What our customers say about their holidays
Anne Marie - Verified booking
I really liked the unspoilt feel of the building, sufficiently converted for comfort without losing its character.
The wooden bolt which closes the bottom half of the door is EXTREMELY stiff. I was never sure I'd be able to open / close it. I had to keep the bottom half bolted shut to prevent the neighbours' large dog bursting in. I kept the top half open to let in more light and to air the place whenever I was in. I had to buy an elastic cord to hold the top half open (I did look round for string) as it just swung shut each time. The hard floor and leather sofa/chair is a great option for keeping the place clean as dogs are allowed but the soft furnishings have absorbed the smell of dog, especially the cushions, which a person plumps up around their back and shoulders in use and so they are in close human contact - could these be changed weekly and laundered? All you would need is two sets. I found the bed and bed linen supremely comfortable! With the hair dryer plugged in there is no mirror within reach - upstairs or downstairs. Thank you for the wine, chocolates, milk, tea and coffee, they were very welcoming. I found the oven easy to use (I have gas at home) but having to use pan lids that were too large meant the condensation from boiling etc constantly spilled over onto the the stove top. The kitchen tap splashes/drips onto the painted shelf because it is too far back from the sink. When it rained a lot of water came in through the wall and puddled on the stone window ledge behind the sink (where all the soil is) - this then seeped away somewhere over the next couple of hours! I knew to expect dogs in the shared courtyard and I am not scared of dogs. I also know you ask people to use the shared spaces respectfully. However this message might need reinforcing. My thigh was hurt and bruised by the neighbours' large boisterous dog which constantly jumped up at me when I was going in and out and they were outside with the dogs. They tried holding it by its back legs but this was not effective. I really enjoyed my stay. I make these comments not as a criticism but as helpful feedback.

Lovely well equipped cottage in a beautiful location, ideally situated for Whitby, Grosmont - Goathland, Scarborough.
In fact you can walk out of the front door and enjoy stunning walks without travelling anywhere. The pub âThe Horse Shoe Innâ is literally next door a 20 meter walk across the grass where you can grab an excellent meal but you definitely need to book as itâs virtually impossible to walk in and just get a table! If you canât get into âThe Horse Shoe Innâ then the pubsâ sister pub which is 2 and a half miles away is an excellent option, seems to be easier to book a table in here called The Fox and Rabbitâ also an excellent meal. I walked down to Levisham station a couple of times to see the steam trains itâs a one and a half mile walk ( just over 3 miles there and back) the hills on the way back are quite challenging as they are seriously steep! Itâs also possible to walk to The Hole of Horcum from the cottage which is a beautiful setting. Nearest shops are back in Pickering where we stocked up out supplies, thereâs a LIDL and a Spar As for the cottage itself everything thought of, well equipped and comfortable, shower wonderful after a hot sweaty day walking, washing machine and line outside to dry, everything except the two armchairs in the kitchen which for some reason didnât have their cushions on them and we spent the majority of our time sat on these with small cushions as substitutes as it was so cool temperature wise in the kitchen area. The only other thing that we didnât like was the recycling arrangements, everybody by now recycles and itâs instilled in us and I have no problem putting bins and boxes outside to be collected by the bin men whilst on holiday but taking our bottles to bottle banks in Pickering which is seven miles away is a no go for us!

What a find.
This cottage ticks all the boxes. Just like home, well better than home, because we don't have a pub next door at home. My only request would be to have a smart speaker in the kitchen, but otherwise everything was better than expected. We had some lovely walks, although we passed on the walk down to the station because our dog couldn't jump over the stile at the top of the hill, and the walk along the road was very narrow in places, so we used the car. Park all day only £3, [Pickering is £7], but then you will have to get the train The pub next door, was very busy and we had to book 2 days in advance, even then they could be fully booked. Cant wait to return to Manor Cottage, as I said earlier what a find. Many thanks to the owners for renting this property. 5 stars

Booked this cottage for a quiet break to do some walking around North Yorkshire Moors.
The cottage was fine although we had some interesting moments with working the shower (figuring out where water was coming from, water going cold, we like simple!). Also we had neighbours who were friendly enough but so were their dogs. My partner is a bit nervous around dogs and struggled with having to dodge the dogs jumping up at us every time we encountered them and trying to get into our cottage. The weather was beautiful but we were not comfortable sitting in the garden because there was no peace from the dogs. Pickering is a very dog friendly area so anyone not keen, or has any issues with dogs should take this into account. Otherwise a great area to explore. Pickering is a lovely little town, lots of tearooms and pubs for food, all really nice.

Kept well informed about booking quick response from owners when had queries good price for length of stay.
.Cherry tree very quaint small but bigger than it looks on photographs bed comfy and was a wardrobe and chest of drawers on mezzanine level good strong and hot shower heating also good but still bit draughty around door and sitting room window areas.Husband managed to get fire going... eventually.Kitchen had everything you needed.Shared courtyard wasn't an issue as in March was not used for sitting out but in warmer months probably wouldn't be ideal there was some garden furniture but did not use and didn't look that comfy is also overlooked.Nearby Chinese and Indian restaurants did not bother us didn't find it particularly noisy overall enjoyed our stay.
