This unique cottage in the heart of the coastal town of Whitby was once the home to Jet workers, who had their own workshop in the yard. Here you can stay in a little piece of the town’s history; the jet jewellery here is an important part of the local heritage. Stone steps lead you up away from the hustle of the town, step through the gate into your own private yard which is a peaceful secluded haven. Even this little outdoor space is beautifully presented, with a seating area and thoughtful personal touch making this an inviting place to unwind.
The front door opens into the modern and characterful kitchen, which is well equipped and ready for your time away. From the kitchen you have the open plan living and dining room which is bathed in light from the huge bay window. This is the perfect spot for people watching, as there is a large window seat with views of the church opposite as well as the street down below. Upstairs on the first floor you have a delightful double bedroom with a wardrobe as well as the added convenience of a sink. There is also a well sized bathroom with a shower over the bath. At the top of the property on the second floor there is a fabulous kingsize bedroom, the bed itself is gorgeous with a solid wooden sleigh frame complete with carved taloned feet! There is also a cosy twin bedroom.
The ruins of the abbey stand proudly on top of the East Cliff headland above the busy seaside town. The old town has cobbled streets and independent shops galore, as well as a fantastic foodie scene with everything from award-winning fish and chips to gastro pubs, bistros, and traditional pub fayre. There are plenty of tea rooms and coffee shops mixed amongst the ice cream parlours and pubs with live music all year round. Whitby plays host to many different events each year. There is also a 2-mile stretch of golden sand to explore.
Venture further afield and visit the North York Moors National Park for some stunning scenery. Take a steam train journey into the heart of the National Park from Whitby station and snake into the colourful moorland. Explore the Yorkshire Heritage Coast and discover the many hidden gems, such as Runswick Bay, Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes which are all a short drive away.
