What our customers say about their holidays
David - Verified booking
The property was full of potential and yet it missed the mark completely.
Covid-19 was a golden opportunity to showcase what you have to a new market - folks who always holiday abroad. This was the chance to suggest that perhaps a UK holiday can be just as good and no effort was made to seize that chance. The en-suite bathroom showed how little care and thought had been put into this place. There was no hot water in the shower, the lock on the door was broken, there was no shelf in the shower so if you were prepared to have a cold one, there was nowhere to rest your soap or shampoo. There was a charging point for razors and toothbrushes but no shelf on which to rest a razor or toothbrush (or soap, or deodorant, or shaving gel or anything else one might put in a bathroom). There was no toilet roll holder and (seriously) the toilet was in the wrong place. Whoever designed the bathroom failed to take into account that the towel rail would protrude from the wall and so the positioning of the toilet needed to be from the edge of the towel rail rather than from the wall. The result is that you practically sit on the towel rail to use the toilet. A hook on the bathroom door would also have been very welcome. The main bathroom was much better but still no toilet roll holder and a hook on the door for bathrobes would be good. The double bed was the worst part. A cheap mattress on a cheap frame which basically dared you to try to sleep. We took on the challenge and lost. You can get away with a short size double if and only if there is no bar at the foot of the bed. This means that your feet can dangle over the end. If you put metal bars on the end then that size of bed will really only work for people who are in no way tall. The frames of the bunk beds were cheap too. Everything was squeaky and if anyone in any bed turned in the night, anyone sharing the room would know about it. The resort itself is another seriously missed opportunity. Aside from the pharmacy, there isnât a single shop onsite. You need a car to buy so much as a pint of milk or a loaf of bread. The fridge isnât big enough to take a weekâs shopping so the net result is that you drive to town each day to buy basic essentials. There is nowhere to buy a bucket and spade or a postcard, you canât even buy an ice cream on the beach. It really feels as if there is an aversion to making money here. I arrived with plenty of cash and a willingness to spend it and the overwhelming impression I received was âhaving fleeced you something chronic with the quality of the apartment, we couldnât possibly give you anything else to spend money on.â The one exception to this was a rather ropey tennis court which (I kid thee not) cost £10 per hour! You donât pay that much for a decent court never mind a ropey one. Then they had lines of people waiting to go into the swimming pool actually on the court while you are playing. If two adults who know how to hit the ball were playing, someone could have been seriously hurt. I would (genuinely) not return if you paid me. After a week without sleep, Iâm just glad to be home.

Honestly? We actually really liked the place.
It was large and spacious, lots of room for the 5 of us. It's well equipped, and the owners have obviously put quite a lot of hard work into making the place a nice and welcoming base from which to explore Filey and it's surrounding area. However... What let it down? Cleanliness. Whoever is cleaning the property was obviously rushing through and simply cleaning easily seen areas so that first impressions are positive. Look a little deeper though and that changes. I really don't want to spend the first hour of my holiday cleaning and bleaching the toilets. Lifting the lid to find 'dirt' marks and hairs meant i wasn't going to let my family use the bathrooms until they were cleaned to a good standard. It just went downhill from there, with the fridge having crumbs and marks in (all easily cleaned off by us), one of the freezer drawers was full of unwrapped sausages and burgers obviously left from a previous group, and an opened bag of ice, all of which we had to throw out ourselves along with cleaning the drawers so we could use it for our own food. The kitchen hadn't been properly wiped down, the microwave, oven and bin obviously just given a quick wipe over and there were crumbs at the back of the kitchen-sides and under the glass chopping boards/around the sink. In the living room we only had to sit on one sofa to be given a perfect view under the opposite sofa of thick dust and crumbs. Non of the above was 'searched out' by us, just easily viewed areas that should be obvious to someone cleaning a place. The bannister was wiped but sticky. I didn't dare move any furniture, beds, etc as I dread to think what it would have been like underneath things. That said, my husband told me on the way home at the end of our week, that he checked all rooms to make sure we hadn't left anything and found a soiled thong behind the bed my son had been using. I guess that will still be there as I very much doubt the cleaners ever look so it could have been there months! On our last day, while loading the car, my husband was approached by someone we assume was one of the cleaners, and asked if he was staying at No.1 and could we strip the beds and bring all the washing downstairs for them as they 'can't park for long so it saves us time' - I suppose that explains the lack of proper cleaning... Unfortunately in addition to this the beds were very hard, like sleeping on a board, with the pillows being very cheap and flat so giving very little comfort. I appreciate bedding is a very personal preference, but a little comfort on holiday would have been nice. Such a shame as it's obvious the owners really care about the place. We love Filey and have been coming for a long time. Sadly we won't be back here.

I have just returned from a 3 night stay at Perriwinkle at The Bay, Filey with my teenage son.
Overall the apartment was very nice, I was a bit worried after reading reviews but I didnât think it was at all dated. The lack of phone signal wasnât appreciated by the teenager but amazingly we survived! The walk to the beach whilst steep is a proper concrete path (I was imagining scrambling over rocks) and worth it for the lovely beach. The directions to the apartment I was sent were incorrect and made the apartment very difficult to find, when I called I was given the same directions so in the end I had to ask the Away resorts reception who helped me. A clearer set of directions would be - Turn left at the roundabout onto sunrise drive, then turn right (correct so far) onto Talisker walk (this would help know you are on the right road). Follow the road round to the right (not left) and the property is the black door in the corner, right in front of you as you turn into the courtyard parking. Hopefully others will read this and find it more easily. Overall we were happy with the accommodation, it was a shame not to have a welcome pack as you usually get in these type of properties and to not even have a tea bag or milk of some kind left is a pretty poor show after a 3 hour journey. (luckily we packed our own). There is also not a single empty cupboard in the kitchen to keep your food which I found really odd. Iâm not sure if there is supposed to be, but there are no instructions at all about the property - where to put the linen bag, whether to empty the bin and there were no passes for the leisure facilities. We were able to use the pool after showing our booking but were told to let the agent know so they can sort out the passes which I will. The showers were lovely and the apartment is a nice space. I think the accommodation is good quality just these couple of really easy to fix things and I probably would have given better marks. The pub is nice although expensive for food and the leisure centre staff were really helpful. Overall a nice short break.

A surprisingly good holiday week!
As this was a last minute break and booked only the week before and was the ONLY listing Sykes had for the week in all of England, we were not expecting anything outstanding. However the property was really nice. The kitchen was fantastic with built in appliances throughout and very nicely laid out. Unusually for a rental holiday house had a full fridge/freezer so you can stock up for a bit longer if you need to. Living room was very comfortable with a large sofa and a swivel chair and a dining table against one wall. Outside there was a nice table and chairs for dining out - but at the time we went it was time for "much spreading" it seems to it wasnt always pleasent outside. Not a reflection on the property - but was a very small disadvantage. Bedrooms and bathroom were all very nice - with flexibility in the room with a double and twin. As some others have said, it would have been nice to have a coat hook "somewhere" in the house, and a chair in the main double bedroom would have been useful for the desk/dressing table. I ended up taking one of the dining chairs up there so I could sit up to my laptop! Location was perfect - midway between Bridlington and Scarborough and we had a very nice relaxing break and enjoyed the seaside at both, as well as Peasholm park in Scarborough and Filey Bird Garden and Bridlington Animal Park. Would definately recommend.

Good day Sykes Cottages, After a long journey of more than 28 hours we had arrived at the apartment, we had hoped to be able to put down our bags and take a nice shower first.
As soon as we entered we were shocked by the mess on the floor and then we started looking further. Sorry to say this, but this is not rentable in this way, it is because we were visiting family in England, otherwise we would have left immediately. Showers are filthy, even with hair (the bath even has a crack in it), you won't find an oven dirtier, sun blinds covered in dust, even the dining table was covered in dust. In the cupboards even dirty attributes and a brochure from 2019 (indicates that this is purely about money). When we see what our son had, a whole house, everything neat and clean, more facilities and the rent cheaper than yours. Then the peace and quiet in the apartment, renting upstairs with children is a complete mockery. Audible until late at night (01:00 am) and again in the morning at 07:00 am making noise. Yes, even later in the week with 2 girls and their scooter through the house. Nearby neighbors with 3 dogs that were constantly barking and the lady quietly stood in front of our windows to make the phone call. I have never been so happy to go home. That's why I wish you the best of luck in becoming a millionaire in this unmanageable way. I'm angry, disappointed and tired, but I know I NEVER want this again! Too much money (£626.00) for something like that.
