What our customers say about their holidays

Just returned from a great break at Engine Room Cottage, Sledmere.
The Cottage is located on the outskirts of the village on the Bridlington Rd. Although a main road the traffic, was minimal and road noise zero. The Cottage is brilliantly furnished and offers 3 separate bathrooms, that was brilliant to our group of 3 couples. Two bedrooms are on the upper floor incorporating en-suite, whilst the third with 2 single beds is on the lower floor with an adjacent bathroom. The lounge/kitchen is of open plan design, with patio doors offering access to limited outdoor seating. The owner was a very obliging individual and couldnât do enough for us, even though located some 50 miles away. The Cottage is superbly kitted out with every utensil you could imagine, games, dvd and books available. We were somewhat limited in having access to Sledmere House as it was closed for the season, but our limited siting gave a desire to return and view at a later date.. We ate in the Triton Inn and I would highly recommend this, with a great selection of food and drinks. We walked through to the other nearest pub/restaurant at Helperthorpe on Saturday afternoon, but were disappointed to discover that both locations didnât open until 6.00pm and an 11 mile walk does give you appetite and thirst. Visited Malton on Friday, the micro pub Brass Castle, well worth a visit. If using Taxis, do some homework as the rates quoted from Sledmere to Malton, varied between £75, £45 & £33. Malton is a lovely visit and I would recommend. Beware of limited parking at the Cottage and we did have s number of issues, but to be fair, it is recommended for 2 cars, but unfortunately we had 3. Overall great location, great faculties, very clean and with a very obliging owner on the end of the phone.

Lovely cottage with everything we needed.
Olly, the owner was very helpful when I messaged him with several queries. The front of the cottage was very dark at night as the outside light didn't work, Olly said he would call out an electrician, but that didn't happen during our stay. It meant I could enjoy the clear skies and stargazing, but was difficult to walk the dog (and pick up after him) as we didn't have a torch. There was no information folder, which would have been useful, as we didn't know much about the area, how to set the heating or what items went into what bin and also didn't realise for the first few days that there was free firewood and kindling in one of the garages. Positives- The cottage was a really good size, the kitchen had everything we needed, there was milk and fizz left for us in the fridge, the soft furnishings were all of very good quality, nice bedding etc. Free firewood and kindling for cold nights. Owners live on site and were very helpful. Good wi-fi connection meant my partner was able to work whilst we were there. Great dog friendly pub directly across the road. Beautiful rural area. Negatives- We found the settee very uncomfortable, too low and not supportive. Poor lighting outside in the manor grounds, making it difficult to let the dog have a short comfort walk when it was dark. It wasn't clear which areas were for walking the dog and which weren't. Also I use a walking stick as I have mobility difficulties and the paddock for dog exercise was inaccessible to me, which wasn't clear when booking. There was a strong smell of paint when we arrived and some areas were dusty. No information book/file.

Wonderful location, accurate and helpful information and excellent value for money.
The cottage is in a beautiful small terrace. The rooms are surprisingly large; with a lovely large kitchen with a good sized table and well stocked cupboards; including things like cafetières and graters which are sometimes not provided. A newly installed bathroom with a good shower was a joy to return to after a dayâs walking. The house is warm and cosy and we didnât need to set a fire, though loved the open fire in the sitting room and the ready supply of logs and coal. The BBQ area for the cottage was in the stunning walled kitchen garden which opened onto a small dry valley paddock which was perfect for morning and evening runs for our dog; before a day running on beaches, on the wolds and on some of the most beautiful walks in England. The owners were very welcoming and are clearly keen to provide home from home comfort and convenience. We will definitely return as we have much still to explore in this spectacular part of England; from a cosy, comfortable and perfectly located holiday cottage.

This is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful location with a delightful host.
The garden is dog-friendly, lovely with plenty of space for outdoor dining and relaxing even with inclement weather. The cottage is clean and fresh with a modern kitchen. The wood-burning stove was fabulous for cosy nights beside the fire and reading. Our daughter made good use of the dining room for studying in the evening. It's so quiet here and the neighbours are very friendly and helpful. The Black Horse serves large pub meals and we ate there frequently, The Farm shop sells eggs as well as homemade jams and chutneys. The location is convenient for exploring the East Riding of Yorkshire. The host Debbie was helpful and communicative and responded to messages immediately. There were fresh flowers on arrival with a welcome pack of tea/coffee/sugar/milk as well as an Easter Egg for our daughter who was delighted. I highly recommend this cottage and encourage you to take advantage of the introductory offer prices because this delightful place won't stay so cheap next year!

What a fantastic little find, we absolutely loved our stay!
Bella's cottage was exactly what we needed for a stay with our 2 dogs: even though there is no private outdoor space, we had the use of the big walled garden just across the yard for our dogs to run around in and explore whilst we could bbq and enjoy a glass of wine in the sunshine. Part of that area is the 'kitchen garden' where Olly grows seasonal fruit and vegetable - and we could help ourselves to anything grown in there. I must have eaten my own body weight in raspberries and strawberries every morning whilst taking the dogs out! One reviewer mentioned that some of the furniture is a little dated and that is true - however, everything is clean and comfortable, so no complaints there. The kitchen is well equipped with all utensils needed and there was even a pint of milk in the fridge for a cup of tea! The area is fabulous with plenty of hikes and the beach just a short drive away. We had an amazing week and will definitely book again if we are in the area!
