What our customers say about their holidays

A lovely cottage and very comfortable indeed.
Enjoyed staying there. However, there are a few things which made us mark down the property unfortunately and they are as follows : 1. No milk provided on arrival - I know this is not a given, but it is always a very welcome gesture, especially when you have had a long journey (which we did) and a cup of tea is what you desire !! 2. Cutlery - a good proportion of the cutlery had to be hand washed before using due to being very unclean/dirty. Perhaps they had been placed in an over-full dishwasher the night before and put away without being checked. Not the best thing to find, especially after the pandemic ! 3. Fridge Door - We were disappointed to find that the fridge was rather small, but also it was lacking a shelf at the bottom of the door in order to stand milk in. We therefore had to buy lots of one pint cartons instead, which obviously took up a lot of room and is more expensive ! We did note in the Visitors Book that other people had commented on this also. 4. Bin - The bin supplied in the kitchen was lovely and big, however, the foot pedal was visibly broken and could not be used. Therefore each time you had to lift up the lid with your hand. Again, not ideal for hygiene and cleanliness. A replacement bin could have been easily sourced by the owners. Overall, a lovely cottage in a super location, however, the above points did spoil it somewhat, especially bearing in mind the cost of renting the cottage for the week !! Your comments in return would be welcomed. Many thanks Jeremy Wallis and Lindsay Barker

Little Gem !
What a find. No one could not enjoy their stay here. The property is of a high standard throughout, very clean and a great deal of care has been taken in its presentation. One of the best we have stayed in over 30 years. The description of the property under sells it and a number of key aspects are missing from the listing. There is a washing machine, large modern Smart TV, bath in one of the bathrooms, (we nearly did not book as grandad likes a bath) hairdryer in each bedroom, both bedrooms just have room for a blow up bed for a child to sleep, we took our own. Lots of room for a travel cot in both bedrooms. There is a hose in the garden to clean down the bikes, whilst Sutton Bank is only a few miles away (mountain bike heaven) Although in a rural location the WiFi was excellent all week. Well kept garden and small patio outside the kitchen door which we assume would be is lovely to sit in during the summer months. The national birds or prey centre and Thirsk birds of prey are both short drives away. Both are excellent. The owner was very quick to reply to our text and was very helpful. We would highly recommend this property. Kevin, Debbie, Thomas and Grandad.

A really tastefully furnished cottage with all amenities you could wish for.
There were candles throughout should you wish to create an even more cosy atmosphere. Situated within easy reach of Thirsk, Sutton Bank and beautiful walks. We drove to the coast (1hr) and to the Dales (also 1hr) on a few days so it really allows the best of both worlds. A little disappointed that after booking we were told that the garden would become shared as we wouldn't have booked this cottage had we known, but thankfully we only had neighbours for half our stay so had it to ourselves for some of the time. The second bathroom was really a cloakroom with a shower in so a little misleading, and the balcony from the bedroom was more of an external stairway down to the ground level outside. Slightly better signposting from the main road or written instructions may be of benefit but we only went wrong once! Overall one of the best kept cottages we have stayed in and I would recommend it to anyone.

We first booked for May and Sykes site said enclosed garden with views (no views apart from a large barn), when we got there we found it a shared garden.
Checked the site to find, shared garden had been added. We would not have booked this site if it had stated this when first booked, also when we checked this it also said no dogs. Half mile from house to empty bins - grease on wall behind cooker - no blinds in kitchen looking straight into next door - boot room was a utility room with no boot storage or heater to dry wet gear - wet room was a loo with a shower and a hole in the plastic cladding in the shower partly used loo roll - up stairs loo again partly used, no extra loo rolls provided, no loo roll holder bath looked as though it was not cleaned and mould around bath - walls up the stairs grubby from hand marks - no hoover just a hand brush and a wet mop and bucket - no instructions for TV remote and the TV pixelling on most channels Thirsk and the area to visit is excellent, will be going back to this area, will we use Sykes!

We enjoyed our stay at the cottage, there are a few things that I think could make things even better.
The steps at the entry to the cottage are quite steep and on a slope, a handrail there would be really useful. One of our party actually fell off the steps at one point! There's a good selection of cutlery in the kitchen, although adding a set of kitchen tongs would be useful for cooking. It would be worth mentioning there is no shaver socket available in the cottage. We ended up buying a 2 pin adapter plug to charge toothbrushes/shavers. For the cost it would be good to have one in the cottage. The TV in the sitting room is a great size, however it seems to have a dark band across the top 1/3 of the screen. Not sure what's going on but I think it may be on it's way out. One final bit of feedback, the walls in the cottage are starting to look a bit run down. They are all quite badly marked in almost every room, a coat of paint would really smarten the place up.
