What our customers say about their holidays
Julie - Verified booking
This house is dirty, so unless you fancy a whole day of cleaning when you arrive, I would steer-clear.
The kitchen is about as bad as it gets - the cupboard doors are sticky and do require cleaning, and there are unidentifiable stains in one drawer. There are two kitchen drawers full of what can only be described as junk. The crockery and glassware had to be dishwashed before use as they were so filthy, and the oven pans are so greasy as to be almost unusable. The kitchen cupboards are so full of left-over food that other guests have left behind, they are not usable - we had to leave our provisions out on the table for the whole week. The usable fridge was clean but looked new. The other rusty, mouldy, random fridge needs to be removed. The sugar canister is a sight to behold, but once you touch it, you'll need to disinfect your hand. The oven is rubbish. The washing machine drawer is full of water that smelt musty. The cupboard under the sink is not for the fainthearted. The towels had make-up stains on them, didn't smell clean and are strangers to fabric softener. The conservatory windows are not clean. The downstairs bathroom floor needs a steam clean and the shower needs attention around the edges to get rid of the black corners. There is a greasy-head stain by the top of the bath that was very off-putting. The fire-grate was full of what looked like a whole week of someone else's fire ashes - we had to clean it out on arrival before we could use it. The beds are not at all comfortable and there are no mattress protectors - just very thin and ill-fitting sheets. The pillows are ridiculously thin and the duvets are the cheapest of the cheap - new pillows, duvets and protectors are needed. Two of the single beds had dirt, dust and sweets & wrappers underneath so they don't clean under the beds. The place is grubby and appears to be just a money making exercise for the owners who seemingly don't care to offer you a decent holiday. The redeeming thing I can offer is that Dornoch is the best place in Scotland - but find somewhere else to stay when you visit there. Three stars shouldn't mean that they don't have to make an effort - it's your holiday they'll ruin. -------------------------- "Many thanks for your feedback, we have fed your comments back to the owner in order to maintain our property standards. Beautiful cottage, clean, cozy and one of the best stocked places we have rented.
The owners have pretty much thought of everything, down to torches and extra long matches and there were plenty of cleaning and sanitising products provided. Oh and of course a corkscrew!! The welcome hamper was much appreciated and enabled us to make a cuppa immediately on arrival rather than having to unpack first! The garden is a sun trap and we managed our morning coffee out there a couple of days, not bad for early March! Our bed was extremely comfortable and there was plenty of extra bedding and pillows if required. The shower was decent and the huge heated towel rail meant your massive bath towels (they really were huge!) were toasty warm for you when you got out! Personally, we would have preferred a full sized ironing board rather than the table top one provided but it was in good condition and the iron worked very well and had a nice clean sole plate which hasnât always been the case in some places weâve rented. We didnât use the living room at all, preferring to sit in the comfy chairs by the kitchen windows in the evenings just reading, snoozing and enjoying the odd wee dram! There was however, a cabinet full of books in the living room as well as a TV and looking at the titles there would have been something suitable for most guests. Location wise, it was lovely to be able to forget about the car some days and just take a walk along the beach or around Dornoch. Itâs a beautiful place and the cottage was the perfect base for us. Many thanks.

We had a great holiday at this property.
The house was beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. The facilities at the house were first class and the hot tub was the âcherry on topâ. The location was great for trips to the many seaside towns in the area and for country walks with our dog. And that view from the house and garden just has to be seen to be believed!! We spoke with Grant the owner a few times and he was very nice, helpful and accommodating. The welcome pack was a nice touch and appreciated. Although we had a mixed bag of weather it didnât dampen our enjoyment of the house in the slightest. When it was wet and miserable outside the log burner fire and comfortable lounge were so relaxing and when it was warm and nice outside the garden furniture and that view really were worth the drive alone. Would highly recommend this lovely, spacious and private property to anyone and will definitely be looking to go again sometime in the future.

Property was lovely!
Very clean, well presented and overall a fantastic place. I was super impressed with the amount of kitchen utensils as well, as many places you go to on holiday, don't often have everything that you might need. The hot tub was a great way to relax at the end of the day and although there was not a lot of places to visit (towns/shops etc) around the property, there was plenty of places a very short drive away. We visited a couple of places reccomended to us by the owners, such us the The Pier in Lairg and we were not disappointed. The only thing we were a little disappointed about was the fact that one morning, we didn't seem to have any hot water left for one of our part to have a shower, and we couldn't figure out how to change that, but that did not take away from our overall review. We all loved our stay here and would definitely be back again. Maybe we will back next year!

This is the second time we've stayed in this cottage.
The location is perfect. The building is lovely as is the garden. So peaceful. The decor is very tasteful with some quality antique furniture. The only two things we would say negatively: the fridge is too small to accommodate a week's worth of shopping. The nearest supermarket is ten miles away so we wanted to stock up. Not possible. Perhaps an extra fridge could be accommodated in the hall cupboard where the washing machine is? The second issue is more challenging to fix! The sloping ceilings in the bedrooms. You have to be constantly on alert not to bang your head as you get in and out of bed or inch gingerly towards the bedside tables. Perhaps painting these parts of the ceiling bright colours? I think people with physical limitations might struggle here. Other than that, a wonderful place for a quiet, relaxing holiday near the centre of beautiful Dornoch. Thanks.
