What our customers say about their holidays
Jan - Verified booking
We had a pleasant stay for a few days .
It is a very nice area with plenty of places nearby to visit and the park is small and quiet. The welcome gifts of prosecco , chocolate and crisps were much appreciated, a nice touch . Unfortunately I was quite unwell so we had to stay onsite longer than anticipated each day .We did have a few issues but we contacted the owner Chris and they were dealt with quickly and efficiently. eg a broken shower and chipped crockery and no kitchen bin was provided and also struggled to initially find the place ( the directions on Sykes site are less than useless ) but Chris kindly talked through directions for us so we got there ok in end . Just as a side note I think the property could benefit from maybe a teapot , some egg cups and more ovenware, not essential but would be useful . The utensils could be checked as well as there was a melted spatula . However the site itself had issues. The little shop/ tavern on the site did not open at all from the day we arrived and had a sign saying it would re open the day we left ( dues to unforseen circumstances ) . The electricity was off from 9am until 5pm one of the days due to electricity works nearby but we had no prior notice of this happening . Again the following morning for another 2 hours . Just small things but all add up when a person has paid good money for a holiday . I wouldn't want this to be perceived as a "bad" review just informative . It is certainly an accessible place to visit all the surrounding attractions of which there are many . Also as previous mentioned the caravan owner was very obliging the instant we had requests.

One of our best family UK stays yet!
We ended up being moved to Millstream Ridge due to an issue with the Beeches. We we're informed ahead of time and got the key code before we even left our home. Sarah was great at sorting us out. It's the same layout and just a few cabins up so this review will cover the original lodge too. On arrival there were some lovely touches with fresh milk and local produce provided. The cabins are away from the hustle and bustle, and with little traffic made a safe space for us to explore (we have a 4 year old). Also great to retreat back to in the evenings after a full day out. The lodge itself was modern, clean and well layed out, and had a lovely patio overlooking the wildflowers.Out of all the lodge style homes we've stayed in, this was by far the most equipped and homely feel lodge. The washing machine came in handy especially after a trip to Go Ape. Location wise we were 20 mins by car from Windermere, Grizedale and Ulveston and the steam train station was 4 mins in the car. Perfect for a rainy day with little ones. It did get busy so get there a good 20-30 mins before the train departs. We really got to explore all parts of the local area which was fab as there was lots to keep all entertained. We did a quick shop at m&s about 15 mins away, they picked up a few bits from the local towns when we were out and about. Overall we had a fab time and we're looking forward to booking again next year!

Ambleside is a beautiful property and we really enjoyed our stay.
Thank you so much and we wish you well with your venture. We've stayed in quite a number of self-catering cottages and there is normally something that we're not quite happy with, but Ambleside and Colebrook Fisheries and Lodges were perfect. The view, the comfort, your hospitality - everything. The beds were more comfortable than ours at home and the showers more powerful and we were really impressed with how clean the property was and how many places we had to store belongings. Despite its size the cabin didn't feel small at all. If we're being really demanding, then a welcome hamper with a few provisions would have been handy (there was tea, coffee and sugar but no milk or butter) - but as you're only a short 5 minute drive to supermarkets it wasn't too much of a hardship to buy. A couple of games or jigsaws would have been ideal on the rainy day to keep the girls off their tablets but we enjoyed just admiring the view - even in the rain.

We enjoyed our stay in Northumberland.
Willowburn was a pleasant caravan on a very quiet site. The caravan was spotlessly clean when we arrived and in good condition. Nice welcome gifts on arrival too. The property does require some updating. The double bed in particular was very uncomfortable and the mattress slopes to each side. The sofa was also a bit tired. No pods provided for the coffee machine so bring your own! Internet is poor and cut out several times. There is a great park on site. The site over the bridge has the Crazy Horse Saloon which was good. The main issue with this site is the smell. Particularly at night there is a very strong sewage smell right outside the caravan so we didnât open windows or doors. The site is located well on the A1 and is a great base to explore Northumberland. Our favourite was Alnmouth but we also visited Bamburgh, Embleton, Low Newton, Craster, Amble, Alnwick, Druridge Bay and Warkworth. Overall it was great value for money.

This is a lovely lodge in a spectacular place.
Secluded, but with views. The owners are on site and particularly helpful and friendly, without being obtrusive. We walked, kayaked and cycled for a week and could have continued for another week. There is so much to d here. The bird and sea life is quite special and worthy of attention; as are the woods close to the accommodation where you can see see deer, red squirrel and tree finches (not to mention the other varied bird life). The lodge abounds in guide books, information and maps relating to all sorts of activities in the vicinity - visiting Culloden, walking up Glen Affric, cycling to Cromarty and over to Nigg and any number of local walks. The lodge provides a perfect place to just chill out with beautiful views. Definitely somewhere one would want to return.
