What our customers say about their holidays
Catherine - Verified booking
The muffins, tea and milk were much appreciated on arrival.
Sadly the busy A49 on one side, the railway on the other and wood yard next door were not mentioned at the time of booking which made this not the most peaceful place we have ever stayed. The beds were lovely and comfortable. Although the living room and kitchen were tiny, the kitchen was well equipped for our needs. The bathrooms were ok, however the shower in the double room despite being mentioned in numerous reviews still remains dangerously hot! A couple of bulbs could also do with being replaced in the over mirror lights. Parking is plentiful. However, the garden is not ideal for a young family-all gravel and uneven paving but ok for sitting out in the sunshine. Have stayed in a number of holiday cottages before and felt the local information, leaflets, etc was rather limited here. MAGIC ! We recently spent a weekâs holiday at âHendreâ, Penybontfawr, Powys, and it was idyllic.
On arrival, we were given a very warm welcome by the owner, Ursula, and her daughter Ela, and very much enjoyed the bottle of Prosecco and tray-bakes (home baked by Ela) which awaited us in the dining kitchen. The cottage itself is very spacious, ideal for 4 but there were only 3 of us so lots of room. It is set in itsâ own grounds overlooking a lake with a lovely patio and table and chairs where we spent many hours, relaxing, talking, bird-spotting and enjoying the antics of the ducks and coots on the lake. The interior of the cottage is very pretty, attractive, and comfortable and contains absolutely everything one could want in a holiday home. The surrounding countryside is lovely and ideal for walking as is the village. Lots of places to visit nearby, including the British Iron Museum and Port Meirion. On three evenings during our week, we walked down the lane into the village (0.7 miles) where we were served delicious meals and received a very friendly welcome from the staff at the Railway Inn (give them a call to reserve a table). Everything was charming. Our lovely stay at âHendreâ was a very welcome break from the Covid traumas of the last 18 months. Many thanks to Ursula and her family. It was simply magic.

Loved the look of The Little Dingle when we arrived, was very cute & off road which was great.
Once we got our belongings in & started to unload there was a few things noticed. No liners were in the bins in the bedrooms & bathrooms, the bin in the bedroom off the kitchen had hairs & nail clippings in it! The microwave & fridge looked like it hadn't been wiped out. There were many dead insects about too.The towel rail in the bathroom(off the kitchen kept falling off,we fixed it simply, also the shower was very hard to use in that room, water was so hot & adjusting it was hard work) there were no bath mats in either showers which made them a little slippery. Would of liked to of seen some cleaning supplies (l did take some along with me) unfortunately every time we had the back door open for evening air we were over run by huge hornets, moths & many other flying insects, maybe a fly curtain up at the door could prevent against this. We left two days early of the holiday sadly as my friend suffers with Parkinsons disease, & he found it too slippery in the shower without a mat. I don't like leaving a negative feedback but feel l have to on this occasion. The cottage is lovely, loved the beds, they were very comfortable, bedding was fab, towels too but l feel a bit more of a clean overall would of been good

The Stables is a comfortable and warm property.
It has a roomy kitchen, with lots of storage space, with good facilities, cooker, dishwasher, washing machine and hot water. The bathroom has an excellent shower. There is underfloor heating in lounge, kitchen, hallway and bathroom which works well and has an easy override option for additional heat. The bedrooms are heated by electric wall panels which are efficient. There is a good selection of local interest books and guides and an easy to work large screen TV. The hosts live opposite and are responsive and there is a very good view south from the property to the woodland on Lodge Hill. A private walled garden can be accessed from the lounge via a set of double doors, the garden is well maintained with fine flower beds, shrubs and lawn. The property is in a quiet location and a very good choice if you wished to explore Shropshire and the nearby Longmynd either on foot or by bike. There is a railway station at nearby Church Stretton or Shrewsbury with access into Powys. Shrewsbury has a regular Saturday morning Parkrun which is very popular and a regular very good indoor Market, excellent for fruit and vegetables.

Anyone looking for a quite and peaceful holiday out in the country will not find a better property than this one.
The hosts are wonderful. On arrival we were met by the owner Ursula, who showed us around the bungalow, and gave us a bottle of Prosecco and some cakes, which were made by her daughter Ela which were absolutely delicious. We met Ela later on. Both of these ladies are so accommodating and kind. The bungalow has every facility you would need and was exceptionally clean and in all respects very comfortable. There are seats available in the garage which we used on occasion to sit out in the garden where you can overlook their private lake When we were there we had a lot of rain but that did not spoil our holiday as we were decidedly in need of a rest and we enjoyed reading and having to stay in the property was a bonus. We did get out at times and we visited the Dingle Gardens and the Derwent Garden Centre both of which are near Welshpool and are worth visiting. We also went to Bala which we have been to many times before and we can recommend Y Cynfod, an Italian Cafe - Restaurant where we had lovely meals. Could we recommend other people making a booking at Hendre? Absolutely!!
