What our customers say about their holidays

Unrelated to this property, Sykes had already cancelled our original booking due to a leak, no apology cancelling so late on, we were left with trying to find an alternative.
We found that Helton Fell was available for the same period. The property itself is very centrally located, in the middle of the high street so easy access to everything in Kendal. It's well equipped, well finished, little extras like a Bose Link where you could play music was great. Very clean & tidy, plenty of seating which is comfortable, no shortage of kitchenware, plates, cuttlery, glasses etc. overall it was a great property. Our main issue, which to date we are still waiting for Sykes to acknowledge our complaint & confirm how they intend to deal with, the listing says king size bed in the main bedroom with zip link in the other bedroom that can be made up to a kingsize bed, neither are correct. We called the owner to see if we were doing something wrong, she confirmed that they are 2 twins, neither are or could be kingsize beds. It wasn't a big issue but on reviewing the listing the pictures had been taken to suggest the main bedroom was a kingsize bed, this is a deliberate mis-sell / false marketing of the property which I called out to Sykes, I asked for this to be logged as a complaint, to date we haven;t heard from Sykes, haven't had a complaint reference so assume they simply don't care & are happy to do nothing about it! The owner was lovely, exchanged a bunch of phone calls & she was always at the end of the phone & offered info when we asked. I would recommend this property as it really is a lovely, clean & comfy apartment but you will be staying in single beds.

We had a wonderful stay in Kendal.
We booked last minute and I hoped that the listing details would be as good as they sounded - and they absolutely were. The apartment was so welcoming, comfortable and filled with fittings and furnishings that showed that the property is loved and cared for and the finer details have been carefully considered throughout. Itâs so nice to come somewhere that has lovely crockery, cutlery and most importantly good mugs!! The apartment was spotless from top to bottom. Kendal is the perfect base to explore the lakes from. We certainly made the most of our National Trust membership and tagged in plenty of other adventures along the way. Although the property doesnât have a designated parking space, this was never a problem. The 3 day parking permit which can be bought so easily from the machines, is such a good initiative by the local council. If you are visiting, this is a definite must do! The weather was hot when we first arrived so we had to have the windows open at night to start with, there was some noise from the high street into the night but it wasnât the end of the world. When the windows were shut there was none! Some lovely places to eat and drink in Kendal. The welcome book was a great help to get us started and we wandered and found even more. I would certainly return to the property and recommended to family and friends when we got home. A much needed, enjoyable break, was underpinned by the superb space at Helton Fell. Thank you!

Lovely cottage.
The bedrooms were well furnished and the beds were all comfortable. The kitchen had everything needed. The lounge was lovely. The windows in the lounge and main bedroom were very difficult to open and had to be wedged to stay open. For an older couple this would be very difficult to do. The property was very warm almost stuffy so having a fan provided was very welcome. The parking whilst tight wasnât too much of a problem. It would be useful if the spaces were fully marked out and painted on the ground. The difficulty of trying to speak to someone about a matter after our trip was a little worrying. I donât feel confident if we had run into a major issue like missing keys or something during our trip we would have been able to get hold of anyone in good time. The number given was a landline and mostly automated. It kept repeating I should go online to resolve any problems we had. I had to leave a message and wait for someone to call me back. This wasnât an issue this time, as our holiday had finished but imagine urgently needed assistance and there is no one available. To be honest that lack of support available would stop me booking again.

The property's location was perfect for me and also dog friendly too.
So peaceful (silence and no light poution), beautiful views, and not too far from a couple of pubs and the village of Hawkshead. The field adjoining the property was perfect to let my dog Minnie, have a safe run around. I stopped in the Coniston accommodation which was perfect for me, very clean and very comfortable. I had previously read reviews that highlighted that you could hear some noise from the flat above but i accepted that risk when I booked. My lived experience was that during the first 4 days (of my 6 day stay) I heard very little. My last 2 nights was slightly more challenging though. Dont get me wrong, I didn't feel like I had part of the Riverdance dance troop staying above me but the level of noise did increase. Im not sure what the owners can do, other than let the flat above be very aware that not wearing clogs would be more than appreciated by those downstairs. I would advise that if you are easily irritated by any noise from above, then the Coniston isnt for you. I will be going back for sure.
