What our customers say about their holidays

Arriving in dreadful weather, the cottage wasn't warm on arrival after a 7 hour journey that was disappointing.
however we realised the control on the wall for the underfloor heating wasn't on the next day so we turned it on( or up)and it was fine after. Neither of us liked the stairs we found them narrow and with the thick carpet I was slipping in my slippers everytime I went down them maybe just bare wood would give better grip , the bedroom made me feel giddy I felt like I was falling but we knew what it looked like on booking so our fault I didn't realise I would feel like that I imagine alot of people are fine with it . Not been able to stand straight due to the ceiling shape was awkward for us again it's how the cottage is , you cannot change that . Our next door neighbours arrived after us and had a swearing shouting row in the early hours and he was swearing shouting saturday afternoon slamming door/s , we didn't know what to do as everyone can have arguments it's hardly the cottage owners fault we decide to stay Sunday and go home early Monday ( instead of friday) however Sunday morning the next door neighbours left so we stayed. There are kitchen cupboards but each one had items in so as we had brought our food with us it was awkward storing things away l put the loaf of bread in the saucepan cupboard. Each day I had used a saucepan and colander from that cupboard (unaware rodents was likely to be walking over these items. )on Thursday morning I opened it to get the bread out and the bread and plastic wrapper was ripped around bread and the seeds of the bread scattered in the cupboard obviously rodents / mice , I phoned the cottage owner and he sent a maintenence man in while we was out for the day ( as we had pre- paid tickets for muncaster castle) they acted on it swiftly and the owner apologised ( on the phone and in a text- telling me they had put mouse traps behind the kick boards and cleaned up the mess of bread etc but didn't see anything) unfortunately I am absolutely terrified of rodents so that was extremely stressful for me I cannot help how I feel about them- I am aware these things happen sometimes - we lived for years in a very remote cottage and now live in the countryside next to the sea so I realise rodents get into places but it just totally ruined the holiday for me especially I spent all night and evening listening for mice and we went home - as planned as end of holiday on Friday but left at 4.20am as I couldn't relax anymore . I guess we was unfortunate but we had looked forward to the holiday so much - as anyone does but it wasn't how we would have liked it to be Also the living space could do with better lighting at night it was really dull I realise we sound like moaners , we chose the cottage knowing how it's layout was etc but all the other incidents just ruined it . We wouldn't go back.

The treats were a pleasant find, thank you.
A good all round location for a trip to the lakes & a nice quiet area. Fan was much appreciated in the heatwave, thank you. The kitchen is so tiny you can't prepare meals in it, plus the hob is not user friendly, & takes a long time to heat food up. The sofa slides everywhere when you sit on it, so we had to move a rug from under a table to be able to sit on it. No mention of the use of feathered pillows, duvet & cushions...I am allergic to them, and as a vegan it is unethical. The TV had no signal so unable to watch it, not a problem for us, but something for others to bear in mind. The patio area only consists of a small table and chairs, not much privacy for that, or for the use of the hot tub, especially when the family are dining outside. Cleanliness was not up to standard expected of a holiday cottage. Many cobwebs, dust, and the tiles in the bathroom are grimy with a lot of black grout. The shower head kept falling from the holder, it was not substantial for a cottage of this price, and the extractor fan didn't work. The doors don't close properly, especially the bathroom. A slab at the front entrance was loose causing my partner to slip down the step. And WORST of all was finding someone's glasses in the bed behind the pillow!!!! Disgraceful!! We have left them 'somewhere' to see if the cleaner finds them.

Lovely cottage!
Located on the quieter side of Windermere, it is perfect for a nice, relaxing break away from busier Bowness! The cottage itself was spotlessly clean and was very well equipped, with the welcome biscuits and bottle of fizz particularly nice touches! The hot tub is also excellent and, with no light pollution at all, the stars are amazing to view on a clear night:) There is plenty of good walking on the doorstep of the cottage, without the need to get in the car, and trips to Bowness or Ambleside are easily achieved using the Windermere ferry service, which is only a 10 minute walk from the cottage and which I highly recommend. The Lakeside Hotel & Spa is also only 10 minutes walk away with views across the lake and a small but very good spa! Definitely planning on visiting again. 10 out of 10!!

Peony Cottage is idyllic , set in beautiful tranquil woodland.
Perfect location to explore the Windermere, Coniston Waters and surrounding villages particularly Hawkshead. You can literally step out the front door and turn right at bottom of drive for the most peaceful walk up to High Dam, stand and listen for a moment and you hear nothing but the sounds of nature. The cottage is everything you want and need, the owners Julie and Alistair have thought of every little detail. The Hot Tub is a real bonus at the end of a long day walking, to relax those weary bones and muscles. We all have are own opinions when giving feedback but please ignore the negative comments some holiday makers have left, the cottage is absolutely perfect for a relaxing break. We will be back as soon as we can. Thank you Julie and Alistair

We have stayed at Ewedale Farm twice before in the past year, both times in Laith Cottage, we absolutely loved our stays there, so this time we thought we would try Thimble Cottage.
We were so looking forward to it. Thimble cottage is clean and comfortable and well equipped with everything you might need for your stay. However, the Cottage is very dark and would benefit from a few extra table lamps. Upstairs, where this a very small mirror, it is particularly dark, making it almost impossible to use the mirror. The "stairs" to the mezzanine floor are more like a ladder, very, very steep, extremely narrow and definitely not wide enough to place your whole foot on. I'm not keen on heights and l found it particularly difficult coming down. The shower us terrible, hardly any water pressure and difficult to regulate. Sorry, but its just not up to the same standard as Laith Cottage,we definitely won't return.
