What our customers say about their holidays

We loved our stay - delightful historic tower, very clean, warm bathroom, lovely bed and beautiful bedroom, sparkling Christmas tree lights to greet us, log fire and loads of logs, drinks on the tower roof to see in new year. walks across the grounds, ride on the miniature train, and a huge number of interesting places to explore. (We have stayed at Pink Cottage before.) Lovely local bread, wine and other foods provided. We didn't use for the upstairs lounge - for us, a big TV and electric fire don't really go with a historic castle! Same with the Sonos speakers (we had to ask what they were!) Reasons we cannot give it 5 stars: toilet too far from the bedroom. Oven failed on our fifth day; we reported it but did not receive a reply - strange as we had received replies and help when the kettle and hob failed due to a tripped switch. While it was lovely to be provided with some foods, it seemed that our dietary requests, sent in when booking, had not reached whoever supplied them, so there were some things we couldn't use. We could have done with a lemon squeezer, tongs and a poker, but otherwise had everything we needed. (Incidentally we didn't rate the breakfast at the Brasserie - 'chef's omelette' chiefly featured bacon fat and rind, cheese and tomato in toasted croissant were stone cold, and in the cafe a paper cup of takeaway coffee was £3!!) We would certainly return to Pink Cottage but probably not the Knoll Tower. We have stayed with Rural Retreats several times and have booked a further break with them for later this year.

Amazing building, made a memorable and enjoyable short break for husband’s 50th birthday. Very relaxing, felt calm and peaceful and we didn’t want to leave! Quiet and secluded. Plenty of character. The tower was clean and warm and well appointed. Really liked the sitting room at the top of the tower (hubby appreciated the smart TV). Good WiFi. Negative: don’t rely on the welcome hamper! Juice and (tiny) bottle of milk were out of date, no eggs or bacon or cereal. Bring your own food! No shops nearby except the expensive deli, which didn’t really have much everyday food - eg we couldn’t buy milk there. Negative: a bit of very distant background noise at night from motorway and aeroplanes. But not really noticeable to most people, I suspect! Would love to know more history of the building and see any photos of the restoration (and how did they get the furniture in?!)

Once again, a really simple booking process, and accommodation that absolutely delivered for a New Year celebration. Absolutely stunning 3 storey tower + access to small roof terrace. In addition, access to 1000 acres of grounds for walking - felt like the Lord of the Manor, especially as the grounds were closed to the public. The supplied 'hamper' of essential supplies was to the usual high standard, including milk, butter, eggs, tea, coffee, biscuits, bread, pate, wine, cheese, fruit, jams and marmalade, cereals, etc, Only point of note, is the 39 stone steps up the tower from kitchen to sitting room. Quite tight, and tiring if you forget something, but added to the charm of the 'cottage'. After 4 nights and a perfect break, neither my wife or I wanted to leave such a tranquil spot, and those fabulous views !! 10/10

Wow and perfect. Knoll Tower Exceeded our expectations; a fabulous mini castle in an idyllic, peaceful location with just sheep and deer as neighbours. This historic property oozed history and character, combined with first class luxury. We had the best 4 nights stay, loving every minute of this unique little gem which is surrounded by magificent grounds designed by Capability Brown. An added bonus was the Granary within the grounds, providing breakfast, lunch and dinner. We were greeted every morning by the wonderful staff and the food was delicious. During our stay we visited the nearby RAF museum, Ironbridge village and the Ironbridge Victorian museum, David Austin Roses and Boscabel House. We had such a fabulous mini break at Knoll Tower, celebrating my husbandâs birthday. We will definitely return â¤ï¸
