What our customers say about their holidays

  • Emma - Verified booking

    Fabulous weekend with the girls.

My oldest school friends and I met in Ludlow to celebrate my birthday. A Friday to Friday booking. Chose Sunningdale after careful research as the places in town centre had difficult and expensive parking and Sunningdale had great parking for 3 cars and only 10 minutes walk to town. Didn’t really clock the place had an added bonus, the games room! We had two nights of fun - juke box, air hockey, pool table and car racing to add to our enjoyment with our cocktail’s. The place warmed up quickly with electric heater even in Feb. All in all a very warm and comfortable house, probably the best equipped kitchen ever had, and once we’d worked out there was no kitchen bin and how to organise ourselves for the 4 types of rubbish we were sorted! Great upstairs bathroom. There’s even a charging station for two electric toothbrushes! Great beds. Luxury towels. And I’ve not even mentioned the home made cake, sweet treats, two bottles of wine and a cream topped milk. We enjoyed the castle, bread walk, river walk, unusual independent shops shopping, fat face, leaf and white stuff, Saturday market plus eating and drinking in Ludlow. Really good place for a girls weekend! Since the price was the same for the weekend as the week I stayed on to work for the week. I now want to live in Ludlow! Good office work space, good Wi-Fi. In the evenings I enjoyed two trips to the cinema (10 minutes walk) and Aqua Aerobics at the leisure centre (20 minutes walk), which I booked about two weeks before my visit no problem. During lunchtimes I nipped into town to get my steps in. Every second Thursday of month there’s the farmers market. But even if you don’t have that you have fabulous cheese, butchers, wine and deli shops everywhere. Only a 10 minutes walk to a massive Tesco if needed. All in all probably the most enjoyable self catering experience ever. Thank you to the hosts next door for sharing your lovely home with us.

The Generals Quarters surpassed our expectations.

beyond measure! We booked it for our son's 30th birthday, but what a fabulous location for a celebration of any kind. In fact there is also an orangery, in the grounds, which would be perfect for weddings with the Generals Quarters for accommodation! I was slightly nervous that there were steps to the entrance, as my 88 year old mother was travelling with us. The owner kindly put my mind at rest and I'm so glad that we went ahead and booked! My mother loved the place so much, we regularly found her whizzing up the stairs. alone (which are easy and have a good hand rail) so she could explore the surrounding premises! We were lucky to meet up with Nick who was restoring another wing of the house. He really brought the place to life so much, answered our endless questions and showed us lots of interesting features we would otherwise have missed. The panelled dining room was fabulous for our celebration and we appreciated the huge basket of logs for the beautiful fireplace fire too. With two staircases and such a wide choice of bedrooms and lounges and the pool room, we had a lot of fun just getting lost in the glory of it all for the first few hours! The kitchen is well equipped - we'd pre-prepared our food for ease, but it has a double oven cooker and lots of crockery, cutlery, glassware The grounds are fabulous and the photos of the outdoor area which is part of the Generals Quarters really don't do justice to how lovely this space is. In the wider grounds, the treehouse is just so quaint and rather incredible to think that Queen Victoria watched a hunt from here when she was a young princess! Recommended without hesitation and we are just looking for an excuse to go back!

    This is an incredible property.

History oozes from every beam and flagstone. The location is magical, you feel like you are in your own private world. 13 of us spanning from the ages of 2 to 95 stated here for my birthday. We had an incredible time. It is true that for the older members we had to be careful due to the 16 steps down to the house but the owners opened up a lower door for us. We had to carry my grandma up six steps in her wheelchair but she felt like it was the entrance of the Queen of Sheba so loved it. For such an old historic property it is incredibly well appointed and very clean. Of course there are issues with bits of restoration needed and the odd cobweb here and there but that is to be expected. It is an ongoing project in a Tudor house. The occasional power cuts in one side of the house could be seen as annoying, or you could just go to the fuse box and flip the switch and see it as an adventure. The internet is sketchy but fine in the sitting rooms and the big bedroom I stayed in upstairs (which was breathtaking) and you are having a break so maybe park those incessant Instagram flicking sessions for a while! The grounds are lovely. The treehouse is stunning and the orangery with peacocks was very peaceful. I cannot overstate how much I love this property. If you are looking for a pristine, sterile, modern, luxury box then go somewhere else, but if you have any kind of a soul and imagination then stay here. It was transformative for me for a week. A complete and utter joy from start to end. I cried when I left as I did not want to leave. Amazing.

    Not as described.

Very poor value for money We are pleased to note that since our visit in July and feedback given, reference to the property being suitable for those with limited mobility has now been removed from the description. It is not at all suitable and sadly that was the main reason we had booked this property. Wifi was extremely limited - just one or two rooms adjacent to the owner's part of the property but not available in the rest of the accommodation. It is a shame that the owners/Sykes did not properly take on board the comments from the feedback given in May before our stay in July as that would have been most helpful to us. The price quoted by Sykes increased by £1,000 overnight whilst we were booking and despite our request for the original price quoted we had to pay the increased price for the booking. The accommodation was not particularly well appointed, especially considering the price we paid. The General's Quarter's are part of a very interesting and historic building but not as well equipped for the 14 people it can sleep as we had anticipated - e.g. one fridge freezer was a real struggle for all of us for a week. On the plus side the beds were comfortable.

    We had a great weekend.

The place really suited our annual siblings weekend get together (party of 12). Large, good kitchen, good areas to eat and to socialise together. Grounds were particularly interesting. But I wouldn’t rush to recommend to others due to the bathroom issue on the main corridor 4 bedrooms (8 people) and only 2 shared bathrooms (and only 1 shower). We managed Ok, but it wouldn’t suit most visitors. Met Nick? who was friendly and helpful. Other small points: - high level of cleanliness in general - nice to find the biscuits, tea, coffee etc in the kitchen on arrival - we appreciated that you’ve tried hard with the Wi-Fi access - heating / hot water system was excellent - towels were a bit disappointing (especially for my sisters!) - the grass area available to guest (outside the main door) wasn’t very attractive/enticing to use - have you done all that is possible to deal with the fly issue in the kitchen? - dealing with Sykes over the EV charger was tortuous - I have fed that beck to them already I hope this feedback is helpful. But the main thing is that we had a very happy and memorable weekend. Many thanks and best wishes with the ongoing renovations.
