What our customers say about their holidays
Mrs Willis - Verified booking
Anniversary Cottage is in a fantastic location. We didn’t use our car once during our stay as there were so many fantastic walks straight from the property. One day we walked over to Grasmere and then got the open top bus into Ambleside (come approx every 20 mins) and then another bus back to Elterwater (they’re roughly every 2 hours). We were walking distance of at least three pubs/restaurants with The Britannia being about a 2 minute walk. We used the Langdale CoOp at Chapel Style for all our groceries and that’s a 10/15 minute walk along the riverside (half a mile there). The house itself was super comfortable (two couples & a single adult) with glorious views. We cooked in 5 of the 7 nights and the kitchen had everything that we needed. We were lucky enough to be able to sit outside most evenings too. The beds were large & comfortable with cotton bedding and big, decent towels. Both bathrooms were decent too with great water pressure to the showers. The only area for comment was the kitchen which could do with some attention in places. For instance, the washing machine was grimy on the rubber inside the door, the cooker extractor needed new grease filters and a bit of a clean, some of the cupboard fronts needed a good wipe & there were a few cobwebs. Nothing earth shattering but just made the difference between a good and fantastic review which is a shame as everywhere else was absolutely lovely. The new carpet throughout is just gorgeous and we all just loved the decor in the bedrooms and sitting room. We would definitely recommend this super comfortable property as an ideal base for walking in the Langdales.

We had a fabulous week at Anniversary Cottage. The bungalow is one of the best equipped places we have ever been to. Loved the slow cooker. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking at home which we tend to do. Comfortable lounge with inviting log burner. It would have been a lovely gesture to Include a baskets of logs, kindling and firelighters to start us off. Bedrooms were spacious with lots of storage and beds were comfortable. A minor gripe was the water and central heating system as we ran out of water for evening showers if any were taken in the morning and had to remember to boost the immersion heater in the afternoon for enough hot water. We also went in a really cold spell and couldn’t adjust the heating so had to phone through for support as the house became cold very quickly after it went off. It is set to come on 3 times a day which was ok once outside temps increased but flexibility to change without phoning for help would have been helpful. Space for several cars to park off road which is an advantage for this village as it does get busy. Fabulous location for walks from the doorstep straight into the Great Langdale valley with walks to Skelwith Bridge and Loughrigg tarn close by. 2 mins walk from fab pub - Britannia Inn which is cosy, welcoming and serves great food. Overall would definitely recommend return.

Lovely old world cottage at a sensible price point.
Great location in Chapel stile. All facilities were provided, large dishwasher etc. Decent size smart TV. The little village shop provided everything we needed for the stay. Would be happy to stay again if the opportunity arose. I think some of the negative reviews reflected things that have since been resolved. The garden was high up some steep steps, so not suitable for pets but there are other places to take the dog nearby. Parking was not available directly outside but it was possible about 20 seconds walk away so not an issue really. A couple of small points. When we arrived there was no hand soap in the property. I left some soap bars which I wonder if they threw away or left for the next resident. Maybe this point is more for Lakelovers. It is next to the church and oddly the Church bell next door rang out at all hours. Typically midnight and 6am so it was impossible to get more than 6 hours sleep. I may have imagined it but I think it also rang at 1am and 2am on one night. If it was my cottage I would definitely put in a complaint to the Council about noise at unsocial hours. I mean the bells are lovely on occasion but no way should they ring between 8pm and 8am. I suppose this applies to all accommodation in Chapel Stile.

The cottage is beautiful and the owner clearly loves their property.
The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need, the cottage has lots of space to store everything too. Itâs very good for a family! However, the cottage clearly hadnât had a deep clean for some time. We also had an issue where the cleaners were late which meant that we couldnât get into our property at the specified time. Lakelovers did communicate this to the property owner who gave us compensation for having to leave the property. However, when we returned to the property, there was clear evidence that the property hadnât had deep clean and Iâm not sure the hoover had even been ran around. There were spider webs which had clearly been there for some time, which would have been caught by the hoover with ease. There was also dust on several pieces of furniture and under the beds in my daughters room. I also had to clean the shelves in a couple of the cupboards. Sadly, even though this was passed onto lakelovers, nothing was done and no other cleaners came out to property during in our stay. Overall, the property in a fabulous location, has great space and facilities for families. However, the cleaners are letting you down!

A few snagging issues that I telephoned through earlier today, just to make your company aware of them so they can be sorted before they become big problems.
The biggest problem was with the major noise seepage from Priest End Cottage from the owner's son & 11 of his friends on our last three nights stay. I made Wheelwright's aware of the problem on two separate occasions (called in at their office Wednesday & again on Friday before we left) whilst up there & have just informed your young chap when I rang earlier. It seems the owners of Priest End thought nothing of breaking H&S or Covid regulations & need educating about both. In all the many years we've been having holidays in Chapel Stile we have never had this level of noise disruption happen before - & it's not something either myself or my husband needed when we both have heart problems now. I hope that both yourselves & Wheelwrights can work together to ensure that the owners of Priest End face penalties for what they allowed to happen because it doesn't take a genius to work out that a large group of late teens/early 20 somethings are going to kick off when let out on their own! Otherwise, the cottage was as lovely & the garden as big a joy as last time we stayed (2019) & just as quiet, restful & peaceful up until the final 3 days.
