What our customers say about their holidays
Miss Crossland - Verified booking
This is a lovely apartment in a great location. Don't let first impressions (the communal entrance hall) put you off, it is clean and cosy once you get inside. Previous issues mentioned in reviews have been resolved, (the scaffolding is no longer there and the sofa has been cleaned). Despite being in a huge building which contains a pub and a chinese restaurant, it is very quiet and you would never know they were there. The location is great - very quiet and an easy walk into Whitby, close to Staithes, Sandsend, Robin Hoods Bay, Runswick Bay etc and the beach is directly across the road. It is perfect for dog owners! The only disappointment was that it lacks the added extras that would make this feel like luxury accommodation and it doesn't give the impression that you are particularly valued as a customer. There is no welcome pack, no toiletries and not a single bauble to be seen, (I was there for the whole of Christmas and New Year - all of the other holiday lets that I could see were decorated for Christmas). The bathroom is a DIY disaster but clean! All in all, a good property, I would stay again if I was heading to that area.

The good: - Great location for Malham and the Pennine Way - Lots of space in living areas and two of the bedrooms - Clean The bad: - Lacking some basics (scissors in the kitchen; saucepans big enough to cook basics for 4) - Very small and compromised bathrooms - In poor state of repair in places (large glass shower door held on with silicone, and fell off; bad smell from drains; TVs in bedrooms not working) - Layout of outdoor space leads to a total lack of privacy in garden (which is shared with the neighbouring cottage). For example, the Hot Tub is placed just a few feet from the one belonging to the neighbouring cottage, meaning no privacy if the neighbours use theirs at the same time. (Especially so if you have neighbours who spend their time smoking, drinking, swearing, shouting and arguing in the hot tub!) We eventually cut our stay short and came home a day early. The owner did offer a partial refund, reflecting some of these issues, but this has never materialised and he has since stopped answering messages asking him to honour his promises.

Disappointed that I wasn’t told about the scaffolding to the apartment two weeks before we arrived you should state on the website about the scaffolding of the building before booking as it disturbed us a lot waking my dog up in the morning and us as well constants banging which was very destructive when your trying to relax on holiday. In the photo when booking it shows that you have a bottle of wine/ champagne on arrival this was not available to us. The door of the bathroom catch was broken. The cleanliness of the apartment was incredible no complaints at all it was lovely. We was told it would be easy to find parking had to call on arrival where to park was told bay 3 which turned out to be the wrong parking space so we could have gotten charge for that so my finance had to move his car. Overall not very pleased with the building but location was lovely and cleanliness of the apartment absolutely amazing.

Lovely property with some amazing features. Fantastic location for the town and the beach in Whitby. The kitchen is really well equipped and has everything you need. I was worried about there being the bar/entertainment venue in the building, but you don't really notice. The metropole building itself isn't in the best condition, but you only have to use the entrance to access the property inside. The car parking space is right outside the window alongside the property and there is plenty of room for all residents to park even with slightly larger cars. The only negatives for us were the bed - it needs a new mattress, this one was somewhat uncomfortable. And the cleanliness could have been better, it was a bit dusty in areas. But I would stay again if we were to come to Whitby.

We love this cottage, have stayed twice now and have rebooked for next year. It’s a no frills, practical, warm, clean cottage with everything you need and just a short stroll along the estuary to the town and beaches. The beds are comfortable, bedding and towels are good quality and there is a well equipped kitchen. There are throws to put on the sofa if you have a pet, and dog bowls are provided. There are also beach toys for children. The cottage does involve steps so not good if you have any mobility issues and parking is a gamble on the road but it is free parking if you manage to find a space, which is a bonus! Around the corner is a fabulous fruit/veg wholesalers who also sell to the public, it was also brilliant for the day to day bits we needed, milk, bread, eggs etc.
