that we would whole heartedly recommend the cottage to our friends which is a true test of how we felt about it

Lovely holiday with our tween and teen.
Just over an hour to the Peak District, did archery and air rifle at the tournament ground in Blythe, pony trekking at Derbyshire pony trekking 10 mins away, Bolsover castle, you could walk to Creswell crags but book early if you want to go in the caves as it was fully booked when we came. Cottage had everything we needed although a bigger saucepan might have been handy. Be careful with the kettle as the steam is very close to your hand - we used the oven glove. Kids woke at 6.39 most mornings as they could hear neighbours through the wall. We woke to lovely bright sunshine every morning (bring a mask if you like it dark). We snuggled under a blanket in the evenings and wished weâd brought slippers although it clearly says we could have put the heating on if weâd wanted to - it didnât warrant that but there was a chill. Bring or buy dish washer tablets but everything else provided. Was a 10-15 min walk to the local co op and fish and chips shop. Didnât meet the owner but didnât need to. We had a lovely week in the cottage. Kind housekeeper found our daughterâs mask under the pillow and owner arranged for it to be posted back to us- really appreciated.
