What our customers say about their holidays

  • Gabriella - Verified booking

The Lodge looks very modern and very well kept until you get to the property.

It would be a lovley lodge and somewhere to go back to every year when visiting the lakes but the cleanliness and upkeep just wasn't up to our usual holiday standards. From the cleanliness of the whole property (I have photos) to both sets of patio doors not locking (this was also noted in a review from another person staying in September) it does not feel very safe especially with a child to have doors that do not lock. In regards to both sets of doors we had to get maintenance out 2 nights in a row who then had to force them shut and told us not to not use them for the rest of the stay. To the bedding used that must have been that old the poppers to close it had all broken (I have photos) the decking outside as noted in other reviews still hasn't been fixed causing a trip hazard. The hot tub was not emptied before we arrived as I have a photo of it with paper/tissue in still. We had to give the lodge a clean before even starting our holiday which isn't what you expect. Even the shower was not cleaned properly as there was some time of pink product looked like conditioner all in the bottom. If we where staying in a budget friendly property I wouldn't have minded as much but we even had to go out and purchase our own washing up liquid, sponges/cloths, cleaning products and black bags you expect the price we paid to at least have a couple spare. I do believe the lodge could be a lovley place to stay if you kept on top of the repairs even the kitchen bin was broken. This review sounds like I am just complaining for the sake of it but I stay in lodges 3 + times a year and I never have to clean. I would like to send all the photos across for you you see if you can reply to me please. I feel the lodge is in need of a deep clean as the price we paid to stay did not match the property. Thank you

On arrival around 8pm the key was not in the key safe.

after a 6 hour drive with a three year old you don't need that. The fridge was warm as it was set to minimum. The freezer wasn't switched on, so also warm. The dishwasher was broken. The gas cooker hob and oven didn't work. The toilet in the ensuite was blocked. There was so much clutter and tat in the property we had no where to put any of our things. Plates cups etc were dirty. The only hand soap was in the kitchen. There were so many scatter cushions on the beds when you took them off to get in to bed there was nowhere to put them out of the way. The hot tub had no chemicals in it after using it twice the water was dark brown and stank. No effort was made to visit this everyday to check the water and change the filter / add chemical to it. It made our bathing wear stink. There were no instructions how to use that. Or the washing machine, or the dishwasher, or even the heating. The outside gate glass door didn't latch properly and when it was pushed home correctly overnight it opened again and banged in the wind. This wasn't our choice of property as we booked number 8 originally which we found backed on to the one we had. We were dismayed to see the owners of our property repeatedly visit the one we had previously booked and subsequently had cancelled, they evidently are 'managing it' along with many other properties on the same site, there was no one staying there which has annoyed us no end as that is where we wanted to stay to start with. Given this I doubt very much we will ever book or recommend this booking site ever again. The Park itself was well kept and ideally located.

This lodge provided just the right accommodation for our bubble of 4 adults and 2 children, and was very cosy and pretty well equipped.

On arrival it instantly felt warm and welcoming, and there was a very comprehensive folder of instructions to help us get to grips with unfamiliar appliances. There was plenty of storage space and it never felt cramped. The lodge is in a quieter uphill area of the park but within easy reach of all the amenities. The park is in a great position for exploring the area and we had a delightful holiday in glorious weather. The nearby Brockholes adventure park was a great hit with the children, as well as the on-site playground and activities. Despite some lockdown restrictions being in force, the staff made it as easy as possible to order food and we were able to arrange a swimming session and an organised nerff battle activity. The only issue we had was with the travel cot, the mattress is really just a thin solid base and while we appreciate this is for safety reasons it just wasn't comfortable for our 18 month old and we had to find a solution to pad it out a bit. What did you enjoy most about your stay? The scenery What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? A walk along Loughrigg terrace overlooking Grasmere and Rydal.

Had a fantastic holiday, the lodge is very clean, modern and in good position.

The decking wraps around the 3/4 of the lodge and has a jacuzzi but dog safe. The only thing I would say and this is not the owners fault or Sykes holidays but on 2 of the days we couldn’t use the decking or jacuzzi because we were invaded by a decking company who arrived in 4 vans and 2 cars, parking everywhere when working on the lodge opposite 8am till late 2 days on the trot. They parked 12 inches from the decking staring directly at our deck playing loud music and swearing etc. we did ask at one point if they could turn the music down which they did but the noise and shouting was horrendous. I did ring Sykes on the day who were not made aware of the work and they contacted resort to try and get them to move their vans but it was late on. Like I said this was not the owners fault who you can tell takes pride in their lodge. On the plus side for customers in the future, there is no decking to be done around any of the close lodges as it looks like they have all be renewed. Will I return, yes as it is a lovely lodge and I do understand workmen have to do their jobs it was just the closeness of their vans and noise etc

I'm aware that the owner is conscientious and appreciates any feedback so I would like to advise the following, during our recent stay w/c 2nd September.

Lodge is really lovely and we would definitely return. There a some minor things however that could be improved. Overall cleanliness is 'Good' but on accessing the lodge we found 7 spiders (some large) in the lounge/kitchen and more in the bedrooms, there were a lot of ceiling cobwebs which could be avoided by using a feather duster after every stay, the bottom of fridge freezer and the bottom basket hadn't been cleaned and the kitchen cupboard next to it needed wiping. Although it is accommodation that allows dogs which we were very grateful for, the smaller bedroom had an odour which may have been due to dogs, maybe clean the carpets monthly? The inside of the window frame was also dirty and just needed a wipe. The hoover did also smell of dogs but I appreciate efforts have gone into trying to avoid this. Also we couldn't see a BBQ plinth which would have been nice during the hot weather, Hot tub was lovely. We would give the lodge 9/10 and rectifying the above would bring it up to a well deserved 10.
