What our customers say about their holidays

This was our first stay at The Bay village and our first stay in Filey.
We had a wonderful holiday and would recommend it to anyone. When we arrived at the cottage we were really pleased. It was really clean, quiet and bigger than we had thought it would be. It had everything we needed to enjoy our holiday including an ironing board & iron, hairdryers and a really good shower! The only downsides of the cottage were that the double bed was really small and not very comfortable so we had a few sleepless nights which resulted one of us moving to the sofa. The blinds in the bedrooms were also thin so it was very light when you woke up in the morning. There was also some damp around the property on the walls. This didn't affect our holiday but something for the owners to be aware of. The outside space was good. We shared it with many other houses which was nice for the kids to have space to play and also to play with other children. The only downside is that if you have a dog, there is no enclosed space to let them out so you have to keep an eye on them, but that's not the end of the world. The village itself is lovely. Very clean and quiet with a cafe, shop and pub. The pub is ok but gets very busy and as you are unable to pre-book, there can be a bit of a wait for a table. There is also a leisure centre - we used the pool a couple of times. The cottage is only a short walk down to the beach (and when I say down I mean down). There is quite a steep slope down to the beach. If you turn right and walk down the beach, there is a lovely little beach cafe up on the hill that I highly recommend for a coffee and cake. I recommend this cottage. We would stay again or would look to stay in another cottage on the same sight.

This was out 3rd visit to The Bay but our first time in Bayside.
I was travelling with my daughter and two grandchildren of 2 and a half and 6 months. When you enter Bayside there's a spacious hallway with a very useful shoe rack and space for 2 open buggies! There's a downstairs toilet with another shoe rack and lots of space for things like cool bags. Towels are provided but if there's 4 of you it might be an idea to take a hand towel for the downstairs toilet. On the right is the spacious lounge / dining area / kitchen with French doors out onto a patio with table and 4 chairs and then a huge grass area which is safe for playing on. From the hallway you go left up stairs to a good sized landing and the two bedrooms. There's a cupboard off the landing with loads of space for suitcases etc. My daughter had the double room with the travel cot that was provided. It was a bit of a squeeze getting that in but after moving the bed a bit it worked ok. There's a big walk-in wardrobe off this room which could do with a light - maybe one of those you press and they go off after a while? They run on batteries I think. I shared the twin room with my oldest granddaughter. The beds were ok. they're a good 3' width but would benefit from new mattresses. A word to the owner - remember it's not always children that sleep in these beds! My daughter said the double bed was comfy and she's quite fussy!! :) This holiday park is great, with lots of facilities and a lovely walk down to a beautiful beach with nothing on it except sand and sea.

Great cottage, spacious and comfortable.
Mattresses were good and comfortable. Parking on street was never a problem and it is close to pubs, tea room, food shop. Mostly the kitchen, which was very nice with a large oven and hob, was well equipped. But if I have to be picky I'd say they need to provide more than one Tea towel for a week, a pair of oven gloves and some bin liners. Also two bedrooms have no hanging storage so that was awkward at times. A few hooks and hangers in both bedrooms would have been good to hang dresses etc. If two people are sharing the twin room, one small set of drawers with some of the handles missing is not enough storage. Put some hooks on the wall perhaps. It states on the description the cottage is a 'stones throw' away from the sea, so I took that to mean I could walk it, you can't! I wish I'd checked the map before booking. It's a misleading description and Sykes need to take that wording out. The cottage is deceptional and is larger than it looks. It's probably not suitable for the very elderly or anyone with walking difficulties as it has one or two steep steps in the kitchen and dining room and a few smaller ones too. Generally it was clean and well equipped and I would recommend it.

Courtyard cottage is absolutely lovely itâs very spacious and has everything anyone could possibly need to have a wonderful holiday.
My only slight criticism (as this is more an error on my part because I perhaps should have asked this question of Sykes upon booking) is that the cottage does have a number of steps inside the property going between the rooms that werenât mentioned in the description. One particularly large step that caused a bit of an issue with one of our party who has accessibility problems is the one between the kitchen and the dining room which is the access to the stairs up to the bedrooms - my recommendation would be for the owners to consider installing a handrail to assist people like my sister in future so they donât have any issues. My fault entirely for not checking upon booking but it was quite a large step and I did feel it should be mentioned as I had to help her up and down it safely so she didnât fall. I chose the property because of the open showers due to her accessibility issues so it was a shame to then have steps inside that we werenât expecting but it is a lovely cottage and I would absolutely recommend it for a lovely well kept accommodation.

We would highly recommend the Bayside Cottage.
It is spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated throughout with lovely furnishings. The whole cottage is bright and sunny with a fresh nautical theme throughout and lovely clean carpeting. Pristine condition. We felt we had lots of space to move around and WC facilities on both floors was handy. It was definitely home from home and we wanted for nothing. There was a kitchen welcome pack and a tea/coffee and biscuits welcome pack which was very much appreciated. There was a hand sanitizer dispenser in the hall and soap dispensers in the bathrooms. The owner was pleasant and helpful to deal with on the telephone when I had a query prior to our stay. We didn't use the onsite leisure facilities such as the pool because we were using the cottage as a base from which to house hunt, rather than for a holiday. We are assured that the site facilities are excellent however. We managed to visit onsite pub and shop once which were perfect with friendly staff. A lovely experience from start to finish. 5 stars.
