What our customers say about their holidays

The cottage was well appointed and of course in a fantastic location with views and access to spectacular scenery.
Overall we had an enjoyable stay but there were niggles and annoyances; we would return again but better prepared through these experiences. The oil-heating system I suspect was a bit past its prime and not fit for purpose; the three ancient-looking radiators in the main room barely took the edge of the cold; we fared better in the bedroom, much more cosy, but only because the owners had thoughtfully supplied electric blankets plus there was double-glazing fitted. On this basis it felt more a spring, summer and autumn property. There was an large open fire in the living room and again the owners had thoughtfully supplied a large basket of wood, firelighters and newspaper - but no matches. I didn't fancy a pitch-black drive along miles of chicaning single track to Pooley Bridge and had to wait for the day after. It would've been useful for the literature to suggest we bring a box or be told this when we contacted the owner/agent about when we expected to arrive. An axe would also have been useful as the wood - and most wood then bought from surrounding villages and B&M and B&Q in Penrith - were Sequoia chunks. I ended up like Mr. Universe bellowing and wafting the grate for hours getting the fire bed hot enough and able to then devour the large chunks on its own. Once the fire was going it was great in the living room but an axe would have been useful to chop these into more manageable pieces initially. We had a RCD blow taking out random, unrelated appliances like the kettle, fridge, Sky Box, TV and WiFi. The info folder made no mention of the fuse box's location; we could not contact the owners as there was no 'phone signal and of course no WiFi. After twenty minutes of 'Hunt the Fuse Box' I eventually located it behind a door with no handle at the back of the living room managing to get a finger in and prise it open. I found in fact no RCD had blown but got power back by pushing the test switch up (...?!). There were one or two other things but it'll just sound like moaning; it was just little, overlooked things that irritated but finally didn't dampen a good stay.

On arrival I did struggle to find the cottage as we arrived in the dark but luckily some friendly locals helped.
It did say space for 2 cars but not sure where you would have parked the other car but they have a small driveway for one car which was great. The front garden is big and enclosed for any dogs to roam. The cottage is lovely, it was immaculately clean and refurbished to a high standard throughout. The living room/ dining room is average size but very nice with a log burner, underfloor heating and a smart tv. The Wifi was excellent which was useful as I had poor mobile signal. The Kitchen was average size with high end appliances except for the kettle which probably needs replacing. They left a bottle of wine for our arrival which was a kind gesture so thank you. However no essentials like milk, tea or coffee etc so make sure to take your own. The downstairs bathroom was handy with a shower and toilet. The main upstairs bedroom had an ensuite bathroom with a hot and powerful shower and a TV also which was great. All the bedrooms were a decent size and really nicely decorated. Especially the kids bedroom which has been very thoughtfully decorated with bunk beds and lovely decor. We had a really lovely stay here. There is a co op a short walk from the cottage, a local pub and a railway station but thats about it however it is a lovely village with walks nearby. We drove out to many lovely places. I really would recommend this cottage. It was lovely and quiet as its link detached so no noise from neighbours. It is on a road but it's not very busy and I hardly noticed any road noise. Thank you so much to Judith and Zeke for a lovely stay. Me, my mum and the dog had a great time. And thank you to the cleaners for ensuring it was very clean throughout the whole property. This a lovely place to stay for a holiday in the Lakes and would definitely recommend to anybody looking for a relaxing break.

We were purposely looking for somewhere just outside the Lake District National Park as we know that offers far better value, is less congested, and yet is just as beautiful, and within easy reach of the parts of the park we wanted to visit.
Rose Cottage fitted the bill perfectly, and we somehow knew that once we established that the owner runs her own B&B business elsewhere in the Lakes, every detail would be taken care of by someone whose own livelihood revolves around welcoming visitors. Lazonby itself and the surrounding villages are lovely and mostly peaceful, yet the road access to most busier parts of the Lake District is excellent. While the cottage is less than 10 minutes' walk from the railway station, lying on the famous Settle & Carlisle railway line, you do really need a car to make the most of your stay. We arrived as two family groups, and were able to park both our vehicles reasonably easily. We had an eventful time getting to grips with the cottage's hob and oven, but overall all of the appliances are excellent - probably more than most people will need on holiday. Another good touch was the plentiful supply of crockery and cutlery, as we find many holiday cottage owners only leave a bare minimum. The village's Co-op store is large and generally well-stocked, but you're only 20 minutes' drive from the town of Penrith where there are two large supermarkets, so keeping supplied isn't a problem. One minor quibble would be about the bedding supplied - this was probably fine for visitors at cooler times of the year, but in the main bedroom at least, is somewhat over-generous for the summer, and we were rather warm on most nights. A lighter-weight duvet as an alternative to the one supplied would be just the job!

We had such a brilliant stay at Little Winder, the cottage was perfect for us and our little dog.
We enjoyed walks from the door step, (Including Athurâs Pike and Bonscale Pike) watched the red squirrels playing in the trees from the window and slept peacefully after days of hiking. The location and views from the cottages was superb. The cottage itself has a good sized entrance hall to take off your walking gear and a shared drying room next door to hang anything wet out on the heaters. The Amazon TV was great and we just logged into our Netflix in the evening or watched the free view channels from the comfy sofa. Kitchen had everything we needed to cook tea each night, there isnât a freezer on its own just a small compartment in the fridge but we only needed ice so no issue for us. The bed was big and comfortable, the shower was compact but lovely and powerful and hot. There was a secure dog field to let the dog off the lead and have a good play. The hosts were brilliant, made sure we had everything we needed and left us a welcome gift which was such a nice touch. We would definitely stay again.

This is a nice, newly renovated cottage in the Village of Lazonby.
Being so near the Railway Station means that you can leave the car at home and travel to Carlisle or Skipton (Leeds if you prefer) directly. It is also near Penrith and not that far to Keswick. There is an excellent Co-Op in the Village with helpful and friendly staff. The Midland Hotel has now reopened. Rose Cottage has many high spec features, it's a lovely cottage, so that I have only minor criticisms. The freezer needs to be accommodated into the Kitchen, going out to the garage is a real pain. The Village has many lorries going through it, some on their way to Bell's Bakery at the station, so the road can be quite noisy and busy. Yapping dogs and people talking loudly are sometimes minor irritations. On the whole great, and luckily no dog smells in the house. Not being a dog owner, you are spared the boring stories of how Fido loved to romp around the pretty garden etc etc.
