What our customers say about their holidays

Fabulous cottage in a perfect location.
Just a couple of observations from us (not complaints but we feel they would improve the overall experience of Poppy's Cottage). This was the most expensive cottage we have ever rented in the Lake District so it needs to present itself accordingly please:- 1. Towels - larger bath towels (sheets) would be lovely - the bath towels supplied only just cover the bare necessities so functional but not luxury. I was at fear of exposing myself to my brother-in-law which would have been a pretty scary experience for him :). 2. Kitchen towel (only 1?) and tea towels (2). We like to cook at home when we are away so could have done with a few more towels and tea towels. 3. Very disappointed to have to buy washing tablets and fabric conditioner (none supplied), washing up liquid, toilet cleaner, etc. There were a few dishwasher tablets but we are used to having these items provided and only topping them up if needs be. We are also used to leaving behind anything that we have bought for the next visitor. We took everything that we had purchased home with us on this occasion. It gave the impression that the cottage was all about show and not about providing the ultimate cottage experience. 4. The second bedroom makes use of a storage cupboard on the landing as there is absolutely no space for anything in the room. This in itself is not a huge problem (the photos are deceptive on the size of the room to be honest), however, a light in the cupboard would have been helpful as my sister spent ages with a torch in the cupboard looking for her clothes!! 5. The sofas are not comfortable - after a long day climbing Helvellyn, etc, when you do decide to stay in for an evening it would be have been nice to have comfortable sofas (minimally footstools provided). There were 4 of us so we were somewhat perched which wasn't great. 6. The outside 'laundry/drying' room was a god send - perfect for all of our walking equipment and great to have a heater in there to dry out the wet clothing. 7. TV services were excellent - great to have internet TV with iPlayer, Netflix, etc. Overall, I would give this cottage 9/10 - if the owner just went a little bit further it could so easily be a 10 and we would definitely be back!

This is a lovely cottage placed right in the very heart of Grasmere.
The owner has renovated Poppy's Cottage to a very high spec indeed and there is everything you could possibly need and then some. Tastefully decorated throughout and having the benefit of 2 bathrooms ( a large family and an en suite). The cottage is very comfortable and has only just been renovated and put on the holiday market so is all shiny and new and far superior to some cottages we have experienced. The TV is also a proper 4k large unit, so we got our evening 'strictly takes 2' fix with Zoe in style. We also had pretty good weather too, not bad for October!. The annex houses the washer/dryer and a thoughtfully placed panel heater and hooks are provided to dry your wet walking gear. There are numerous great walks right from the door and we barely used the car all week....parking was no issue due to the parking permit allowing us to park the car 24/7 in a nearby car park about 100 yards away, you are allowed to unload right outside the door too which is useful. We turned up on the first Friday of the month which is market day, but the stall holders helped us gain access and then we had some nice produce to buy right on the doorstep!. Sykes Cottages who handle this property were superb from start to finish, very helpful and friendly staff making this a lovely holiday experience. We would highly recommend both Sykes and this super Cottage.

Poppy's cottage is newly refurbished and it is absolutely charming!
They really did it right - the attention to detail is stunning. Every need has been taken care of from laundry detergent to cookies and tea to ensuite bathrooms. The combination of history and modern conveniences is exactly what I was looking for. I booked late and couldn't believe my luck in finding this wonderful cottage. I had been combing through MANY pictures when I found Poppy's Cottage. It turns out that it had only just come on the market so I just lucked out. This cottage will book up. Upon arrival, I found pamphlets, brochures and maps to help me plan my trip, next to the tea and cookies. The owners were perfect hosts and Sykes Cottage personnel were very helpful. I could not have asked for anything better. The cottage is beautiful, comfortable and perfectly located in the center of town. I was so happy to wake up and come home each day to spend time in this beautiful cottage. I came all the way to the Lake District from California, USA. My trip was everything I had hoped for and more (and I'm fussy). Thank you to Jo and Andrew for making one of my bucket list trips a dream come true.

An absolutely delightful Cottage in a central location in the beautiful Village of Grasmere.
On entering the property we immediately knew we had made the right choice. This cottage has a real WOW factor, it is cosy, immaculate and the attention to detail from the quality furniture to the soft furnishings really is on point. This was further enhanced with the very generous welcome package of Fresh Bread, Milk, Butter, Biscuits and Chocolate. This really is a superb property in a prime location and is literally a secondâs walk from the local pubs, shops and restaurants and I couldnât recommend more highly. We have learnt that this property is part of a small group and we are now looking to visit all of them starting with their Prospect Studio in Ambleside in a few weeks from now. This is purely based on the quality and attention to detail we experienced at Poppyâs Cottage. This certainty will not be our last visit to Poppyâs Cottage and the only downside was having to leave. Thank you to the owners and to all those involved in making our stay so comfortable, enjoyable and memorableâ¦. Simply put âOutstanding â

Poppy's is a really lovely cottage.
Stayed here with my 84 year old mum in July. It's very comfortable has quality furnishings and feels like home with lots of nice touches. Comfy beds, beautiful bathrooms and a great kitchen.....it's not big....Poppy's is not a big house but extremely well thought out. Did a bit of cooking and there is a handy Co-op just around the corner. We enjoyed sitting in the courtyard for breakfast and for afternoon sun. Also there is a pleasant public 'green' at the front of the property, which can get busy during the day but then very quiet after about 5pm. We both slept really well, it's very peaceful by night and no traffic noise. Grasmere is a fantastic base in the Lake District. Stunning scenery and some great walking right out of the front door - some real gems such as Helm Crag, Silverhowe and Easedale tarn. Also a really good bus service up to Keswick or Ambleside if you need. You won't go far wrong at Poppy's cottage.
