Last Minute Cottages in St Ives

The cobbled streets, harbour, spires, waterfront cottages and turquoise sea of St Ives make this town in southern Cornwall one of the most scenic on the English coast. Surrounded by beaches, art, history, and fantastic food, St Ives is the perfect place to take a last-minute holiday. Whether with the family, a partner or just on your own, St Ives is a town you'll fall in love with on a cottage holiday.

Reasons to visit St Ives

Art

Probably the biggest draw is St Ive's place as a centre of art and creativity. Attracting artists from all around the world with its mix of coastal scenery and quaint town, while art lovers are drawn to the Tate St Ives, Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, as well as countless local galleries.

With a selection of paintings, ceramics, photography and sculpture on sale, you'll struggle to leave St Ives without a piece of art for your own home and a souvenir of your visit.

Beaches

Stunning beaches quite literally surround St Ives. Porthmeor is a long golden beach with turquoise waters and great surf. For a more secluded cove, try Porthgwidden Beach. This cosy beach is much smaller, with less surf but stunning waters for swimming or relaxing in.

Carbis Bay Beach is a spectacular beach only a 45-minute walk along the South-West Coastal Path, and beyond that is Porthkidney Beach.

Where to stay in St Ives

Staying towards the north of the town near the harbour means easy access to beaches, harbourside restaurants and galleries, including the Tate St Ives. Staying in the south of the town means easier access to explore other parts of Cornwall and the pleasure of walking through the cobbled streets of St Ives to the harbour.

Wherever you stay in St Ives on your last-minute holiday with us, you can be sure that at Last Minute Cottages we will always strive to show you the biggest range of properties, at our lowest available price.

What our customers say about their holidays

  • Heidi - Verified booking

We were very disappointed with the cleanliness of the bathrooms, bedroom surfaces and kitchen utensils.

The sofa is grubby and the arms upholstery is very tired. On departure when we stripped the beds one of the single beds mattress protector was very unpleasant. Although we tried to call both carbis and Sykes offices to report these issues the phones continually cut us off. We had to go to the office on the first morning of our holiday to report these issues but do not think they were resolved satisfactorily. The Welcome cream tea no longer exists and a voucher for £4 to spend in St Ives as it’s alternative is not in our opinion an equivalent option for 4 people. As we had previously stayed in this apartment we were aware of the day guest passes for the Spa at the Carbis Bay Hotel that were offered to guests in this apartment. We found the voucher readily available again in the Information folder so were very surprised to find that it is no longer applicable. There was no assistance nor compromise over this issue which we find to be gross misrepresentation. We were only told that it was the housekeeper’s fault for not removing it. As you can imagine we do not think that the level of service is up to our expectations based on the previous visit nor is relative to the cost charged. We feel further consideration of these issues is required.

We overall had a lovely stay here.

The property was as expected from the photos and with a nice view of the sea! The beds and sofa were really comfy and the welcome treats were a lovely touch. The property itself was nice, comfortable and overall clean although we did have a few issues which we expressed to Carbis Bay Holidays who were quick to respond. Our toddler had dirty feet after crawling on the floor for a short time when we first arrived which wasn’t great so we ended up buying a mop and cleaning it ourselves. The highchair hadn’t been cleaned properly either which made us reluctant to use the travel cot due to cleanliness concerns. It is great that these items are available to use but please make sure that they are cleaned thoroughly and are presentable for the next guests as it’s not a great first impression. It was also inconvenient that the dishwasher was out of use for our stay but these things happen and we appreciated the good will gesture from the owner. Also bear in mind if travelling with mobile babies and toddlers that there are a few steps in the property.

Our stay at Halcyon Cove has been perfect.

The apartment was very clean, bright and spacious. It was lovely to arrive to milk and juice in the fridge and a packet of biscuits along with a welcome pack. Very thoughtful. The views are amazing and it was lovely to sit on the terrace and watch the boats go by, as well as searching for dolphins. Halcyon cove is about a 3 minute walk to the train station which is about a 4 minute ride into St Ives. It’s is also perfectly situated to use as a base to see visit many of the beautiful areas around south Cornwall. We particularly loved, Godrevy, where we saw loads of seals on the beach, The Minack Theatre, and Kynance Cove. Porthmoer beach cafe does the best breakfast ever and is a perfect spot to sit and watch the surfers. If I had to pick any faults with my stay it would be that I found the bed very hard and the invisible glass table caught me out (thankfully it is made of toughed glass) so we had to move it. That said, it would not put me off returning to this beautiful apartment and we are already looking at booking again next year.

The location and apartment were absolutely fantastic!

This apartment was just a couple of mins walk to the train station to St Ives and 5mins from the beach (downhill....a bit longer uphill!). I honestly don't think it could have been more perfectly located. The bedrooms were great if you had young children as you can leave the doors open to hear them. The balcony opened to a fantastic view of the ocean and lighthouse, that I wasn't expecting and was far bigger than I thought. I loved that this apartment had everything that we needed in terms of things for the kitchen; lots of glasses, cups, plates and cooking utensils, pots and pans. The child cot was very good quality, sturdy and better than our one at home. Some minor suggestions (feel free not to publish) - perhaps move the sofa a bit closer to the TV to give more room in the kitchen area, which could get a bit tight - let people know you have plastic cups and plates for kids - a big plus to not have to bring them All in all we loved this stay. Feel free to edit and use the above feedback.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay at Halcyon.

The location is great being right by the train station which helps to get in and out of St Ives if you don’t fancy the walk. Being close to Carbis Bay Hotel, the restaurants and the beach is great, the view from the property is amazing directly out to the sea and over to Godrevy Beach. We would definitely come back. However, there are improvements that can be made by the management team… first of all we went at the end of February, it was still very cold, yet the heating hadn’t been on and it was very cold in the apartment, it took 24 hours for it to heat up. Secondly, there was sand under the rug in the lounge, and the sinks were dirty, the apartment clearly hadn’t been cleaned and prepared properly. And lastly there was no welcome pack, loo roll or basic amenities upon arrival which was just poor. These can all be solved with a little more care and attention to detail, but it doesn’t leave a good impression that you look after the properties properly.
