What our customers say about their holidays

We reported several issues during our stay; 1: Hall lighting - non existent.
Reported Monday 19th June - resolved Friday 21st June with electrician in attendance. 2: Main bathroom lighting - only 1 of 2 inadequate wall lights working - bulb was completely missing and had never been replaced leaving the room incredibly dark given the dark wooden slat blind (required to be down at all times due to the property to the rear). With a shower over the bath and no handles or non slip bath mat it didn't feel very safe. We checked the understairs cupboard but no bulb there to fit. Reported on Monday 19th June - never resolved during our entire stay. 3: The downstairs shower wasn't getting warm at all and the shower head was broken. Shower curtain sits too high above the tray so the moment the shower was switched on the entire floor was soaking wet. Reported 19th June - plumber arrived Wednesday 26th and was never resolved. 4: Major issue with flies from the middle weekend - Saturday 24th June onwards. They appeared to be coming from inside the very rotten sash windows which was really unpleasant with 30-40 emerging each time approx 3 times a day for the rest of our stay! Reported and never resolved. This house requires an awful lot of maintenance and the garden is incredibly overgrown. The beds creak constantly. The floorboards either side of the bath are rotting. The kitchen equipment is so basic without so much as a serving spoon. The fact that the washing machine is in an incredibly musty outhouse should be mentioned in the details to prospective customers. The information folder for the house was hidden inside the meter cupboard above the breakfast bar and should be on full view for arriving guests. Why were you not aware of the issues we raise as surely they should have been reported back by cleaners during the turnaround between guests and should have been rectified? We have asked for a cost adjustment for our holiday and I understand that this has been passed to the relevant team and I look forward to hearing from you.

Let's address the elephant in the room first.
.. as a previous reviewer stated, there are ONLY TWO TEA TOWELS. Yes, the cottage is extremely well equipped, very comfortable set in peaceful countryside, with beautiful sea views, it is a perfect setting. Yes, there is a dishwasher and a draining board and if necessary shops that sell additional plate drying equipment and/or numerous restaurants in Cornwall where they will wash AND dry your plates for you... but the limited tea towel numbers is definitely the most important issue here - truly holiday ruining stuff! :-) Joking aside - a couple of practical comments: Dogs - the location, (close to beaches, St Nectan's Glen and numerous walks/public footpaths), the lawn at the front and the cottage being pet friendly makes this a perfect cottage for dog owners. However, please note that there is no enclosed garden therefore if you have young or adventurous dogs, you will not be able to let them out without a lead. Also, the owner does not allow dogs in the bedrooms. WiFi - The cottage has WiFi but it was a bit temperamental at times. Whilst this was a definite bonus for us as it can be a relief to be away from a screen, I am also aware, (being self-employed), that sometimes it is necessary for emails/work reasons. The cottage is in a very rural location therefore it is to be expected that their WiFi is not the fastest, it was fine for probably 80% of the time but don't expect to rely on it. In summary, the cottage is truly fabulous - the views, the garden, the proximity to local amenities, the clean, pretty, comfortable and well equipped living space. It is perfect... unless you are a volume tea towel fan! :-)

On arrival it was a struggle to open the main door.
When entering we had noticed lack of cleanliness windows were all smudged and marked mirrors were also dirty too, cobwebs found everywhere. The downstairs toilet light was constantly flickering when using it. The upstairs landing light also flickered, the master bedroom main light was not working at all (but got replaced when got in touch with maintenance), the main bathroom had broken floor tiles, the second set of double doors in the living area was a wrestling match to open close and lock so we didnt open them again, there was a chip on the hob in the kitchen, all the lamp shades need cleaning or replacing as they were dirty, the hot tub cover was covered in bird droppings which had not been cleaned in a while, they had used slate surroundings the area so be aware that you'll need some foot wear getting in and out of the hot tub, I'd also recommend an umbrella whilst in the hotub to avoid getting bird dropping on you. It should really have a canopy over it like one of the neighbouring hottubs has. Could do with replacing sofas badly worn and sunken and lingering smell off dog ( which i understand it was a pet friendly accomadation but could be cleaned properly) there are some good poits though, the beds were comfy the hotub it self was nice, when your not getting bird droppings on you, the showers in bath main bathroom and ensuite were good. The wifi helped alot as it is a complete signal deadspot, plenty of cutlery and crockery provided. We would stay again if a few upgrades and general maintenance were done. We paid 850 for the week and although was cheap for the accommodation you can see why it was cheap.

We really enjoyed our stay in the Lookout.
It is a very tastefully furnished house, well equipped and decorated with an eye for the detail. The view from the front rooms is spectacular! The house is a little older but very clean and Georgina, the housekeeper, and her husband are really friendly and supportive. It should be mentioned, though, that the house canât be reached by car at all. You have to carry all your luggage and the shopping up a steep and narrow little lane, which is a little tedious. We found parking quite difficult as well. We drive a rather large car and so we ended up parking the car well out of Mousehole up the hill most evenings. So more specific information in advance on these two aspects would be helpful and fair. Nevertheless, we would book the house again, since we really felt at home there. We think it is a pity that the garden is not in a better condition, though. It would be a really lovely place to sit. The lower lock of the front door blocks, so on our arrival it took us more than half an hour to open the door, which was not a pleasant experience after a long journey. We called ALL the numbers provided by Sykes (including the one of the local property manager), but couldnât reach anybody. So for about half an hour we were quite worried that we wouldnât have a place to stay the night. In the end we managed to turn the key, but we really think that lock should be changed. The house also provides a washing machine, which isnât mentioned in the description of the property. So that was a pleasant surprise.

We just had a wonderful stay with our 3 dogs at Myrtle Cottage.
The cottage has 3 large bedrooms with plenty of space for all our stuff. It is cosy, comfortable and the smart tv was great in the evenings. I loved the 3 dog âpacksâ which were provided which included fluffy blanket, towel, dog bowl and jar of treats for each of my dogs. The kitchen has all the appliances and equipment you need on holiday and the practical boot cupboard and utility with washer and dryer was well used by us. The back garden is safe and secure for our dogs with fencing and gates. The location of the cottage was ideal for us. We were only a few minutes from Gwithian beach and some fabulous coastal and beach walks up to Godrevy (National Trust walk) and the lighthouse. We saw seals on the beach there. We could be in St Ives in 10 mins by car and it is so pretty and filled with lovely independent shops and restaurants. We drove to Lands End and Lizard point could explore south and west Cornwall with ease as everywhere was so close. Recommend Porthleven and Kota restaurant and the Tolcarne inn in Newlyn. Lovely walks and garden at Trengwaiton National Trust which is only 15 mins drive and great dog walk at Godolphin estate also 20 mins drive. The cottage owner Liz, was easily contactable and answered any questions we had. Would happily recommend Myrtle Cottage - especially if you have dogs ( or even if you donât!) - as we spent a thoroughly enjoyable week there exploring Cornwall
