What our customers say about their holidays
Kerry - Verified booking
Lovely, warm and cosy period cottage with traditional features but all modern conveniences, including Nespresso coffee machine.
Lovely quality crockery, cutlery etc and sharp kitchen knives, which are so often lacking. Comfortable bed. It was just two of us so we used the first floor bedroom and generously sized shower room, but there was another double and a single room on the second floor with a bathroom with a bath. Bed linen was good quality. Good access to internet and Smart TV apps and lovely, easy to use, gas fire to take the chill off when necessary. Appreciated the bottle of bubbly and initial supply of milk, tea bags, coffee capsules, dishwasher tablets and wash capsules (a second kitchen bin liner would have been useful). Like others we found the car park space tight, especially when the neighbouring space is occupied. My hatchback is described as compact by its manufacturer but at most it's small mid-sized, but it was a squeeze and you have to reverse in or you can't get out of the car. If we had been more than two plus a small dog and driven a larger car we wouldn't have been able to use the space. The ground floor area of the cottage is lovely, but again, we were only two and it would have been tight for space with 4 adults. Very easy walking distance of everything in town. We particularly liked the Dart Cafe as the dog was warmly welcomed. We drove to Brixham via the lower ferry, and went to Kingswear as foot passengers to ride the steam train and back. Easy access to the South Coast Path on a good day too.

We were very disappointed with the cleanliness of the bathrooms, bedroom surfaces and kitchen utensils.
The sofa is grubby and the arms upholstery is very tired. On departure when we stripped the beds one of the single beds mattress protector was very unpleasant. Although we tried to call both carbis and Sykes offices to report these issues the phones continually cut us off. We had to go to the office on the first morning of our holiday to report these issues but do not think they were resolved satisfactorily. The Welcome cream tea no longer exists and a voucher for £4 to spend in St Ives as itâs alternative is not in our opinion an equivalent option for 4 people. As we had previously stayed in this apartment we were aware of the day guest passes for the Spa at the Carbis Bay Hotel that were offered to guests in this apartment. We found the voucher readily available again in the Information folder so were very surprised to find that it is no longer applicable. There was no assistance nor compromise over this issue which we find to be gross misrepresentation. We were only told that it was the housekeeperâs fault for not removing it. As you can imagine we do not think that the level of service is up to our expectations based on the previous visit nor is relative to the cost charged. We feel further consideration of these issues is required.

I have attempted twice to contact owner prior to giving feedback to Sykes.
On departure day we searched around to look for owner to inform him of the issues we were concerned about and we also left a letter on the table in Muncaster View. I have today sent a text but to no avail. The following issues were of concern to us: 1. The shower tray did not drain (first bedroom opposite front door) 2. Mixer tap in kitchen area was coming away from its base and we were worried that it might come away altogether and cause flooding 3. Only 1 window could be opened in the property. All the others were sealed shut. 4. The telly was far too small for the size of room and far too high on the wall. We were unable to view the screen properly and could not read the subtitles as the screen was so high up. 5. The freezer compartment of the fridge was dirty. 6. The open fire despite having lots of coal and kindling didnât have any paper to light it. 7. Toilet seat in second bedroom was very loose and could have caused injury. We both feel that the amount of money paid for 3 nights for a cottage with so many problems was very overpriced.

Our stay at Halcyon Cove has been perfect.
The apartment was very clean, bright and spacious. It was lovely to arrive to milk and juice in the fridge and a packet of biscuits along with a welcome pack. Very thoughtful. The views are amazing and it was lovely to sit on the terrace and watch the boats go by, as well as searching for dolphins. Halcyon cove is about a 3 minute walk to the train station which is about a 4 minute ride into St Ives. Itâs is also perfectly situated to use as a base to see visit many of the beautiful areas around south Cornwall. We particularly loved, Godrevy, where we saw loads of seals on the beach, The Minack Theatre, and Kynance Cove. Porthmoer beach cafe does the best breakfast ever and is a perfect spot to sit and watch the surfers. If I had to pick any faults with my stay it would be that I found the bed very hard and the invisible glass table caught me out (thankfully it is made of toughed glass) so we had to move it. That said, it would not put me off returning to this beautiful apartment and we are already looking at booking again next year.

Our Weeks stay at Ty Conwy was a comfortable stay, The decor was very well done.
It was a nice staging post for seeing the sites around parts of North Wales & the hot tub at the property was a real bonus & a great thing to have. We did have a couple of issues, we had trouble with the tv, netflicks stopped working & we could not get the BBC channels, I called the owner, Adam & he told me a previous guest back in July had messed up the system, he did tell me how to fix the problem, I filled his instructions, but for me they did not work, so it was a bit of inconvenience, but I did have my own netflicks on my laptop so we could watch it through the tv & we could watch the BBC channels through the BBC Iplayer. All the windows in the house could have done with a good clean, especially the front one in the lounge as the dirt was highlighted when the sun came around in the late afternoon, there were also cobwebs on the outside & inside of the patio doors & cobwebs on the back of the dining table on the left-hand side & they had all been there for a while, so that was a bit of a letdown
