What our customers say about their holidays

This is a superb property, one of the best I ever stayed in.
It's quiet (there is another house between this one and the road; access is through a passage). Someone went to a lot of trouble and expense making it so lovely. The living room and main bedroom are surprisingly large. The garden area is very pleasant (though the photo on the webpage doesn't do it justice). I think the best thing was the shower in the main bedroom, it was magnificent -- pipes and handles and knobs galore (and seemed new, designed to be an Edwardian thowback I suppose). I only have three complaints. First, the bed in the smaller bedroom had a rock-hard mattress: OK for children but my daughter (in her mid-twenties) ended up sleeping on the living room sofa. Second, the kettle in the kitchen didn't work right, switched itself off when the water in it was nowhere near boiling. We had to run it three or four times in succession to make it hot enough to make tea. And third, one of the light switches in the living room didn't work (the one controlling the recess lights over the kitchen countertop.) But everything else was great: the Aga worked fine, the tv was fantastic, the water pressure was excellent. I have no other complaints at all, really excellent.

My wife and I visited for a week in November having never visited the area before.
The cottage was spotlessly clean, very comfortable for up to four people with plenty of space and seating. It was well-equipped with large smart TV and a well set out kitchen area. Outside is ample, if slightly tight width wise, off road parking, off a very quiet residential road. With the exception of a couple of very minor maintenance issues, which the owners wouldn't have been aware of and which have been quickly rectified, I would find it hard to find any fault with the cottage which was warm and cosy and more than lived up to our expectations. One thing to bear in mind about Torquay is that it is very hilly, that applies to wherever you stay in the town. The previous reviews mention the climb from the harbour area, which though it isn't far in distance, is extremely steep in places, we are both reasonably fit but still found it fairly taxing so worth bearing in mind if mobility is an issue. The advantage of the climb are the lovely views across the bay whilst catching your breath! A fantastic area to explore with stunning coastal walks on the doorstep, a lovely holiday.

Lisa & Darryl, You have a really beautiful house, very nicely decorated and so peaceful and quiet.
We loved our stay in Torquay and wished we had more time there. Yes the property is central for getting around and once youâve walked down and back again, it does get easier. Very good exercise, did great on my Fitbit watch. We also visited the Tourist Information ladies, they are great and gave us lots of ideas. We found the bus stops for the number 64 bus, to take us back up the hill. But never actually caught the bus, never seemed to be in the right place. Found it so easy to leave the car at the house and travel on the local buses, we travelled all over the place. Just head to the harbour and youâll see all the bus stops. Did the Round Robin Trip, a great day out. Also Babbacombe is a lovely place and you can visit Bygones and a Model Village. Both attractions are worth a visit. A very minor criticism for the property, is the driveway. We have a Kia Sportage and If the lovely planters could move a fraction towards the bins, it would make it easier for bigger cars. We would certainly stay at this gorgeous property again.

This chalet was way over priced and nof a very low standard.
The kitchen was in need of all new cupboards and drawers and the sofa needs replacing. The coffee table was covered in scratches and wobbled. You can't put any milk in the fridge over a 2 pint carton in the door unless you remove the shelves and tray. The double bed is too small for an average height adult. I'm only 5ft8 and my legs hung over the bottom of the bed. There is no storage or shelves in the bathroom or towel rail, it is very poor. The windows were filthy and and the drawers in the bedroom were full of hairs and bits of things I can't describe. The inside of the kettle was peeling away and contained lots of broken plastic that I thankfully didn't swallow. These chalets should not cost more than at least £400. I have photos and video evidence which I will posting to Trip Advisor. The poor quality of the chalet was the low point of our holiday. Also the attitude of the staff is you're staying in basic accomodation so what do you expect. £656 is not basic or cheap payment for accomdation. Very poor.

We loved the cottage and would stay there again.
I had an issue contacting the caretaker, phoning twice on the morning before the day of our arrival and leaving a message but did not get a reply. I had to phone Sykes main office on the morning of our arrival. A few hours later, the caretaker did phone back but the communication was very poor and not reassuring. There are a few electrical issues that the owner should be aware of: 1. The kettle has a fault whereby it turns off well before the water reaches boiling point. One has to wait a few sconds and then flick the switch again. It takes about 4-5 attempts to get it to boil. I suggest it is replaced. 2. The light/dimmer switch for bank of spot lights above the sink area is faulty and these lights cannot be turned on. A replacement switch is required. 3. The lamp on the LHS between the dresser and TV wall does not work. I suspect the ring may have tripped, but did not investigate any further. This means that corner of the room remains very dark.
