What our customers say about their holidays
Hannah - Verified booking
Arriving on Friday evening we were able to park right outside and easily get into the properly.
On entry to the hallway of the building, we were taken back by how well the old building has been restored. After making our way upstairs we were very pleased to see that all our needs were catered for. A delightful hallway for us to take off our boots and hang our jackets, before entering into the double height living space with original features (even the old dock) lovingly restored and modernised all of which are tastefully done. The kitchen is very well-equipped, if eating in you have absolutely everything you need. Once we have had gathered our bags, we explored the bedrooms, which I must say are a delight. Very luxurious and both with high spec ensuite facilities. The bed was very grand and comfortable with quality linens. Everything was very in keeping with the restoration of the old building but there are tasteful modern touches everywhere. From TVâs in living and sleeping areas to USB sockets for phone charging. Once we were settled we made the 2-minute walk into the centre of the village and had a couple of drinks, returning to eat at the lovely dining table. On the Saturday we walked out to the falls which is a quick jaunt down through the village before heading up on a very scenic walking route which bring you back down into the village enjoy one of the several pubs and good food establishments. Although we were rained on, we found getting back to the court house nice and easy as the hallway of both the main building and the hallway to the accommodation has matts and boot storage making it an easy and comfortable place to get back to. The building itself is stunning, inside and out. The scale of the place is magnificent. With the building being so solid there was no noise heard from the other spaces. We really got the feeling of complete comfort and privacy. It was great value for money given both the location and quality of the accommodation . 5+ stars. We will be booking another stay.

Unfortunately, we felt very disappointed with the stay and left after 5 nights in the property, having paid for 7.
We drove 7hours to get to the property and having stayed in many local self-catering homes within Port Issac, found it a shame that a welcome package was not offered, as all of the other properties we had stayed in offered one, that were also self-catering. On arrival, we were shocked to find that the cul-de-sac, the property dwelled within, was not as aesthetically pleasing, as we'd been led to believe and realised now, this is why you cannot see pictures of the front of the property. For us, it felt like a set of caravan esc homes than many other homes listed within the area. For the extremely high cost to rent the property for a week (July), we were not informed that this particular cul-de-sac housed a large collection of seagulls, which are protected animals. Thus realising during our stay that they housed themselves on the roof of the property. The noise of the constant squawk (day and night) along with the movement on the roof meant we managed very little sleep and therefore decided to vacate the property earlier than we had planned. Not forgetting, your car will be destroyed by the seagulls excrement. Positives for this property are that it has been done up well inside by the owner and was mostly clean throughout. The car parking space was small and directly outside the property, meaning that you saw your car outside the front windows but this did not bother us as much as the seagulls did. We therefore would not recommend this property and would not stay ourselves in this property again.

To start with, directions were sketchy and the place was badly signed from the road, and could only be seen coming from the opposite direction.
It was trying after a long drive. The cottage was comfortable but space was very limited. There was no room for a dog bed, and nowhere to stow our suitcases except on the spare beds. The facilities were pretty OK. Not so keen on the bathroom being just a sliding door away from the kitchen, not sure if that is legal, but shower was good. There was no room to do things like drawing, jigsaw puzzles etc for when it was raining, which happened a lot during the week we were away, NOT your fault! Furniture and beds were comfortable and the electric heating worked well, but some of the decor was 'tired'. The walls to the neighbouring cottages were thin so a bit noisy at times. Outside space for the dog was excellent. In the end we came home a day early because the cottage was so cramped and there was no room for pastimes to occupy us when it was raining, also no phone signal was a big disadvantage when my husband needed to be contacted by his Clinical Nurse Specialist during treatment for cancer and the builder working on our house while we were away could not contact us. Neither could we contact them unless we drove out of the village and the whole point of this particular holiday was to relax and not have to go anywhere much while we were there. All in all, the holiday did not meet our expectations of a relaxing week by the sea, exacerabated of course by Covid restrictions so we couldn't go out for a meal, but that also is NOT your fault.

The cottage is very well fitted out and has good facilities - especially if it is for two people visiting.
It is decorated to a very high standard. Its position makes access to the centre of Port Isaac very easy. Parking is not that easy unless you have a very small car. Some thoughts for improvements: a recycling bin in the kitchen - There is only one bin, which means that everything goes into it. Whilst there is a recycling bin outside, it makes life too difficult to separate and keep piles of rubbish in the kitchen ; Despite there being comments on the listing previously about the lack of information with regards the heating and water heating, there is still no information available. When we were on our break, it was cold and we needed to turn heating on and up. This proved very frustrating. Also, the hot water tank is quite small, especially if there were four people staying in the cottage ; No Cafetière - This would be a useful addition ; The time of access and departure does make it quite frustrating. Only being allowed into the cottage at 4 oâclock on the day of booking means that you cannot make best use of the facilities and area. And having to leave at 9 am makes it a very rushed departure. Given that these conditions were probably brought in during Covid, as a holiday management team, you should look at these timings. We would not book a cottage again with such restrictive access. Thank you.

We have used Sykes cottages many times before and this was the first time we have had cause for complaint.
First impressions of the cleanliness of the cottage were good but we soon realised it had not been cleaned properly and there was a lot of dog hairs. Underneath the furniture had not been cleaned and we also found a used tissue under one of the sofas. There was a lot of dust and hairs underneath them and this could have easily cleaned by just pulling the sofa out. Also when we lifted the rug we found that the floor around it wasnât as clean as underneath it. We realised that my husband was having a reaction to the pet hairs as he kept getting a tickley cough whenever we were in the property and especially at night, which even though he has never had any reaction to pets before it has totally disappeared since we have been home. The cooker instructions were a bit confusing and the grill came on with the oven and burnt the outside while the inside was still raw, hence we didnât cook in the property. An iron was provided but no ironing board. Previous properties we have stayed in with Sykes have been let by the owners but this one we noticed was looked after by a letting company so you didnât get the personal touches to the stay and it will definitely be something I make sure of next time.
