  We stayed for a week to celebrate 45th and 50th wedding anniversaries. The cottage was charming but we had some initial issues which we tried to relay to our housekeeper. We were unable to contact her at any time even to get the key code. We had to phone Rural Retreats direct. A housekeeper in the next cottage helped to replace glasses and a broken toaster,(the cottage sleeps six but there were not enough wine glasses or champagne glasses for 6) and supplied extra towels as the heated towel rail was faulty. We have stayed with Rural Retreats before and had a marvelous time, but definitely felt that the cottage was not as clean or well kept and the crockery etc was not checked. We also had a very damp and peeling wall in our bedroom which should have been repaired before our visit. This was a trip we were all looking forward to, the rental price is not cheap and we felt a little disappointed that we had to spend precious time trying to sort out problems. Rural Retreats did contact us to check that things had been rectified, but we did not want to have someone repairing a wall whilst we were in the cottage and it would have been preferable to have everything in place before we arrived. We had the impression that it was definitely 'end of season'. We love the Lizard and made the most of our stay, but hope that our comments will be noted for future reference. If there had been a complete check on the cottage between guests we would have had no cause for complaint at all.

  We are regular visitors - which reflects our long-standing affection for the area and the lighthouse in particular I have given five stars, as the accommodation is clean, well equipped and perfect for a break away from work. I only have one gripe - we did find the move to a Friday changeover immensely inconvenient. The Lizard is a remote part of the UK which is part of the charm, but this means that it is a long distance for most guests to travel. A Friday changeover leads to you either taking an extra day off work or being forced to miss a day on your holiday . It also causes you to travel on a busy work day rather than a leisurely drive down on a Saturday. Not sure why the change has been introduced, it doesn’t benefit the customer experience.

  Great location and well furnished, although for the 2nd year on the trop the boiler tripped. Also disappointed with Rural Retreats hamper, nottle of wine instead of ground coffee would have been preferred as would a loaf of bread instead of fudge Also disappointed that I was told that we could only book for minimum of 7 days (in May !) only to find people there from Saturday to Tuesday. Basically my gripes do not put me off booking, possibly 9/10 visits, because it is a fantastic building in a wonderful location. The Lizard Peninsular is something special. Will be back next year and hopefully no ****** ground coffee 👍😃 My 5 star rating is for the property and location, not for RR who do not seem to appreciate repeat customers

  Spectacular accommodation with lovely sea views. Lovely and close to the coast path and to take the dog on some long walks. Bed was very comfy and generally the accommodation was very impressive all round. Helpful that it had a downstairs bedroom with ensuite for my elderly parents who would not have managed the steep stairs. The fog signal went off quite a few times and you are very close to it so pretty noisy outside! Inside not so bad and you get used to it and in the end, I was looking forward to it going off! It is a working lighthouse so that must be taken into consideration.
