We were very disappointed with the cottage.
It was far from the high standard we usually receive when we book with Sykes. 1. The bathroom was in a poor decorative condition. The radiator was rusty and did not always heat up. The bathroom itself seemed dated and not in good condition. Surfaces had not been cleaned and the shower cubicle had discoloured grout. The toiletry holder in the shower was also rusty. 2. There was obviously a problem with the heating system. When it came on it was very noisy and the radiators did not always heat up. On the last morning we woke up we had no heating or hot water. This was remedied by early afternoon. 3. We used the washing machine, but our clothes came out with black bits on them. On closer inspection we could see that water had collected in the seals and the machine had not been maintained. 4. The outside area had not been prepared for visitors. The outside dryer had algae on it, as did the table for sitting out. The area where the table was situated had not been cleared of moss and weeds. We had a period of good weather before and during our visit so would have liked to have made more use of this. The cottage was spacious for two people but lacked the care and attention to make a comfortable holiday property.

The property was well presented, warm, clean and cosy, we were made to feel very welcome by Dudley and his wife. The property is ideally located and easily accessible on a working farm, close to the A11, pub/restaurants, local amenities and shops at East Harling. Thetford and the forest are nearby, as well as Banham Zoo and Swallow Aquatics only about 2 miles away, but well worth a vist to see the amazing variety of fish, birds and reptiles. It is well equipped, comfortable and very warm with underfloor heating and a log burner in the lounge, alongside a nice patio'd garden that the children enjoyed feeding the donkeys and horses from. We highly recommend staying at this lovely property, it has everything for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Thank you!!

The gift basket was amazing and we enjoyed cookies and tea by the fire every evening. We fell in love with the area and the fresh croissants from Stiffkey stores were to die for. We also both bought Christmas presents for our mums there!! The Red Lion is spectacular if a little expensive. The walks were amazing and we foraged sea beet and sorrel for our dinner. The local town of Holt is also lovely so many independent shops and you can get everything you need local! Loved it. Would definitely love to come again.

We absolutely loved our stay at Owl Cottage. We felt at home straight away. It is in the perfect location for a great pub, beautiful local shop and bus stop. Even though not far from the road it is still very very quiet. We completed the Norfolk coastal path walk. The coastal hopper bus service right outside was ideal. The cottage had everything we needed and it all felt of a high quality standard. The bed was very comfortable (after our long walk) and it was great that there was a choice of a soak in a hot bath or a shower. We would definitely return to Owl cottage.
