What our customers say about their holidays
Michael - Verified booking
Only downside it was a bit of a pain transporting the luggage down to the lodge.
As it was down a gravel path of about a 100 meters. Luckily we had taken a collapsible trolley truck but still has to make 3 trips on arrival and departure. The complex has electric golf type trollies outside reception but presumably for booking made through Whitesand bay holiday park. Ours was privitaley owned but we were offered there luggage trolleys. The view from the Lodge patio deck was amazing looking over Plymouth sound and rolling hills. The only sounds we could hear came from sheep on the hillside, birds and the wind. It was quite breezy for all of our 5 night stay. But welcoming in the hot sunshine. We could not fault the lodge as it had everything one needed for a home away holiday. The owner catered for a pleasant stay with milk tea and coffee in the fridge and cupboards. The park facilities were good with a pub and restaurant. Although as it was early session the pub and restaurant closed at 20:30 during the week. We enjoyed a plentiful lovely Sunday lunch on the patio outside the restaurant. There was a pool opposite but didn't use on this occasion. There wasn't a shop on the park but don't know if there is one in high season. The nearest shop was a few miles away in Millbrook down narrow precarious country lanes. The nearest major supermarket was Sainsbury's in Torpoint about a 20 minute drive also down narrow lanes until you reached wider B roads. I did a major shop there the day after our arrival. So we had enough supplies for a few days. After a day out to Perrenporth we topped up at Tesco Extra in nearby Plymouth. We came back to Cornwall on the Torpoint ferry, not to be missed. There are some wonderful places to visit nearby like Cawsand and Kingsand villages next to each other with charming streets houses an little sandy bays. A visit to Mount Edgcumbe House and gardens is highly recommended. A walk down through the park takes you down to the shores of Plymouth Sound where you can watch the boats and ships sail in and out. Pont Avon departed to Santander while I was there. There's also a foot ferry from there across to Plymouth. An enchanting pub to the left of the lower entrance gates. I can't wait to go back to the lodge to explore beautiful Cornwall Futher!

The lodge itself was brilliant!
The furniture and fittings were great and the bathroom was definitely the centrepiece!! We did have a few minor issues/ things that could be improved however. Firstly, we arrived to the lodge during the evening when it was dark and there isnât really much towards lighting and indication to which lodge is which. The plaque saying MR2 wasnât in a great place to be able to see when you are in the car in the dark. Maybe place lodge names on a small wooden post next to the allocated parking space? We also had a small issue the the spar bath in the bathroom as it kept turning itself on every 20 - 30 mins so I had to turn it off at the fuse box when we werenât using it. The kitchen was a tad lacking in utensils, such as oven trays. There was only flat oven trays and round glass dishes. Could do with some deeper oven trays for example. Knives can all do with a sharpen and maybe a pint glass or two? Considering how there isnât a great deal locally we found ourselves cooking most nights and not going out. We are people that like to cook and Im sure that will be a case for a lot of people staying there. So improving utensils in the kitchen definitely wouldnât go a miss! And finally, the bed was comfortable. However it was advertised and a âking sizeâ but it was 2 single bed mattresses put together. Not even a thick mattress topper so we have this big crack in the bed down the middle. On my side of the bed I felt like the centre of the bed was a little higher than the outside of the bed (almost like sleeping on a slight upslope). Im guessing itâs because of the two single mattresses. All this aside⦠it was a brilliant lodge and we had a great holiday! It definitely made the holiday and didnât break it! Would recommend to others! And the price was very reasonable! Thankyou for a great holiday!

The park itself was peaceful well kept and the staff were pleasant and welcoming.
However, the property we stayed in was a great disappointment. There was mould on the bathroom walls and the shower screen was broken as well as the plug, so we were unable to have a shower without soaking the floor. The condition and state of the kitchen was far from what was advertised with wood rot or mould on the worktops, particularly around the sink where years of being soaked had gone untreated. The bed was dated and very uncomfortable, providing little support, to the point where the sofa was a preferred option for one of us. It was on the second day that we discovered the most disturbing issue the lodge suffered. When opening the dishwasher door the kick-board came away from the cupboards to reveal 4 or more rat traps and trays of poison. The floor was covered with old and fresh mouse and rat droppings. It was disgusting and very unhygienic. The fact the owners were clearly aware of a problem but were happy for customers to live and eat amongst this health hazard was concerning, especially when paying a premium for the privilege. This problem should have been addressed and not covered up at the potential cost of customers health. I believe this property is for sale which might explain the reluctance to properly maintain, but it is unforgivable to put profit above the customers well being. This thoroughly spoilt our holiday. We have of course taken photos if required on request.

The lodge itself is lovely, the gardens, car park and hot tub are all totally great.
And the amenities in the kitchen and bathroom are really great. The location is scenic and close to some amazing places that we had some great experiences at. Weâd absolutely return to Cornwall. But⦠We found issues with a few things in the lodge, a) the bathrooms could have been cleaner. b) the amount of toilet rolls left was inadequate and no nespresso pods for a machine in the kitchen. If you didnât want to leave and go find a Morrisons straight away youâd struggle after the first night. However we could overlook all this and recommend until the cows come home, if the next section hadnât happened. We had some strange experiences. Noises at night on the decking (3am!! Every night) lights that didnât actually work (bedside) turning on by themselves, drawers opening, TV lights flashing, things going missing, and a child saying âhelloââ¦it was all very strange. And not something weâve experienced before! The area used to be a theme park and weâre not sure if something sinister has happened⦠We truly think that the lodge should be cleansed?

Lodge 23 at whitsand Bay Fort, immaculately presented with fantastic views, There are some nice little touches such as milk, tea, coffee and sugar on arrival.
We took our dog and relieved that the veranda is totally enclosed and gated at each end so he could 'potterâ around safely. Very Impressed with amount of storage in all areas of the property, (small thing -could do with more clothes hangers) Bedrooms felt warm at night, even though the outside temperature was 14° so a fan would be welcome particularly on the very warm summer nights. Contact with Lodge owner has been great, they emailed us a map of the site and have answered any questions we had swiftly. The site facilities are very good, though the swimming pool was closed for refurbishment on our visit. Restaurant is very good, with reasonably priced food, all the staff were very friendly. The site cafe great for a good cooked breakfast. Car parking, you get one allocated space, any additional car is charged at £10 a day, which I felt was excessive, you can park free on the road but space looked limited. I would certainly recommend Lodge 23 as a lovely place to stay, weâll certainly stay there again.
