What our customers say about their holidays
Ross - Verified booking
We stayed in March, and it was advertised as having an open fire, which had been blocked off.
It was part of the reason for us booking it. In May it was still advertised as with open fire. We had no explanation or apology. The boiler casing was off when we arrived, which Iâd consider a H&S issue, the thermostat wasnât working and it was really loud, couldnât hear the TV. So it was a cold first night. We left for two days and it was all repaired. Needing a new part, the noise was something to do with the fan, but as that was £300 it wasnât done, apparently. We then ran out of gas overnight. This was rectified on the following day. It had rained a lot, and the parking and access to the property is a grass verge, it was just a massive puddle of mud. The dishwasher wasnât switched on, the plug was way behind the cooker and needed a long mop handle to reach it and switch it on, which was awkward. The kettle was filled with lime scale, the cutlery were few and a lot with rust, knives were all dull with no sharpener, some basics lacking, like a tin opener. Thereâs extremely few basics in the cupboard - the herbs there are are literally from the 1980s. The owner was polite and quick to deal with issues when raised, but in knowing we were arriving, the boiler really should have been fixed and operational. Two nights cold wasnât pleasant, never mind the other aspects.

If you are looking for a quiet and cosy retreat, then this is just the cottage for you.
Very quiet indeed, with around 3 vehicles a day driving past, 4 on Tuesdays when the bin lorry visits. The solid fuel central heating does take a little while to master, but it does make the whole place feel very warm and snug. Our stay coincided with Storm Babet and the cottage remained cosy and comfortable whilst the storm was raging outside. Tom, the owner came round to check that we were OK and that we had enough food. We were, and we did. But that was a very considerate gesture. Thank you Tom. Apart from just enjoying the tranquil surroundings, there's plenty of places to visit all within an easy drive. A walk along the beach from Low Newton to Dunstanburgh Castle was one of the highlights for us. Berwick-upon-Tweed is a lovely place, as is dog friendly Melrose with its Abbey and the fantastic Trimontium Museum. If you don't want to travel that far, then there are some stunning walks around Ford and Etal, just a few minutes away. We would recommend the delicious cheese scones at Boes cafe. All in all, a wonderful relaxing break.

A comfortable, well equipped home apart from too small a fridge for 4 adults and for our 11 nights stay, difficult keeping our drinks cold!
but managed and a visit to Richmond for food midweek was possible. As all are used to a dishwasher having none made clearing up after a family meal a bit of a chore however view from kitchen window was enjoyable and a routine was established. We and our dog Mac enjoyed the many walks from the front door and the ability to walk to the local pubs and restaurant ,a peaceful relaxing stay with wonderful views of the countryside and especially enjoyed the woodburner, while eating our meals or sitting chatting in the lounge . We appreciated that the owner was available if needed and knew the area well.We had a lovely Christmas & New Year family get-together, thank you for the care and attention to detail you have put into T'Other End,Arkle Town House, the Christmas tree and welcome box was appreciated ,Best wishes for a great 2024.

Absolutely perfect.
This is a beautiful cottage, the furnishings were lovely, bed super comfortable and it was absolutely spotlessly clean. The garden is a wonderful spot to sit out and admire the surrounding countryside. Easy walk to the local pub for a drink and a short drive to the next village where the pub serves fabulous food. This cottage was a great base to explore the area and all it had to offer and I would highly recommend. The additional touches such as welcome pack shows how much thought the owner puts in to making it a lovely place to stay. To anyone thinking of staying in the area this is a gemâ¦.parking too!

Cottage as described and in a nice location, but could benefit from a little updating and a good clean inside .
It was peacefull and quiet and Tom the owner met us on arrival and explained everything and is a nice friendly man.The limescale kettle was still there but did not put us off ,we did not use the washing machine or dishwasher ,the power p lug sockets were difficult to acess but as this is an old cottage this was taken into account and was not a problem .Ths shower was working but dont expect a power shower. The enclose area was great for out two Doxies and safe .We spent most days along the coast and a couple of visits to the red lion pub. As expected in theese parts everyone was friendly and helpfull.
